[GEM] Kaitzilla vs. The World

The RNGod truly hates you! You're not alone brother, we all feel the RNGod's wrath...

RIP Jesus, you had been a true hero!

Merry Christmas
I see that you are going Pottery, i just turned on my game aim a bit ahead beocuse iam in T297.
But doesnt matter i just realized that your plan with Mids was genius( thats why you are better palyer ;)), and iam feeling a bit guilty about this Pottery, becouse ...take a peek on specialist(Yield).
Offcourse improoved :food: tile yield is allso preety good reason.

Do you still think that Pottery was better choice here, to be honest iam not sure.
In other hand i was just allmoust sure that it will be preety hard to producing units, expanding, wihtout Pottery with this maintence. But maybe iam wrong you have your ways to deal with this kind of troubles.

Just asking what do you think about it, Potter vs Mansonry in this case.

And yea Deity ai in warrior spam mode  are just :crazyeye:. Good that he have only 1 city so he cant have like extra reinforcements.

Pottery vs. Masonry was a very challenging question to decide.
Pyramids even with stone takes a whopping 12 chops, so I'd need expanded borders to even get 12 forests and I don't have Mysticism yet.

So Great Wall and Pyramids would be AWESOME to get for this map and settings, but I'm missing all kinds of key ingredients.
1) Stone (and roads to connect it to chopping city)
2) Workers to dedicate to chopping
3) Mysticism to expand borders
4) A city up north
5) Military to protect such a city and workers
6) I'd be competing with 35 other civs to build the wonder first.

So, I took the safe choice and went Pottery 1st.
I have access to gold, silver, gems, ivory, and fur within settling/conquest range and all I have to do is tech Hunting to unlock 2 of those.
That means happiness isn't as big of a problem as I feared.

The cottages and cheap granaries will have a more positive impact in the short term.

If I can, I'd love to tech Mysticism and Masonry next to pop borders and try to get Pyramids or The Great Wall, but it is a long shot since it takes freaking forever to tech on this mod.

The RNGod truly hates you! You're not alone brother, we all feel the RNGod's wrath...

RIP Jesus, you had been a true hero!

:hatsoff:

Maybe one of your neighbors will be that kind, and bulid it for you, and they dont call themselfs Roman Empire .
No access to stone made things a bit easier.
And yea looking good with +5:) you can cottage/whip like crazy.

Turnset 12 (T125 to T131)

T125 - The barb who pillaged my Wheat retreated up to the north somewhere.
The Babur Warrior moved to the west of Tashkent forcing me to garrison with a Warrior and draw my Chariot a bit south to cover both dangers.

Pillaged Lahore's Sheep mine for 6:gold:
Spoiler :

T126 - All 5 of my Workers are now fixing the Wheat, so I'm guarding them with my Chariot.
Babur's Warrior moved west and is being pursued by my Shock Warrior.

Pillaged Lahore's other mine for 11:gold:
Hopefully that will slow the Warrior flood.

Lahore now has 7 Warriors. :twitch:
Going to move my Chariots 3 tiles away from Lahore and see if the AdvancedAI recognizes the city is in danger.
Maybe a Settler and 2 or 3 Warriors will move out for a new city spot. :dunno:
Spoiler :

T127 - Babur's Warrior west of Tashkent disappeared.
Hmm, will continue to pursue it with my Shock Warrior.

Lahore still has 7 Warriors, but it sent out an 8th to try and take back Delhi I think.
An easy 95.9% battle for me! :)

My finances have worsened dramatically due to the Chariot buildup.
I barely make more gold than I spend now.
Spoiler :

T128 - Babur sent another Warrior out to retake Delhi.
This time I used my Flanking I Chariot to win an 89% battle.
It will yield a very important promotion soon.

Founded my 6th city, a beachside resort named Kashgar.
Spoiler :

T129 - The Great Wall was built in a faraway land!
Grrr, I'll have to deal with Siberian barbs constantly now.

