The Spirit of Man - Part 2: Brave New World! Sign up thread

History: Soon, I promise

That.

And Sonereal you need a flag too.

To quote from the old thread:
Nation Name: Nothing silly please.
Capital: Doesn't require too much explanation.
Flag: Because I'm paying tribute to TK's lovely games by copying his representation of cores.
Government: Please bear in mind that it is the turn of the century.
History: Bear in mind details from the previous game, I don't want to have to rely too much on it so that we don't discourage other players. But really anything goes and the more the better.
Social and Economic Policies: These help us get a picture of the nation, how its run and all that.
Internal Politics: Tell us about the factions that operate in your nation, the conflicts and the dissent. No one is going to be fine and dandy, so tell us who in your nation is happy and who isn't tell us who's rich and who's poor, who wants independence and who want to blow up parliament.
Traits: What defines your nation? Is it innovative and progressive or does it rule with an Iron Fist, is it renown for its cavalry or maybe a great naval heritage, a people of Artists or a people of workers? I will use this later to assign a nation specific bonus. To give you another idea check out the old thread and see what we had as traits there - I promise nothing will be quite as OP as AA and Tyo's powers were.

I figured what was good enough for the original would be good enough for this. :(

Well maybe it was back then, but this is now and I'm expecting a quality IOT. Which means everyone has to post their posts in full, no WIP sign ups.

What am I missing?

Kingdom of Two Sicilies

PonticFlag.png

Capital: Naples

Government: Constitutional Monarchy

History: After the end of the invasion of the Martians, Italian Nationalists revolted and took power in South Italy. King George I, heir to the throne of the two Sicilies, was invited to come to rule the nation. King George accepted and he also accepted the constitution created by the Rebels. After a few years, the Sicilians decided to create a colonial empire. So they invaded Greece and made it a colony of Sicily.

Social and Economic Policies: Social Policy is liberal and economic is Free Market.

Internal Politics:

The King is the head of state and has the right to dissolve the Parliament (the Senate), declare war and peace and lead the armed forces. The Senate is elected every 4 years by all male citizens of the Kingdom who are 30 years old or older. The Senator who can secure the support of the majority of the Senate, is appointed by the King to become Consul, head of Government. That's why most times the Consul is the leader of the Party that has the majority in the Senate. The Consul heads the Consular Council and appoints Hyporgous, ministers.

The Parties are:

Liberal Party: The ruling party. It supports peaceful relations with other states and liberal social policies.

Imperial Party: It wants to unify Italy and create a Kingdom of Italy. It supports militarism.

Communist Party: Wants to create a Communist Paradise for the Workers.

Traits:
1. Iron Discipline. No man, woman or children ever surrenders to an enemy.
2. The Sicilians are famous for their cavalry.

Just a note, I physically cannot do a flag ATM. Other than that, signup pending, I guess.

Nation Name: Birmingham Trade League
Capital: Birmingham
Flag: A green background with a red Union Jack.
Government: A republic much like OTL Britain, with a lower and upper house of Parliament, a Prime Minister, etc. However, a monarch is not included, and the House of Lords, appointed traditionally from the wealthy, has far more power than usual.
History: I don't know the history, exactly. If someone could help, that'd be awesome.
Social and Economic Policies: Based around trade, Birmingham has been one of the primary naval and economic powers of the world. Controlling much of the world's seas through colonial power and strategic alliances, the Trade League deals I'm just about everything. The rich are the primary power in the nation, and taxes are rarely raised, except in dire straits. The poor, naturally, are unhappy with the situation, but mostly kept in place by 'tradition'. Brutal colonial practices do little to help affairs abroad, but moderates have been making reforms, searching for equality in a fundamentally unequal and capitalist society. Communists are rallying the masses, but any mass demonstrations are crushed by the army. However, little can be done to remove the traction it is quickly gaining, and the deterrents put in place by the House of Lords are failing fast. Concessions of any kind are opposed by the conservative majority, and very few bills of any kind have made it past the Parliament in recent years, the Trade League is an outdated society failing miserably to keep up with the changing times, and an alteration on a basic level is needed to keep the country afloat.
Internal Politics: The Upper House, controlled by the wealthy merchants bloated by colonial wealth, is the overwhelming power on the political battlefield. The House of Commons has little impact on bills passed, having naught but the power to delay their appearance before the Lords, and a few others. The Lords themselves are mostly unified, save a few reformers, appointed through their extensive connections. This minority, though, is vocal, and growing more outspoken by the day. Some call for racial equality, others for increased economic mobility. These groups are gaining converts, but not quickly enough. However, things could change. All it takes is an economic collapse or a disastrous war, and the tables could turn on the conservatives. Moreover, the word on the streets is communism, fueled by new thinkers in political science. Championing equality for all and the power of the proletariat, its proponents have quickly found willing audiences in the oppressed workers. Strikes have been organized, but their quick forced dissolution by the army has kept them from spreading. No armed rebellion, or even a riot, has occurred, but it seems only a matter of time. For now, though, the rich maintain power as the poor suffer under their boots. How long this can continue, though, is up in the air. Only time shall tell.
Traits: A powerhouse built on trade, they maintain a massive navy and an extensive colonial network to further their interests. The nation is an old hand at commerce, and for most merchants, it runs in the family.

