Hi all !

I think that 21,5" iMac is good...

But only those with 2,7 Ghz quad-core Core i5, but with Core i7 cadenced at 2,8 Ghz you can have for upgrading this model...

8 Go of RAM instead 4 Go is it help for Civ 5 ?

ATI RADEON HD6770M 512 Mo GDDR5 is it enough for Civ 5 ?

I think that iMac 21,5" with Core i7 2,8 Ghz QC + 8 Go of RAM at 1333 Mhz + ATI RADEON HD6770M with 512 Mo GDDR5 is enough to play Civ 5 nicely for not too expensive...

I think that this 21,5" iMac should be like the 27" Top-End iMac Mid-2010 in terms of power...

What do you think Civ Mac Users ?

"Civ 5, i'm loving it !"

I have a 21.5" iMac, bought in February, 4 GB RAM, 3.06 GHz i3 (dual core), and ATI 5xxx graphics runs Civ 5 fine, so if the newer ones are more powerful, you're all set.

Not to mention my April 2009 Nehalem (i7 Xeon) Mac Pro with 6 GB RAM, and ATI 4870 GPU. It also runs like a champ, and it's 2 years old.

Just stay the heck away from anything with Nvidia graphics, and be leery of the Intel ones.

I just bought a 21.5 with the i5 and the 6770. I played a bit last night. It's still a bit choppy when moving across the map. I wasn't nearly as happy as I hoped I'd be. I upgraded from a 3.06 dual core with 8800GS. It claims (according to xBench) to be 3 times faster graphically... and about twice as fast in processing speed overall.

I think that the port is just that bad.

I mean, it's better... don't get me wrong, but it still doesn't play as well as it did in Bootcamp.

Oh, and can I play games I save in the cloud from the PC side on the Mac? Or are they different versions?

1) An humble question for Zaimejs : Core i5 2,5 Ghz or Core i7 2,7 Ghz did you taken ?

2) Question A : but what are the difference between 6770 from "now" and 4850 from "early 2009" ?

3) Question B : 8 Go of RAM is it better for Civ 5 than 4 Go of RAM ?

4) Question EXTRA : will be able to play Huge Earth script at 2000 AD with 36 state-entities ? Like by example 22 Civs + 14 city-states ?

Can Core i7 2,8 Ghz + 8 Go of RAM + standard ATI HD6770M 512Mo run it ?

I have a question : on your Mac Pro, you play Civ 5 ?

You play currently with what size of map ?

How much Civs and City-states at once ?

Can you play Civ 5 with the default biggest size of map, Huge Size ?

Can you finish Huge Size Map games ?

Thanks ?

Sorry, i will be more cautious at future before writing :goodjob:

I would certainly hope so. I am running at 1920 max everything on a mid-2009 model iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo and ATI HD 4-something card and getting really good performance. Doing Standard or Large maps. Only issue would be some pixelation of tiles when rapidly moving through the map.

To fmlizard2 :

Ok, i will wait and see...

I'm toying with downgrading resolution screen, from 1920 x 1200 to 1600 x 1000

It seems to be more regular in loading rate and more speed too...

I set all the video parameter to "middle", it seems to accelerate graphics loading...

At the moment, same iMac than you, model early 2009...

How do you manage to play Large ? Standard it's difficult after year 1500... Small after 1800...

I believe that the processor was the limiting factor...

I can play huge maps, max civs, max city-states, and it just keeps moving. Quad-core Xeon processor just eats that stuff up.

Actually does that better than the new iMac with the dual-core i3.

I do find that it makes a big difference if I have rebooted recently. After a fresh restart my map load times are about 1/3 of what they are without a reboot in the last couple days and in-game rendering and turn times are sharply reduced. It can get really loagy after a few days, especially if those days had lots of CiV play. Maybe some memory issues with the game?

Strangely, Civ seems to be just about the only program on my Mac that has a wide performance difference relative to how recently I rebooted. With Mac stability I was going sometimes well over a month between restarts before I got into CiV.

I reboot time on time, too...

In another thread, someone pointed out that the GeForce 8800 GS that I had wasn't really supported on Snow Leopard. The game was so slow that it was unplayable. I'm not sure how anyone who has that set up could get smooth scrolling on large maps... as soon as the game became at all complex, it was so choppy that I was a bit seasick.

The new iMac is the i5 2.7 GHZ quad core with the Radeon 6770. It is much, much better than my Core 2 Duo 3.06 iMac. Everything is better, but finally Civ V is playable. I liked it so much that I bought the Spain upgrade and finished my first game!

I lost, but oh well.

I'm near to finish my first game with a Small Earth at Quick speed with mod Buildings Made Fun from Moriboe, mod fully compatible with Mac version of Civ 5...

I'm happy for you, Zaimejs, i'm reassured now...

My new Mac will be nice for Civ 5...

I will be happy to finish Marathon Huge Earth with 36 politic entities into 2-3 jours with 4-8 h of play by day...

All my questions have been answered now, Civ 5 will be happy on the new Mac...