Lahore has 7 Warriors again and didn't send any out this turn.
Not sure how the AI is making them every turn still even after the pillaged mines.
Promoted my Flanking Chariot to Sentry to give it +1 vision.
This will be very important for scouting since everything can move so much more in this mod.

My expenses now precisely equal my income.
I'm perfectly happy as long as I don't go too negative since I can delete Chariots if needed.
Even better, I now have enough data to precisely calculate the handicap penalty! :D
Two turns ago, I had 18 unit cost and a 5 handicap penalty.
Now I have 20 unit cost and a 6 handicap penalty.
That calculates out to 6/20=0.3 or 30% cost increase.
Applying it to 18*0.3=5.4 rounds down to 5, which matches perfectly.
Therefore, all my units over the free amount cost 2.6:gold: each.
Compare to 1:gold: each on BTS Deity and 0.8:gold: each on BTS Emperor and you'll see the difficulty funding large armies this game. (for the human)
Spoiler :

T130 - Toyed with the idea of deleting my final Warrior to save gold now that I have lots of superior Chariots.
He was unable to find the roaming Babur Warrior out west.
I've decided to keep him and send him on a forced death march to the north to go kill as many barbs as possible before dying/disbanding.

Babur still has 7 Warriors in Lahore, but he's got another south of the city.
I easily killed it in a 96.8% battle.
The healing is almost complete and the reinforcements are almost there mmm.
Spoiler :

T131 - YES
Whatever overflow magic Babur is working has ended as there are still 7 Warriors and 1 of them left the city.
I now have 9 Chariots facing 6 Warriors in Lahore.
Time to end this.
Spoiler :

**Edit**
Win 88.3%
Win 78.7%
Loss 76.94%
Win 76.94%
Win 76.94%
Win 79.7%
Win 90.29%

Lahore captured with 5 population and 133:gold:.
Also captured 3 Workers to go with the one I stole back on T118.
The Mughal civilization has been destroyed.
Spoiler :

War Totals:
Lost 2 Chariots
Killed 13 Warriors
Captured 2 Cities and gained 6 population
Captured 4 Workers
Angered 8 civs with DOW for -1 relations permanently (includes Goujian whom I just met)

My Current 7-city empire on T131:
Spoiler :

What guards Varanasi, Asoka's closest city?
I don't have a hill to stand on or open borders or spies to go take a look directly.
Normally all I'd know is that I'm 73.8% more powerful than Asoka who is the #2 civ in the world by score.

The +1 vision Sentry Chariot reveals its ultimate purpose.
Spoiler :

Oh!
OHHHHHHH
The thirst for blood grows ";..;"

The gods are thirsty for blood!
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!!!
should you keep Varanasi,or should it be razed and resettled 1W? Silly ai settling on top of resources... Then again, there's so much food around anyway,it might not really matter

I almost have to attack now that I've looked things over. :w00t:

Unlike Babur, only 1 civ is Pleased with Asoka so there will be virtually no diplomatic penalties.
Score is mainly population, so Asoka certainly has more than 2 high pop cities.
I have 10 Chariots in Lahore that will be healed up and ready to rock in 3 turns. Asoka has 1 Warrior and a terrible power rating.
Unlike Babur, I've spotted no wandering Asoka Warriors that could give me pillage problems in the main empire.
Finally, I've got a supply of Chariot reinforcements building now and the horse tile is much better guarded.

Only Surya and Goujian to the east have Bronze Working.
Without Chariots or Axes or stronger units, AI civs can't plot war against me as far as I know.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=7190899&postcount=84
The AI's current strategy and financial situation is pretty important for the likelihood of DoWs. Especially the fact that the AI will not even start thinking about any wars when it is following the GetBetterUnitsStrategy might be responsible for the much earlier DoWs on Deity compared to the lower difficulties. The AI needs to be able to build at least 2 offensive units (UNITAIs ATTACK_CITY, COUNTER, RESERVE and PILLAGE) in its capital. Units of the types Axeman, Spearman, Chariot qualify here (basically everything better than Warriors and Archers), so once it manages to hook up the necessary strategic resources it will drop that strategy and start rolling the dice. With the 2 starting settlers and discounts for training more plus the fast teching I think Deities will reach that point 1000 yrs earlier.
It would be really interesting if the AdvancedAIMod surprised me with an Archer rush.

