RR15 - Mills for D. Quixote

Nice job, Rolo! Now to 16.....

RE: Pacifism with so many units

Could go back to slavery+theocracy before GA ends, go nuts whipping cities down.

I should have made that a command, not a suggestion :(

Anyways, I'd been out of town for a week, good to see this was wrapped up with alacrity :goodjob: Mostly agree with RR's summary of why this was so easy, one addition - I think it showed just how meager non-resource tile improvements are in the early game. Our early cities (working one or two specials + forest tiles with some whipping) were not much weaker than normal early game cities (working one or two specials + a couple cottages or mines). We could also save some resources on fewer workers. There is a benefit to having cottages in a large city - but that early in the game you can't work more than a couple non-resource tiles per city anyways due to happy cap. So the lack of improvements barely mattered to the HBR rush.

And yes, I was dead wrong about this (see post #45) in the planning stages. Cool that I'm still learning things after playing this game off and on for years :)

I would be interested in RR16. To me the all-gold idea sounds more interesting than the first strikes idea - although potentially really tough if it's really "all gold" without much use of scientist or spy specialists. Seems like you'd have to get multiple AI's to Friendly to avoid getting stopped by WFYABTA.

I have to agree, timmy. If we are going to be truthful, most of the times people just don't work non-resource tiles in early game anyway, so our handicap would only start to show if we took our sweet time to get MC and machinery. A thing that we didn't done :D And anyway, after getting getting Guilds and CoL, workshops are pretty decent and most likely better than hamlets ( just not to say more ), while watermills and windmills fill out the coin gap quite nicely...so in the end I wonder if we had a real handicap in hands or just highlighted how to use early workshops effectively :D

Anyway, I'll take a rerun on Rusten SG and most likely will start RR16 in the weekend ( no promises , though ). BTW, we already have 7 people asking for spots between the RR15 team and lurkers of RR 15. 7 people is too much for a roster alone ... if we get another player or two , maybe I'll run a RB-like split team SG ( 2 teams, same map , no peeking on the other team game allowed ). We don't have one of those in some time :D

I would maybe be interested in doing the "split variant" you mention... should be fun to see after the game what the other team did.

Wait, were you counting me among that list of "interested people"?

Great game guys. Well played. It almost looked to easy :)

I wanna be on rolo's team! Just like everybody else. :p

Rusten did his SG on immortal, but I'd say emperor would be an appropiate level. With teams it'll feel like a mini-sgotm. :)

IO, as you didn't said otherwise before, I was counting with you ;)

Thrar, good to see you again here. I already booked you ... this means again 7 people if IO does not want to play :/

Killroyan, in a certain aspect it was ;) But again, as I said, it was easy because we recognized the situation we were early and acted accordingly. Most of high level players don't say this ( mainly because they assume that as acquired knowledge by everyone ), but one of the crucial qualities for winning high levels is to recognize as early as possible the situation you are in. There was a thread some years ago where it was discussed if there were unwinnable starts ( that is, games that you couldn't win no matter what you did ) and ,after running some examples, the conclusion that most of the people got was that, if you know early enough the situation you are, all of the games are winnable barring some event based mess . In here we were in a classic bad start, but we recognized it soon, took the adequate measures and turned the thing around.

Nocho, well, if we go teams ( I would like atleast 8 players for that ), I promise to use random.org to assign them barring the other team leader, that I would probably ask LK to be ( given his far longer than mine experience hosting SGs ;) )

Well I guess I'd be interested. But you'd have to remember as I've already proven, I'm prone to doing incredibly stupid things that could lose you the game.

The second we realized how boxed we were, and made the decision to smack China it was all but over.
This was one of my biggest blow outs in a LONG time!

Ok, let me see ... we have:

Moi meme :D
nocho
lymond
LKendter
IdiotsOpposite
timmy827
Thar
Immy
astre
vranasm
vanatteveldt

That makes nine people, more than enough. I'll use Gilga, that seems the more balanced leader for this ( decent traits, good and early UU and UB ). Barring some unexpected delay , I'll start the game tomorrow. Will contact everyone via PM about in what team you got , btw :D

I think mr or mrs vanatteveldt also expressed interest, so that would be 2 teams of 5.

Edit: Ah, and vranasm too!

I would be very much interested by I am also leaving for Scotland May 1 - 12, so I guess that would make things difficult :-( If I can be added to a team at the end of the roster and would not be needed until the 12th it would be fine, but I guess I can also wait for RR17 :)

Ok, just drew lucks on the teams using random.org:
Spoiler :

Using post #215 list this means that the teams are:

Team A

r_rolo1
nocho
IdiotsOpposite
Thar
Immy
astre

Team B

lymond
LKendter
timmy827
vranasm
vanatteveldt

I would ask someone on team B to be the team leader, just to have someone that takes the executive decisions and keeps the game going ... I would like to be LK doing that, given his extensive experience in that, but as he is with RL hands full ... ;)

BTW I'm already preparing to post the teams threads. Keep tuned .