Claiming Poland. More will come later.

POLAND WILL INTO SPACE

Nation Name: People's Republic of Poland
Capital: Warsaw
Flag: Modern day Polish flag
Government: Socialist democracy
History: History from SoM1. Help here would be greatly appreciated
Social and Economic Policies: Based on 50/50 capitalism and socialism.
Internal Politics: The Major conflict in Poland is the always interesting religous conversion war between the Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthadox Christians. So far, the parlament has stayed neutral in the bickering of the two denominations, yet has been seen in the past leaning towards the East Orthadox Christians in some of their laws, thus making the Catholics in Poland extreamly upset and has showed signs of a mass exodus to neighbouring states in the past. Another major conflict is in Parlament: the Labor Party vs the Neo-Conservatives.
Traits: Progressive, always looking for the common interest of the Workers, Poland needs a huge army to protect its people

Nation Name: Germany [De Jure] Kingdom of East Germany [De Facto]
Capital: Berlin, Brandenburg

Government: Constitutional Monarchy
History: After the invasion, Germany Had lain in tatters for years. Once the aliens had finally succumb to the common cold, it took a long time for the nation to rebuild, and it to this day has not fully recovered to meet its former glory.

From the ashes of Berlin, the new Monarchy rose to prominence and eventually retook parts the area surrounding provincial Brandenburg and Prussia. Armed with the soul of old Germany, the nation rebuilt the German infrastructure and industry. Soon after, contact was made with a couple of the abroad German territories in the Netherlands and Spain; they had lightly rebuilt but were far from how reconstructed Germany proper had become.

However, Germany isn't actually unified just yet. While the heirs of the Empire remains the prominent force in Germany, two republican regimes reign in the Rhineland and in Bavaria. The struggle for unification is supplemented by the factions within Germany; while Solutionism hasn't taken a large hold in the population, Leftists have been gaining a lot of momentum ever since Germany was reformed. While the demons from above have been destroyed, Germany's struggle is far from over.
Social and Economic Policies:
  • Conservative: The German government is not secular, having a state religion of Protestantism. Gay marriage is illegal, and at present women and minorities are subtly discriminated against (however, direct confrontations aren't all that a rarity.)
  • Protectionist: High tariffs assure that German-made products are the most affordable on the market, however the powerful Conservatives are trying to get Germany to enact reforms to make the trade more free. Other political leanings have no opinion on the matter at present, but no reforms have yet to be enacted.
  • Capitalist: Germany's industry is run by private corporations. Most business leaders like where they are, so aren't too keen on pushing Solutionist policies on the German Empire; they practically rule Germany anyway with the high number of conservative businessmen.
Internal Politics:
There are three political powers within Germany:
  • Conservative party: This party is the dominant party... among the elite, anyways. Which basically means it runs Germany. It simply aims to maintain the status quo of German society, with view exceptions such as the want of trade reform.
  • Liberal Party: This party is, for the moment, widely popular with the working and poor class. However, unfair representation makes just about all the party's promises empty. Not that it's their fault. Only about 1.3% of the upper class support this party. It simply lacks the monetary funding to have them compete with the Conservative party. As a result, many of this party are starting to turn to the more extreme, underground movement.
  • The Workers of the Iron Cross: This group is not a political party but is picking up enough momentum to be considered important in national politics. The movement pretty much totally consists of former liberals who are tired of unfair representation, thus pushing them even further left in support of proletariat revolution. The exact number of its supporters are unknown(Although it is anticipated to be growing rapidly), but their demands are very well clear. They want the elite to step down as leaders of Germany so that the revolution they seek may be peaceful. However, people say that if the elite does not at least negotiate in some manner, violence may be inevitable.
Traits:
  • Children of the Industrial Empire: Germany was the home of the German Empire of the previous era, a nation well-known for its industrial prowess. The Kingdom of East Germany sees itself as inheritors of the great German industrial machine.
  • Internal Turmoil: The internal politics of Germany are in conflict as the rift between the rich and poor grows. The poor call for revolution; the rich demand a status quo. It's beginning to look like a civil war is brewing.
  • Three Hurrahs for Germany: While the people are split ideologically, most people residing on German lands identify themselves as patriots and/or nationalists. Most of the people at least share this in common, rich and poor.