On normal speed or with less population in Varanasi, I'd be tempted to raze and resettle 1W ya.
On Deity/Marathon I think taking what I can get and conquering as fast as possible is my best bet.
I'm still shocked to see Warriors this close to 2000BC.

There will be blood! :ar15:

I'm wondering if the title, or at least the subtitle for your story should just be "There Will be Blood." It seems to be a common enough phrase...
:mischief:

When iam reading that Kaitzilla has thirst for blood, i got strange feeling that next screen shoot wll be from Pacific

Good going, Kaitzilla. Finish off Asoka, it would not surprise me if there is a holy city in that area.

:mischief:

The main question is, a lot of blood or a little? :mischief:

When iam reading that Kaitzilla has thirst for blood, i got strange feeling that next screen shoot wll be from Pacific

We'll find out soon :D

Good going, Kaitzilla. Finish off Asoka, it would not surprise me if there is a holy city in that area.

Asoka doesn't have a religion, but I'm certainly hoping he has a holy moley! city.

Turnset 13 (T132 to T136)

T132 - Met Qin Shi Huang of the Chinese Empire.
Qin also gave me -1 for attacking Babur. (Sheesh that's 9 civs now)
Also, does this mean there are 2 Chinas? (Qin + Goujiang of Baiyue Empire)

Scouting reveals that Asoka is only weakly guarding one of his cities with 1 Warrior.
Going to start moving pieces into place to conquer him. :)

The diplomacy screen indicates only Hammurabi will give -1 relations for the Asoka DOW.
Also, the :espionage: screen indicates power ratio weakness and moderate food/hammer levels.
Spoiler :

An anomaly has been discovered with the whip timer!
I should have 2 anger in my capital Invincible City from whipping Barracks and then Settler, but there is only 1.
Does this mod not give 30 turns of whip anger per whip? :hmm:
Spoiler :

T133 - Silver is now online in the main empire.
Will try to road down to the former Babur cities soon to spread the silver and gold goodness.

A pesky barb is once again threatening Taskent's Wheat.
I'll recall an Asoka reinforcement to deal with it.
Spoiler :

T134 - Barb Warrior retreated from Tashkent to kill an AI unit.
My Chariot got an easy 99% kill down by Asoka against a barb Warrior.

Asoka has a pastured Cow (Animal Husbandry):hmm:
I don't see any roads, so he probably isn't getting Chariots just yet.

The far north looks clear enough for my Workers to start making their way up to improve Kashgar.
Spoiler :

T135 - Barbarian Spear spotted!!!!!! :wow: :dubious: :run:
It is threatening Bactra and all I got to protect the city is a Chariot.
Spoiler :

HOW DO BARBS HAVE SPEARS ALREADY? (2150BC)
Only 2AI and I have Bronze Working out of all the AI I've met.
It seems too early.
I was expecting Barbarian Archers next.

My serious miscalculation is going to cost me Bactra I think.
Thought a Chariot would be enough protection.
Will hope the Spear pillages the gold mine before attacking the city and lets me reinforce Bactra with 2 more Chariots.

Will cancel the Asoka reinforcements.
The Asoka war will have to make do with only 9 Chariots.

The barb Warrior threatening Kashgar got killed by my Chariot with 99.1% odds.
The barb Warrior threatening Invincible City got killed by my Chariot with 97.8% odds.
Spoiler :

T136 - A 2nd barb Spear is now threatening Tashkent!
Will have to whip Invincible City and change Tashkent to produce that 14/15:hammers: Warrior its been saving for an emergency (or overflow gold whip).

I'm declaring a barbarian state of emergency.
I must now get Bronze at any cost and as fast as possible.
That means settling on top of some Bronze.
All northern Workers are now starting a road towards the northern wilderness and will need guarding.
Spoiler :

Lahore is starting a Settler for the Bronze.
I should be able to chop+whip it in 10 turns.
Perhaps 7 turns to walk up to the bronze.
Call it turn 153 before I can start building axes.

