Game Tracking Thread

I took a day at the beach (a local water park actually) and then caught a raging obsession with Stone Soup, and have not looked at CFC since Wednesday. Figures the excitement hits at the same time as the staycation.

The reason I pointed a browser here just now was to report that we took a power hit from a thunderstorm and the computer powered itself off. I'm leaving it off till the storm passes, and typing this on the laptop. After I bring it back up I'll see what saves are available.

So I assume I would be allowed to log in and offer peace treaty?

Just FYI for everyone that I'm still not able to play turns for another couple days.

I'd be able to play on. Although I might miss a turn or two from time to time...

Wow... i go away for a few weeks and look what happens!

Honestly, I think this game has probably run it's course at this point.
I really hope not. We patiently sat out a losing hand for nigh on a year to keep the game workable. (And of course because we enjoyed our community -- monarchy was a successful experiment in the most important regard! :) )

Everyone used the lessons learned from the previous game and rushed to form a 4 v 2 alliance. The result- a boring predictable game where diplomacy was actually hindered. So now we find ourselves with an essentially broken game that most everyone has left.

O well, if we're doing "lessons learned", my two penneth is it didn't help that when I (and I think a few others) tried to raise exactly this problem more than a year ago, we (well me at least) were accused of trying to cheat and threatening to quit (neither of which were true -- and ironically the person who accused me himself threatened to quit if he didn't get his way in another matter). I was concerned that the way it was going, Mavericks might dwindle to no players (they didn't have Merlot's unique reason for sticking together, of trying out monarchy and political intrigue). And they did. I was concerned after 4v2 had expired, it'd go 3v1 and kick off much more bitterly because so much more time would have been invested. And it did. It has been a rather sad 'I told you so' moment to watch it unfold roughly as I expected in very slow motion indeed. So far as I'm concerned, the least you can all do after all that is bloomin' well play it through like we did. ;)

Next game though, as I say:
- banning alliances of a majority of players would be a darn good idea -- otherwise it turns from Civ into a very slow version of Survivor, voting one or two teams off at a time, rather than playing them off!

Since you are talking to me (or at least about me;)) and it seems like you are still sore about this thing that happened a year ago, let me first in the hope of finally putting it to rest :deadhorse: apologize for two things to whb.

First, I personally apologize for implying that I would quit if the game wasn't reloaded for my child-caused misclick. In reality I probably would not have quit, but it seemed important enough at the time to push hard for the reload. I felt responsible to my team to get us a reload. So I apologize to whb and everyone else for that.

Second, I apologize to whb for accusing him of trying to use the UN to alert Mavs to the existence of the 4-way alliance, before Merlot had actually met Mavs in-game. At the time our team was investing a lot of effort into keeping M &M apart, so seeing that comment on the UN was frustrating. DaveMCW explained later that the whole thing was just a misunderstanding and I accepted that but I don't remember whether I actually apologized to whb for arguing/accusing him. And I'm not looking through all my PM history or the threads to check because that's not the point. The point is, I apologize.

Now, since you obviously have some renewed interest in the game, can I please suggest to whb that you join Sirius or Q as they can both use some more active players. That way your energy for commenting in the UN can also go towards keeping the game viable:D

I think your ideas for next game are good, and I would take it further. Next game there should only be TWO teams. At least only 2 player controlled ones. Maybe include some deity AIs to keep trading and diplomacy victory options open as well as give competition for wonders. That way we cut to the chase. The game inevitably ends up with two teams/alliances anyway, why not just start with two teams. That way there are no hopeless imbalances.

Not "renewed" in that I never left...

, can I please suggest to whb that you join Sirius or Q as they can both use some more active players. That way your energy for commenting in the UN can also go towards keeping the game viable:D
I haven't joined another team yet for two reasons:
1. I can't be a turnplayer -- my availability is too sporadic (most days I can't do, and I can't give warning which ones in advance).
2. I really don't know the first thing about them -- for the last six months or so pretty much the only interaction we had with other teams was seeing a few pointy sticks coming our way!

If there's a team needing another forum member joining in the conversation, though, happy to. (Probably shouldn't to impose uninvited though.)

So Sirius is ready to continue
I'd be able to play on. Although I might miss a turn or two from time to time...
So CDZ is ready to continue
Just FYI for everyone that I'm still not able to play turns for another couple days.
So Quatronia is willing to continue with the sub playing for them a couple more days, which is like 1 turn
Are we voting on whether to continue or quit/lose then?

OK then;) AMAZON confirms, we are eager to continue.
and AMAZON is ready.

So can we please unpause now?:D

Power outage, reloaded from the recovery save from before my pause.

Clock running, 17 hours -- and that recovery save is safe in case a longer pause is needed to round up the turnplayers.

Unpaused the game, played Q's turn, and then repaused the game. :)

Caledorn- how would you like to take over the turns for Q permanently? I don't think I will be able to come back to the game at this point.

So long as Caledorn is playing for a Quat VC, I know one they could achieve already.
