Evening One

As night approached, and the Herculina drew into San Remo harbour, a motorboat came up alongside. After being lifted awkwardly onto the deck by some crewmen, the pink-clad form of Lady Weston-Hogues turned her sparkling gaze upon her guests.

‘It’s so wonderful to see you here, and I’m so sorry for the delay in my arrival. It is most embarrassing to arrive late to one’s own gathering, but I trust that Captain McGinty has seen to all your needs in my absence. Have you chosen your rooms? Oh, wonderful. We’re going to have such fun.’

The smile on Lady Weston-Hogues’ face could crack concrete.

‘I’ve arranged for you all to play a little game. When you go to your cabins tonight, each of you will find a message explaining your part in proceedings. Some of you will also receive items that give you special roles. Those with roles need only inform me of how they choose to use their powers, and I will reveal the results in the morning, when we meet back here on deck for breakfast cocktails and wild finger-pointing.’

'Now, my friends, I'm afraid that the day's exertions leave me quite exhausted, and I must retire. Good night, and good luck.'

Night has fallen.

No posting in the thread until Morning.

No private communication until instructed.

Please await role details by PM.

Everyone should now have received a message from Lady Weston-Hogues (if not, let me know asap).

Private communication is now permitted, within the restrictions set out in Lady W-H's message.

This will be a long night, to allow time for me to respond to questions.

Morning Two

As the Herculina glided past the picturesque city of Imperia, the morning sunshine laying a golden path across the waves ahead of her, Captain McGinty and his crew busied themselves on deck preparing a long buffet table, piled high with all manner of exotic fruits, soft breads, and wholesome cereals. Around the table stood several waiters, armed with pots of of tea and coffee, as well as notepads to jot down orders for hot or specially prepared breakfast items.

After waiting until her guests had begun to avail themselves of the delights on offer, Lady Weston-Hogues paused from eating her soft-boiled egg (served with two-thirds of a slice of burned toast, cut into small triangles), and gently tapped her fork against her cocktail glass to gather everybody's attention.

'Good morning, cherished friends. I trust that each of you had a pleasant night's sleep, and has arisen full of vim and vigour... But, oh, what's this?'

Looking theatrically around at each of her guests, the aging aristocrat had a wicked sparkle in her eye. 'Oh dear. It seems that one of our number has not emerged from his cabin this morning. Such a dashing young chap, that Explorer. Whatever can have happened to him?'

At this moment, in obviously scripted fashion, Captain McGinty came out from below deck wearing his best impression of a man bringing grim news.

'I have grim news, my Lady' he said, unconvincingly. 'It seems that The Explorer has been...' The pause for effect went on far too long. 'Murdered! By shooting!'

'Oh gasp' responded Lady Weston-Hogues. 'How perfectly nasty. And to think that the perpetrator must be here amongst us.' Turning to her guests, the sparkle in her eye growing yet more wicked, she lowered her voice to a stage whisper. 'There's only one thing for it. You must put your heads together and figure out who is responsible for this most heinous crime, so that the villain can be brought to justice. I'll give you until nightfall to tell me who it was, then we'll lock the culprit in the hold until we reach port.'

'In the meantime, of course, please continue to make the most of the refreshments, and enjoy what looks like being a quite beautiful Italian morning.'

Oh my, looks like knowing who discovered the source of the Nile was indeed a matter of life and death... How foolish of me to doubt it.

KingMorgan, I've often found that religion and government don't go well together.

Your thoughts?

I'm sorry I'm over an hour late! Oh, death among our passengers! How dreadfully boring!

*faints*

*wakes up* How can you be so uncouth in the presence of ladies, Zack?

The Duchess johnhughthom deserves our respect as a member of the ancient nobility.

This buttering up smacks of collusion and trusts, accordingly, I shall balance the scales against you, askthepizzaguy!

This murder was clearly carried out by someone who loves drama, someone like ... The judge pauses meaningfully before raising an accusatory finger at the end of a long arm.

The author, robbiecon!!!

How can you pass judgement on such an important matter so lightly?

This buttering up smacks of collusion and trusts, accordingly, I shall balance the scales against you, askthepizzaguy!

You know, being a judge is often an elected position. Sometimes it is wise to shake hands in politics, rather than spit in another fella's drink.

Just sayin. :goodjob:

Askthepizzaguy. When you suckle at the teat of big business, big business will squirt its milk all over your face.

Well, sir, my family history is full of salt of the earth farmers. That's not to say I'm a populist by any stretch of the imagination. All I'm sayin is that sometimes you've got to milk a cow for all she's worth just to stay ahead.

But enough metaphor and innuendo. Let's talk plainly. There are two things that matter in politics, money and votes.

Can I count on your support, or am I betting on the wrong horse?

I'm not saying my vote is for sale, good sir. But I'm sure you could influence me.

Do you understand what I'm drivin at? Of course you do. You don't become successful without bein able to read between the margins.

I think General Visorslash is quick to shoot first and ask questions later. A much more diplomatic approach is necessary if we are to find the perpetrator here. To that end, I am sure that Askthepizzaguy is certainly capable of the diplomatic nuances necessary.

Both the General and Judge Autolycus are quick to jump to conclusions and throw wild accusations around with little to no apparent basis for reason. A position that I would think both of these “esteemed” gentlemen should be more wary of.

Let's throw Takhisis into a cell and see what happens.

I'm not quite sure why Askthepizzaguy is getting support (if there even is a reason), but I'm reluctant to afford influence to someone this early in the game. Consider my vote a counterbalance.

Zack evidently believes that money is everything. He has no class, none at all. Rude fellow, how dare he treat a lady so.