17 turns is a lot to be playing games with barb Spears(+100% vs. Chariots) using my Chariots and Warriors.
The barbs have a huge advantage against me now!

I literally can't afford to garrison all my cities with 2 Warriors (or even 1) thanks to the insane unit maintenance costs.
I'll have to play it sneaky.
All cities with 2 or more pop will put 1 turn into a Warrior so I can whip.
If possible, will try to get a Warrior nearly complete, then leave in queue and switch to something else.
That way I can produce a Warrior in 1 turn without whipping if a barb gets too close.

Turnset 14 (T136 to T137)

T136 (Continued) - Trying to reinforce Bactra, but I'm a tile short.
The 1 pop city will autoraze unless the Spear pillages the mine and gives me 1 more turn to reinforce.
Spoiler :

I've also discovered that whip anger only lasts 20 turns in this mod, not the usual 30!:eekdance:
That means Granaries are stronger and I can whip a lot more often! :whipped:
Proof in the screenshots:
Spoiler :
T135 Whip Anger

T135 Whip Anger Turns

T136 Whip Anger

T136 Whip Anger Turns

After carefully considering the barb and financial situation, I went ahead and DOW'd Asoka.
Shock Chariot attacked Asoka's Warrior and won the 90.4% fight.
Varanas captured with 4 population and yielded 148:gold:
Further advances quickly reveal 2 Warriors guarding the capital. :)
Spoiler :

T137 Bactra my gold city has been razed by barb Spear.
The defending Chariot lost with 3.2% chance to win.
Decided to roll the dice to try and finish off the half-hp barb Spear.
Lost with Chariot at 43.7% odds.
Won with Chariot at 70.5% odds.

Looking at the combat log, it appears that my city-defending Bactra Chariot got a weird bonus called "City Barbarian Defense +25%"
It must be a buff that GiantEarthMod put in to help deal with barbs.
I will have to make extensive use of it.
Spoiler :

My Tashkent Warrior died defending against the western barb Spear with 29.7% chance to win.
It was avenged when my Chariot won the following 55.3% fight.
Spoiler :

The Aztec Civilization has been destroyed.
OMG!
The barbs took out Deity Montezuma! :faint:
That's never happened before in the 8 years I've played.
I am now terrified of what might be brewing around me in central Asia.
16 turns till copper...

Pataliputra still defended with 2 Warriors.
Will attack with my 6 Chariots. :D

**Edit**
Win 75.31% odds
Win 75.31% odds
Pataliputra captured with 6 pop and yielding 136:gold:

Now that is a fat capital!
I should definitely move my capital to here later.
Flood plains/grassland Rice has 9:food:!!!

Asoka has 3 City Raider Warriors heading to Pataliputra (thanks Vision Chariot!), but there is no way they can recapture it from my 6 Chariots.
Spoiler :

Turnset 15 (T138 to T144)
T138 - My Tashkent Chariot lost against a pesky barb Warrior at 96.4%
Used the capital Chariot on the 100% revenge battle.

Finances are negative now.
Will have to rely on conquest gold and overflow whip gold to survive until I can get roads up and cottages built.
I'd rather just disband my army after the Asoka war, but barbs are making that impossible.

Switched :espionage: to my other closest neighbor, Cyrus of the Persian Empire.

The road to the Emergency Bronze is starting.
Once finished, I will name it Fury Road™ ^.^
The barbs will fight me for that city endlessly I predict.
Spoiler :

Asoka appears down to his last city Dhaka.
It will be defended by 4 Warriors against my 5 Chariots. :)
Spoiler :

T139 - Dhaka has 4 Warriors and 3 Workers.
Starting attack now.
**Edit**
Win 89.44%
Win 98.3%
Win 95.62%
Win 94.42%
Dhaka captured with 5 pop along with 3 Workers and 67:gold:!
The Indian Civilization has been destroyed.

I now have 11 Workers (that I really can't afford) and tons of delicious land down south.
Just have to survive the barbs now and get positive financially.

