The Cold War Deluxe; 1950-1991

Man, u totally FAILED, its not exacly accurate, its not accurate at all...
I've heard that the greatest failure is he who cannot control himself.

I'm making an alternate biq myself at the moment. I consider it done, but maybe you have some ideas I can put in it? Perhaps you can offer a good alternative to what El J has come up with? Feel free to pm me, and we can chat...

Well not to pile on, but I would suggest Kuk first read the other 197 pages of this thread and he might learn why things were done the way they were.

Kuk might learn that there are only 30 positions max availabe in the game (limitation of the editor) and also due to map size limitaitons, the WP was not able to be represented on its own although it could be argued that since the countries of the WP were militarily occupied and were firmly controlled by Moscow during much of the time line of this scenario that it would not make a lot of sense to have it as its own position even if the map allowed it.

Given all the above, there was obviously a tremendous amount of thought that went into how things were set up.

OMFG, u added Poland and other Countries of Central Europe to USSR?!
The Hell were u thinking?

u know why was it called Warsaw Pact? cuz it was signed in Poland, in Warsaw!
Also the countries that destroyed the USSR (if u can call it that way) was POLAND, CHECH, SLOVAK...

exacly in 1989...

Man, u totally FAILED, its not exacly accurate, its not accurate at all...

OMG can't you read the nation name?? Warsaw Pact!!!!

about the airbase things...
The first (can't enter my own airbase tile) was without culture flip the other (aitlifting to an airbased occupied by foraign forces) was with cultural flip..

well i just use airbases if they are preplaced (as in this scen) and even so it happens quite seldom so i never had this problems before...
In the end it won't matter cause I doubt there will be somewhen an updated version of c3c...

After reading your post, I fired up a game last night on Sid, playing WP.
Haven't played that particular combo for quite a while.
I stopped playing in May of 1954 (ttok me about 90 minutes to get that far into the game)
I have 11976 Gold in the bank, and producing 478/turn, with Science at 60%.
I just started getting taxmen. What I did do was focus early on infrastructure builds. I aim to squeeze maximium coin out of empire asap. That means building anything that lowers corruption and then build markets, federal reserve banks, then factories.
I did not try to build up my armed forces early, though I have managed to build 6 IS-3 tanks, and have enough units to completely close my border with Europe.

This strategy is kind of dangerous, as you must avoid any war for quite some time. I have done so, and watched China and the U.S. pummel each other.

I can send you the save game if you like, to get an idea of how I did what I did.
I did about the same you did except I spent my money early on with luxurys and resources. economy was doing well until the golden age expired then economy went down hill fast .I started another game deity level with Russia and going to do what you suggested.im also playing China in another game and even though there economy is bad in the beginning its not as bad as Russia's later on. however it just seemed once the golden age ended things went down hill fast for Russia.I will give a update on my new game when the golden age ends and see if it has a effect on my economy this time.

Alright....this depresses me....please don't yell at me if this has been posted before...matter of fact I know it's been posted before, I just wasent able to find a solution...

I'm getting this error:

....I would like to know a fix for this cause...well...I like the cold war era :-D

I'm having a fantastic time playing Israel at the moment, its the mid-60's.

At first, the game's geographic flaws (Toronto is too far west, Germany is too far east, etc.) bugged me, but I quickly forgave those about three minutes into the game. It is an excellent scenario. Thus far, I have wiped out the Arab League, recaptured many of Iran's territories, and the Warsaw Pact is really starting to sweat. The infrastructure is fantastic. At first, it is very hard to get a good industrial site going (Tel Aviv is my best at a little over 100). So far, my artillery is by far my biggest asset. The field guns seem a little abusable. I am building a ton of them, 3 or less turns even in my slowest cities, and combining them with a massive infantry bloc. I use tanks only sparingly, to finish up all of the 1 health infantry there is at the end, and mainly using defensive aircraft.

