I play with all random and not only do I get all the american civs, but the other selections are also stuck. Map, Barb, always seems stuck on the last selection you had before you hit the random button. Select a small map and your usally the ONLY none american civ.
Random Civs aren't so random. A bug?

I am quite sure that it depends, on what civilization you chose. In the civ3 vanilla I has a faible for the Zulus and got annoyed at Persia. I definitley think, that similar culture groups are preferred, therefore you see the same enemies over and over again, when you always play as the same civ.

I've actually noticed in PTW you get the new civs more often then you get the old. I've noticed I get Scandinadians a lot more often, and rarely get the Greeks.

I also felt anything strange in these new "beta" patches. I usually choose my civ from Carthago, Ottoman, Persia or Greek. But I noticed that in all my games are coming with Maya, USA, Inca and Japan.
In PTW and C3C 1.02, when I choose any from my preferred civs, I always meet lots of europeans and asian civs (Germany, Rome, Babylon, England, China etc). But now, only american civs and Japan. It may be related to the fact of being a "beta patch".

You actually listed 4 different culture groups, not just European and Asian. Germany and England are from the European culture group. Rome is from the Mediteranean culture group. Babylon is Middle Eastern. China is Far Eastern.

In other words: before, no matter which civilization I choose, it always put civs from differents culture groups. Now, 90% are americans (Inca, Maya etc) or Japan.

Make sure you click on the random opponents button every time you start a new game...sometimes I've found that they are pre-selected to be the same ones as I had in the last game, even when I had chosen random for the last game.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one getting sick of the "random" civs always being American civs. I get especially sick of seeing Lincoln's big ugly mug, 9 or of 10 games I play! Although, he's not quite as annoying as the Aztecs, they just ask for it every game they're in. Oh, and I have culturely linked starting locations turned off.
In saying that, I tend to use many different of the civs so I don't get sick of any particular one. It is nothing but tedious when I'm always up against 4 or even 5 (all) of the American civs. I've been tracking this since C3C came out. I'm running 1.15 beta now, no difference yet.

Hey guys, listen to Robcheng. I remember that I noticed the same civs were coming up. It was because the opponents were preset on the setup screen and not set on random. My civ was set on random, but for some unknown reason the opponents were all preset. I clicked on all random button and it was solved. I guarantee that is your problem.

This might actually explain what happened to me. Unhappy with being put in the wrong "culture group", I used the "Quck Start" feature 3 times in a row and my immediate neighbours were all the same (American culture group). So maybe it was random the first time, then the quickstarts just changed the map but not the civs.
Enkidu Warrior's suggestion about seafaring civs fits my experience. In this last case and in other earlier ones where I played a seafaring civ I ended up on another continent from my "culture group".

I play with a random player civ and random opponents, and whenever I have CLSP on the American civs appear, every time. When CLSP is off I get a good mix of original and new civs. With CLSP, I usually draw a Civ from the Mediterranean group, though my neighbors turn out to be American Civs.
I remember having had that problem too in the first couple of games... But then out of a sudden it was gone in one game!

If I understand you correctly, than your math is wrong.
Example: You have 31 civs to choose from. And you're playing with 10 open slots (random opponents). Then the chance to get a given civ would be 10/31. So, to get it five times in a row, it would be (10/31)^5 = 0.004%. And that's just for one given nation... ("given nation" here meant as the nation which you do 'observe'). Of course, chances don't get better for more civs to appear in a row.

I always see Incans and Mayans in my games. And they are very annoying: Incans always declares war to everyone and Mayans are betrayers, usually breaking RoP. One day I had 3 games in row with 5 random civs, all of them were americans.

Well, I generally see the English, Mayans, and Incans more often then other Civs. hate the bloody English (Civ only!!!), they always randomly attack. Well, it is a Random Number Generator, complete randomness has random anomolies . . .
