The Cold War Deluxe; 1950-1991

Guys, I still haven't been able to get 1.4 to work.

Please Help

I've ensured that the folder and biq are in the correct location but i just got a pediaIcon error (B52 Plant) when the Senario was initialising.

Then i DL'd the updated biq and PediaIcon .txt for use with the Flags (i think). This got a bit further before it crashed (40% i think) as i am missing art/advisors/it_all.pcx apparentley.

I dont see anyone else having these problems and i managed to get 1.1 to work fine for me, so i'm a bit confused to say the least. I played 1.1 alot and thought it was great and from what i can tell this version looks even better, thus i'm eager to get going.

If anone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

IvorEd

Thats an odd problem... you would have to be patched to 1.22 to have played TCW1.1

Did you change anything? Modify something in the scenario to make it run differently? I doubt thats it, but thats all I can think of.

Check the file pedia.txt and run a search to see if those items have the right links.

Someone playing Rhye's mod had that problem recently, but I am not sure if we solved it or if he did it himself.

An easy program to use for this would be pic 0.1 (do a forum search for Ibn Sina and you will most likely find a link in his signature).

Sorry I cant help more!

When I click on the link to the main file it takes me to another website the link there will download an HTP file and then I click to download the file, it says there is a 2 - 3 minute wait and a blank popup screen comes up. I waited 15 min and nothing happened. Tried several times, same result.

The definition of insane: someone who does the same thing, the same way, time after time and expects a different rusult.
The Guardian,

i'm not sure why this is happening for you. TCW is a little different from other CFC files in the fact that it's stored on an external site rather than here at CFC. this is b/c of the larger file size.

however, this should prevent anyone from DL'ing it properly. i just finished testing it to see if it'd work on my PC on it did. there is a short "wait time" (why? i have no idea!) but once it finishes going through the que, another pop-up screen appears w/ a message saying to DL now or something.

let me know if it works for you b/c it should. also, i see that some were experiencing problems w/ the flag-head version...just DL the standard TCW pack (w/out the flags, etc) until i can figure out what the issues are.

lastly, a definite "yes" to your offer on the Vietnam maps/data.

oh, you're not "insane"..."dilligent" is a better word if you ask me :D

IvorEd,

my recommenedation to you would be to play the standard 1.4 version until i'm able to look at the pediaicons.txt & pcx files for the flags. i'm sorry about this but i just haven't had a chance to test it out. Rita Poon was kind enough to make them and post them but i haven't be able to test them yet...

it looks like the civ3 engine is looking for files that aren't there or are in the wrong folder.

alright then...you should have your TCW files in the following folders:

- the large DL folder labeled "TCW" should be in your "Scenarios" folder of Conquests
- the TCW1.4 biq file should also be in this folder

now, click "Civ-Content" on the title screen and you should be able to get it running.

let me know if you get it running b/c i can make sure that you do!

one more thing...

i've given some thought to the longer turn times during peace.

could the "Accellerated Production" flag have anything to do w/ this?

would removing this flag speed up turn times?

I seem to have a problem with all your scenarios... When I'm part way through the download it says Internet Explorer has encountered a erro and needs to close. This has happened twice and it's really annoying to be unable to play any of your great scenarios!!!

It sure would.

Accelerated Production means more shields which means more units on the map, which is one of the key elements to slow a game.

oy veh :twitch:

my first thought is that it could be the external storage site that the mods stored the folder in. by this i mean that the file is pretty large and TF opted to store it at 3DDownloads.com (or something like that) instead of internally here at cfc. IOW, it could be a techinical problem w/ the external site.

however, i'm no expert. maybe a mod or someone 'in the know' may be able to answer this more clearly. i will find a solution though...

yes. good point LouLong.

outside of the extra units on the map, would this flag affect any other aspect of long turn times? i mean, TCW turn times are shorter while war is declared yet it slows down during peace

Peace = no unit destruction = more units on the map = more CPU time.

BTW the advantage of having AP on is that if your map is very big with many cities far from the mainland and therefore with a high corruption level, these cities can still produce a bit. Whereas otherwise (AP off) they will probably remain highly dependant on the troops from the main core cities.

@ El Justo

Both items are in the correct folder.

I still can't make the original 1.4 work. This exits during initialisation as it cant find ...pediaIcons...BLDG...B52 Plant

The only thing i can think of that i've changed since i played 1.1, is that i deleted a couple of old scenarios that i dont play anymore (WWII). I'm not sure what effect that would have, if any.

Thanks,

Ivor

IvorEd,

i would try deleting the TCW files and DL them again and see what happens. let me know.

I'd like to tell you about my current game as a little nation called Israel. Israel was created after WW2 as a homeland for Jews seeking to escape persecution or genocide. They place they chose to escape to was a nice little spot on the Med. coast with pretty beaches and a lovely climate - A place also surrounded by hostile Arabs who just happen to be the clients of a hostile communist superpower up north.

"Oh well, it can't be any worse than gas chambers" the intrepid settlers thought.

One war of independence and a few miserable years later, we arrive to the date of Jan 1, 1960 when a new premier takes charge. The world is in the middle of a war of ideologies. Well, at least between the liberal western world and the communist warsaw pact. The rest of us are just opportunists getting bribed. :D

One of the best things about being hated by just about everyone is you completely lose the ability to trust people. And a nation that becomes collectively paranoid has neat intellegence agencies like the Mossad, which the premier quickly puts to use destroying the infrastructure of the Eastern Arab League while he builds his own domestic infrastructure up. This will be the short term goal of Israel for the first few critical years before airpower is established and put to use against any type of hidden nationality unit, and it will pay off huge later.

Around May of 1960 the Russians admit to the world that they figured out the Art of War. While many top officials congratulate the Communists for figuring out such a cool concept, many snicker privately that it would have been a lot more useful to know when the Nazis were thrashing them. The laughter was silenced in December of that year though. The Cubans had declared war on the US, and the fragile post war peace was shattered accross the world leaving little Israel very unprepared.

Part 2 coming whenever I type it. I'm all the way to 1971 in my game right now but I'm fairly wordy so this takes time to write. Oh well, I'll just put my mind to work for a bit. :mischief:

Haha, keep going!

EJ, you should establish a "Stories of TCW" thread for these guys to post in!

How excellent would that be?

Preeeeeetty sveeet dude ;p

El Justo,

I took your advice and IT WORKED. I'm slightly puzzeled as i did that about 3 times already, i swear. All hail El Justo.

At last i can crack on with a new game.

I'm starting as the UK. I thought this way i've got the channel coast to protect me from what i assume will be a Soviet onslaught through Western Europe. In preperation for this i've begun pulling my forces back from all positions east of the Suez Canal (although irl this didn't happen until 1968). However, i have decided to keep Diego Garcia as i'm hoping to score some success against enemy naval units from here.

Rule Britannia and God Save the Queen (but not Camilla. can you believe he gave up Princess Diana for that horse)

IvorEd,

that's good news! i'm glad you were able to get it running. nothing is more aggravating than technical problems...

post reports on UK if you can, too.

i may be dating myself, but i actually remember the day charles and di tied the knot! (i was but a child) ;)

Hey El,
I'm finally moving off of my @$$ now and I am putting together a massive strategy guide (have been planning this for months) so if you have any info click on the all calls link in my sig.

Plus when are you gonna give me the next steps in the random map creation?