Sadly, Varanasi has come out of revolt and I do not get Ivory since I don't have the Hunting tech yet.
Spoiler :

War Totals:
Lost nothing
Killed 7 Warriors
Captured 3 Cities and gained 15 population
Captured 3 Workers
Angered 1 civ with DOW for -1 relations permanently (Hammurabi of Babylon)

T140 - My Vision Chariot to the east of India easily beat a barb Warrior at 99.9% odds.

T141 - Boring turn.
11 turns left before copper is connected.

T142 - Pottery discovered! :band:
Switching to 0% on Mysticism.

A barb Warrior is threatening Varanasi and a barb Spear is approaching Pataliputra.
I used the Varanasi Chariot to quickly kill the Warrior at 99% odds.
Will whip a Warrior in Varanasi and might whip a Warrior when Pataliputra comes out of resistance next turn to help with the Spear.

Sent my Chariot exploring east from the ruins of Bactra to try and reach Korea/Japan.
Yet another Spear!
Spoiler :

**Edit**
The Vision Chariot has revealed an urgent emergency! :run:
There is a 2nd barb Spear menacing India only 2 tiles from Dhaka.
It can kill the Shock Chariot guarding my 3 Workers and take them.
If I move 1 of my 2 injured Chariots 1N, it can attack the other Chariot and capture 5 pop Dhaka!
Spoiler :

Time for desperate measures.
I can fling both Chariots in front of it to block it.
Once the barb Spear kills one of my injured Chariots on T143, it can't attack a 2nd time. (neither units or cities)
I can move the remaining 2 Chariots and 3 Workers back into Dhaka.
Then when it kills another Dhaka Chariot on T144, I can cold whip a Warrior as Dhaka comes out of resistance T144.
Then Dhaka and the Workers should be safe as the injured barb Spear tries to kill back to back Warriors in Dhaka T145 and T146.

**Edit 2**
Moved the blocking Chariots out of Dhaka.

Met Hannibal of the Carthaginian Empire, my 18th civ.
Now that the Aztecs are dead, there are only 16 civs left for me to meet.
How did a north African workboat get through all those coastal empires to reach Bangladesh? :crazyeye:
Spoiler :

T143 - My Chariot east of the Bactra ruins got crushed by that Spear with 1.1% chance to win.
Sacrificial Chariot near Dhaka got crushed at 0.6% odds.

Chariot in Invincible City swatted the barb Warrior threatening my Wheat again with 99.9% odds.

Pataliputra the former Indian capital is now in serious trouble.
2 Spears are threatening it, and Pataliputra is only guarded by 2 Chariots. :cringe:
Cold whipping a Warrior in Pataliputra and moving the Warrior from Varanasi down to try and bait the western Spear.
Spoiler :

T144 - The Varanasi Warrior baited the Spear and lost at 4.4%
Immediately pounced on the injured Spear and killed it with my Shock Chariot at 99.9% odds.

The Warrior in Pataliputra was killed by the eastern barb Spear at 29.7% odds.
Will make another Warrior and hope it will go better now that the Spear is a little injured.

Chariot in Invincible City had to crush yet another Warrior at 99% odds to keep Wheat safe.
Spoiler :

Rebuild Bactra 1S horses in the Taklamakan Desert?

Bactra's main usefulness is working that gold mine and giving the empire +1:).
If I rebuild it 1S of horses in the Taklamakan Desert, I'd have to pop borders to get the gold which would take Mysticism and 30 turns at least.

When I rebuild Bactra, I'm going to put it back in the same spot and try to have 2 Warriors fortified in it.
A fortified hilltop Warrior in a city should have the same 4:strength: as a barbarian Spear.
(+25% barb city defense)
(+25% city defense)
(+25% fortify defense)
(+25% hilltop defense)

A chariot only gets the barb city defense bonus, so when it defends a city against a spear, it is 5:strength: versus 8:strength: and the chariot almost always loses.

Every barb Spear is a crisis for me.
Hopefully I can get bronze soon! :please:
