Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 120
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the 120th game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by date and score). We will issue medals to the top 3 winners (based on earliest date finished). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

File Upload System
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.

This game runs for a month and ends November 15th, 2015.

The save will be available for download on October 15th, 2015, midnight Central Standard time (UTC -6:00) in the US.

The Save can be found here.

If the start pick wasn't enough of a signal, please note this is a later era start. I recommend you play a few test games to see all of the starting era bonuses. Have fun!

Renaissance era start? This'll be fun. I have a question though, is EUI allowed during these? I just installed it and am looking forward to using it, but if it is banned I better move it out when I play this save. Looking forward to this one, after my loss in the last one thanks to having no military I cannot wait to practice up on some warfare. :c5razing:

EUI has no affect on game play, so yes, you may use it.

It may not have an affect on Gameplay, but it will have an affect on how much math I have to do.

How fast should we be expecting to tear through this one I wonder? I have never played a renaissance start before, and am looking forward to the bonuses. Gonna have to do some practice games if I can.

the save game is not available for me

It looks like we'll be facing Denmark in this one. After all, the only time we see any of the DLC civs as a requirement is when they're in the game, usually when we're playing as that civ. However, since we aren't playing as Denmark this time, they must be one of the AIs. So don't forget to manually add them as an AI during your practice games.

Slower than an ancient start. There wont be a cheap missle troop. Everyone has 2 cities. I feel like settling on the coast is a must for the second city to quickly get cargo ships going back and forth. I guess ill have to do a couple of test games to see what the cities start with IIRC its a monument, granary, and library?

Interesting, I've never played an advanced era start so definitely going to try this one. Since it is Pangaea though, it kind of makes their UA useless.

I'd advise going Liberty and just mass Jannisaries as much as production allows

Agreed. This is a really exciting opportunity. There are so many map types yet I feel we seem to mostly play the same few types - especially domination games . Often navy play a small role.

Still super pumped for this which is great. Workers seem to be the biggest limitation. Only one. To get going need to steel a quick one and rush another.

What are policies like in an advanced start?

We get 4 policies immediately, and the best use of these looks to be Liberty opener to collective rule and then first one on the right. That gives us an extra settler and worker right out of the gate, and can immediately found three coastal cities to begin building the Janissary and Cannon conquest army. I am really looking forward to this one, there should be some fun surprises for us. Anyone got any better ideas than liberty?

I have all the DLC requirements installed, but I can't load the save because it still says I don't. Any ideas what I am missing?

Game Requirements: Denmark DLC, Wonders of the Ancient World DLC, Gods and Kings expansion, Brave New World Expansion.

I have all of these but still get the error message that says I don't have the required DLC. I just installed Denmark today, and it shows that I have it:

I have restarted twice, but still cannot load the save file.

That extra settler may not be that useful without a second lux in the cap. I can see splitting it between honor and liberty. The base for gunpowder is 60 turns so getting population up will be key, which is easier to do with less cities.

After selecting the save to load, If you click on "DLC" in the lower left of the screen it will give a pop-up listing all the DLCs required to load that save.

When I checked for this save it list all those listed in the OP plus the Explorer's Map Pack. So the OP left out the Explorer's Map Pack DLC requirement.

Well crap, looks like I'll be out of this one too. I don't think I have explorers either, I'm gonna try it anyway but I think it won't be happening.

My apologies about the Map Pack. I must have just blanked when unchecking the DLCs to make this one. :wallbash: The map isn't even a Map Pack map.

Let me go clean up this egg off my face real quick. Sorry, everyone.

Thanks for figuring out the issue Monthar and HR. So to make sure I understand - the Map Pack isn't actually required, but the save file was just accidentally saved that way? Can a corrected save file be readily prepared and replace the posted one, or is buying the Map Pack the only way to play this one? Thanks
