Hey all!
I was about to build my first wonder in Civ IV, when the system "stalled". At the time the wonder video pops up, the game stopped and the sound had some "hick-up". My current version is the 1.52 update.
Please post your Dxdiag file (Start button - click- select run - type dxdiag - hit enter - wait a min - select "save all information" - post using the 'go advanced ' button below )
I have the same problem - as the wonder screen begins to open I just get a pop-up that only contains the wonder name at the top and nothing else at all. If I leave it a few moments an 'ok' button appears but after clicking this the game gets jittery and eventually crashes (seems to be a virtual memory problem perhaps?).
It's really funny! I just played a couple of rounds with al ot of wonders - no problems - BUT at least with the wonders "Angkor Wat" and "Stonehenge" i was kicked out with the same problems you've described!
I have a 1.7 GHz Pentium-M Dell M-60 with NVidia Quattro Ge1000. I solved the problem by: 1) reducing all graphic options to "medium" from high; and, 2) finding just the right NVidia driver. The latest (Oct 05) was terrible; my original (Feb 04) was better. Best was an intermediate version (Oct 04). Curious....
Try to use the stand-alone player with the movies in the game directory and see if they play smooth. Gives you another datapoint to base conclusions on.
