Bez1-Sid Rising. Ruling?

Missed the cool new RaR space movie, apparently conquest gets in first. I'm going to replay the turns just to see the movie though. Great opera house & sports league were built, WWW, Internet, E-bank & Sid future techs we missed out on.

Preflight: We're 3 techs = 6 turns from launch, and only at 52% territory. I switch on a variant of the farmer's gambit, and christen it the 'expand like rabid monkeys' gambit. 2 turns later, Gandhi is a OCC and desperate to be allowed to revert to pacifism, and the celts former home has a traffic jam:

London can't quite reach the 9th part in time, so our launch is delayed one turn. 1782 sees Gandhi finished, approx 20 cities founded, and the last spaceship part in London 1 turn away. Click the mouse, qualify for 4 victory conditions at once, and apparently the RaR gods have a preference for warmongers:

The power graph shows just how powerful modern units are in the hands of a human, even against a Sid AI with more units:

That was a very fun game guys, and a very impressive accomplishment. This team rocks, both in terms of skill level and balance. Where to from here?

I am going to dissapear for a while. Real life in the form of a cute blonde is going to be taking up my time.
I might be up for a DocTs run after some time. Bez just needs to watch out for me and my warmongering tendancies. After we (the wife and I) get set up for a bit, I might be back but only at a rate of not more than 2 Sg's at a time.
Great work team. Despite any differences we all worked together well. It was fun, and nice to be part of a Sid victory. Now ThERat has 2 Sid victories in SG's.

this is highlighted in bold only because it was such an astonishing win. will undo that, it's not meant to sound cocky.

great team effort, but the team will not exist longer, romeo taking a honeymoon break and bez pulled out of SG's all of a sudden.

I felt it was a great effort and those nasty discussions were not necessary since we all 'know' how to play, just in different style.

Yes, this was good fun, and some day the Celts will seek their revenge on DocTS level. But not this day, because the sun is shining outside. The weather will definitely have to be more frightful than those "nasty" discussions to lure me back to SG's again.

"'Yes,' said Pierre [Bezhukov], and he went on with what interested him. 'Nikolay says we ought not to think. But I can't help it. To say nothing of the fact (I can say so to you) that in Petersburg I felt that the whole thing would go to pieces without me, every one pulled his own way. But I succeeded in bringing them all together; and then my idea was so clear and simple. I don't say we ought to work against so and so. We may be mistaken. But I say: let those join hands who care for the good cause, and let our standard be energy and honesty.'"

Nice quotes. I haven't read War and Peace for a bit. I thought it would be fitting for me to include some of my favorite quotes.

Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
(Proverbs 26:12)

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
(Proverbs 27:2)

Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
(Isaiah 5:21)

And then 1 for me as well.
A man is never so proud as when striking an attitude of humility.
-- C.S. Lewis

I am more of a Hugo/Dumas man myself but I must admit I haven't read much since discovering civ3.
I tried Tolstoy and the D-guy, but couldn't get through them, War and Peace, Crime and Punishment, and The Communist Manifesto are the only 3 classics I ever bailed out on after starting reading. I even read all of the Origin of Species, and I am a creationist!!
To each his own.
Plus I enjoy verbal jousting, and bez is a good opponent. :crazyeye:

Well, Romeo, you've chosen your moniker well. Blessings on your impending marriage. Subtlety not being your strong suit, I also get your message on humility. The W&P quote was selected more for the part about not being able to not think, than the humility-challenged part. Not that Bezuhov was noted for his tact anyway. :)

On a nice humble note however, I just noticed that I've misspelled mine own moniker this whole time.

I'll leave you, Romeo the Monk, with this observation:

Tsze-hsia (dsiciple of Confucius) said, "The mean man is sure to gloss his faults."
Tsze-hsia said, "The wise man undergoes three changes. Looked at from a distance, he appears stern; when approached, he is gracious in manner; when he is heard to speak, his language is firm and decided."

@sanabas, I installed Rar 1.02 and played one of the end saves to launch, but all i got was the old Civ3 space race launch movie.

I noticed mention of a mod (?) to RaR (1.03 or 1.04?) but cant seem to find this on the site.

Can someone point out the error of my ways?

You can get RaR 1.04 here. Make sure you get all the files and manually install them per the listed instructions.
Enjoy.
1.04 thread/page

Thanks for the super quick reply, romeo.

That begs another question:

Do i need 1.03? From reading the thread, it appears i do.

You may need 1.03. Get 1.03 in the link below. This should be what you need.
1.03

Thanks for the links, they are so hard to find (the RaR thread is huge).

But i dont see where a different movie will play on a space race victory. Urban legend?

must be a legend cos I also didn't see a new movie

Guess someone was trying to trick Sanabas into a launch...

:mischief:

And I would have gotten away with it, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids!

We've been had. That is a very good Uncle Tupelo song.
New animation don't mean much to me. It is still the sissy way out, but not as bad as diplo.

Bah humbug, it's all the fault of the warmongering RaR gods. We get 4 VCs at once, and what do they pick? Conquest! I'm still going to replay the final save to watch the space movie, just because I can.

good to see you like real footy Romeo, I saw a doco on the US championships a couple of weeks ago, looks like it is starting to pick up some over there. Fun to play, I'm just handicapped by a complete inability to kick. Congrats on the wedding too.

No quotes from me, I'm short on profundities at the moment. Don't mind Dostoyevsky though.

Haven't heard of Uncle Tupelo. Tupelo is a very good Nick Cave song though.

doesn't surprise me much...go here with Romeo...never understood the need to not take on India just for a launch...what the thrill of doing that
but then...smart tactics to even trick sanabas into the finish you liked to have Bez

I am a builder at heart, I liked the idea of going for space. No tricks involved. Also a smartarse at heart some of the time, so 4-in-1 because we could also had plenty of appeal.

And I would have gotten away with it, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids!

So who was Bez under the obligatory mask? I don't think we ever met a caretaker or janitor or some random old guy in this thread. I'm sure some of my play looked like it was under the influence of scooby snacks though.

Doc's avatar is an old guy! Not implying anything, but just some FYI.
Uncle Tupelo is/was a small/midsize Americana band from the mid-90's. They were one of the first sucessful Americana bands, playing fusion country style.
I didn't comprehend ThERat's post, but hey, what is life for?
When I have the edge in a game and can finish it, I go for the kill ASAP. Exceptions are games that intentionally have alternate VC's. This one didn't say space, so I wanted a conquest, especially after those evil celt slogging turns.
I now have greater respect for Strategic Bombers. I think I will rename them "cheatcodes", as they are now my favorite unit in RaR. Well I actually like stealth bombers better, but you get strategic bombers so much quicker.