The artillery is very effective. I just get about 60 field guns, blast the hell out of a city, and then infrantry charge. Its a little WWI-esque, but very cheap and effective. It mostly negates the Warsaw Pact's superior units and, unlike tanks, can quickly turn into an invincible garrison.

Excellent scenario, very good job.

Hey all. Like the rest of you, I've been enjoying El Justo's scenario for a good while. And like those of you who play the game late, I get rather lengthy turn times. This bothered me a bit becuase those units toward the end of the game really rock, and by the time you can actually get there, the game is slow, and probably the outcome is already decided.

So, I've created this alternate version. Essentially, it's the exact same thing, except all nations start in 1976, at the start of the last tech era. To compensate for having fewer years to play the game, each turn now takes 2 weeks instead of a month. All starting units are (mostly) the same, and upgraded to their appropriate counterparts for the starting tech level. In some cases I added or subtracted a few units because positions were rather unbalanced (as Isreal, for example, it was possible to march over and take Basra or Baghdad with your starting infantry on turn 1.... not good).

Please note that I have not attempted to make the starting OOB for the countries historically accurate. Also, I'm wasn't 100% sure on which nations got what goodies, so if you find any bugs or misplaced/wrong units, let me know.

The scenario uses El Justo's TCW game files, so no worries there. If you want to contact me, you can post in this thread (I'll usually check it every other day or so), or email me at psweetman1590ATsbcglobalDOTnet. All suggestions and criticism welcome!

All credits go to El Justo and the team that brought you the latest version of that wonderfully fun scenario that this variant is based off of.

And without further ado, here is the file. If I get enough suggested changes I'll release a new version of it later.

Edit - I have taken down the old version and uploaded a new one (version 1.10) that fixes some errors I made with the first one.

OK I will try it.
Yeah im the first to DL.

By 1976 North Vietnam had annexed the south.

Also where is the Chinese air force?

psweetman1590 I started your biq as China.
And ....... I have been waiting 10 mins for the next turn!
What do you do to make the turns so much longer?

Well, first off, like I said, I did not intend to make this a historical simulation of what the world was like in 1976. If you have specific suggestion as to how big a certain nations military should be, by all means, let me know. However, I did not and do not have time to research that stuff on my own. Same goes for Vietnam controlling Saigon. Hmm, that's an easy change I suppose I could make though. I'll give that some thought. :)

As for making the turn times longer, all I did was change the 1950 units to the 1976 units. The number of units should be almost identical (as I said, I made a few changes to help balance things in the beginning). I also added a lot of city improvements so that you wouldn't have to spend a lot of time building them in the beginning of the game. I don't see how that would make the turn times so much longer.

I played several turns as both Israel and Japan. I didn't get such long times, only two minutes or so. Is your comp good? I mean, the turn times should be just about as long as the first turns you take in the normal scenario.

Finally, is it just the first turn? I have a theory that the first turn in any scenario takes longer than usuall because the AI has to figure out what all of the cities are producing, adjust the workers, shuffle all of those units around, etc.. Do the turn times go down a bit after the second turn?

One more thing China had Nukes by 1976.

They can, IIRC, build the small wonder that allows them.

How many would be a good number to have preplaced, do you think?

Oh, and I've added Da Nang and Saigon to North Vietnam. :)

Note the Vela Incident may have been a Nuclear test.
The Vela Incident (sometimes known as the South Atlantic Flash) was an as-yet unidentified flash of light detected by a United States Vela satellite on September 22, 1979. It has been speculated that the flash was the result of a nuclear weapons test; however, much information about the event is still classified.
There has been speculation that it was an Israeli and or South African test.
See Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vela_Incident#Responsibility

Israel definitely has nukes, even if they won't admit it.

I'll add these in once I get back from classes.

South Africa admitted they did have a nuclear program, and had enough weapons grade material for at least 5 bombs. In 1994 they announced they had discontinued the program, and destoyed any bomb-making materials.

FAS has a decent high-level history: http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/rsa/nuke/index.html

Alright, SA gets one too then.

Maybe South Africa should have 1 nuke.
