Tom's Naval Shipyard

Out of curiosity Tom and by no means does it have to be done anytime soon but are there any French destroyer, light cruiser, and heavy cruisers models that you have or plan to do as well?
 
Well, the French ships I know that are already done are:
BB:
Bretagne class, Richelieu class, Dunkerque class
Leaves:
Courbet

Joffre and Bearn Carriers are done

CA:
Can't remember if any are completed already, same with most below. Duquesne class, Suffren class, Algérie
CL:
Duguay-Trouin, Jeanne d'Arc S, Émile Bertin S, La Galissonnière
Large DD:
Chacal, Guépard, Aigle, Vauquelin, Fantasque, Mogador
DD:
Bourrasque, Adroit, Hardi
Subs:
Sirène, Circé, Minerve, Aurore, Surcouf (civ 4 model)


Looks like a bunch of reskinned ships in this Civ 4 mod that aren't in DB, including some French, but I believe they are pre-WW2.

Have French submarine Gymnote, French prot cruiser Lavoisier.

Would have to find models for them somewhere. I didn't see anything on G-Warehouse. So I'll just have to make due until a model can be located. Probably do Surcouf soon.
 
Ok thanks Tom for answering my question so quickly! I think your right about the no CA or CL's being done yet.

Also, Brilliant work on the Light cruisers! Using them already, they look good in game.

There is no French CA existing yet for WW II.
 
And I've got a feeling that there might be at least one more IJN CA... great work, Tom.

There is Maya, a Takao class CA. I don't think there is a significant difference with Maya compared to other Takao class CAs (at civ scale)? I will be redo'ing Takao class anyways. I have to redo them from scratch, so it takes longer than I thought. Too many little things to remember modifying the existing scene.

There is Mogami CA (before the seaplane version), that I will be doing as well.

I think that's it, right? :lol:

@Mardok: I don't have a model of Myoko Class (I dont' think). If it's close in resembelence to another ship that I do have, I might be able to modify that ship to make it.

Hey Tom,

The Myoko Class cruiser is very similar to the Takao class cruiser the only major differences I have spotted is changes to the bridge and aft the superstructure. Included pics so you can draw your own conclusion.

Cheers =) another CL having to face Wyrmshadow's counterparts. The modifications are subtile yet make a nice different ship. Mh.. but why modify the Kuma model?... wasn't there a Tenryu model on the Usio no Ibuki site? Its a shame when these cool things don't convert.

ps. not sure there was a Bretagne class made for Civ3 this far, unless you meant someone made one for Civ4/5.
 
The Provence BB is a Bretagne class ship by wyrmshadow. Under the France section.

Good spot Delta, I can probably do that.

Winter: there was a Tenryu model on that site, I tried to convert it, but it didn't work. The convert.bat file that subsims provided only showed (while running it's script in DOS) a possible issue being that it could not find CFS2.MD2. Otherwise it goes through and seems to complete changing the MDL file format to BGL, which the Model Converter X is used to open in order to export to .3ds.

But Model Converter X runs into an error (finds no objects) and cannot import the BGL (or original MDL) file.

Seems Wyrmshadow is probably right, most all except for a very very few can probably be converted. Subsims forum members have said the same thing, that many will not convert over because of errors.

I'll try tracking down the CFS2.MD2 file, whatever that is, and see if it makes any difference.
 
Indeed the French Navy from pre-WWI is in need to be created.
So is the Russian if I dare say.

If Wolfshane got some pre-WWI French ships in his mod surely they would be great to transformed into Civ3 models. That´s if you can find the time.
