PHAW 1.5: Rise of the Queen Mother Reprise (WL)

lurker's comment:

Wait. Say again. Wives can be...not...angry? I've never heard of such fiction. Truly, you jest. This is one of those Aussie bush-stories, right?

Let me echo this... Someone's wife is not angry with him for playing civ too much??? It can only be BS!

Of course, if I could at least read a paper on this crowded train I could dream on doing the same.

Back to lurking!

You have both mis-understood me. Playing too much Civ and not paying enough attention to wife guarantees an angry wife. Using dead time (time that wife doesn't see you, knows you are not there, cannot be used by wife for other purposes) to play Civ solves the problem of me not getting my Civ fix and leaves other time (that I might have used to get my Civ fix) for other, happy-wife generating activities :D

Other australia bush stories ...

hoop snakes
drop bear

Using dead time (time that wife doesn't see you, knows you are not there, cannot be used by wife for other purposes)
to me, the funniest aspect is that 'dead time' is strictly defined as only that time when the wife doesn't need you.

on another note, i'm a little disappointed that Aussie Bush Stories was NOT porn :nono:

on a 3rd note, FB ~ though you may be re-lurked already, i'm surprised the train is THAT crowded in Brazil that you can't read ~ do you work in Rio?? Are you a Carnivale dancer?? ;) :D

on a final note, is there a game going on in this thread somewhere?? (yes, I know Ruff, you got it, please don't yell at me again! )

I guess I mean 'dead time' from the wife's perspective. Game played, 2 turns to go, then report and post.

2 turns until I've played my 10 ... got a quick train today. Expect and angry report!

I played the first 9 rounds of my 10 rounds and it was easy. Kill a few units, take a city, gain two workers, some cash, hurry up the tech on construction, easy peasy. Build a settler, prepare the phant site for that settler, build two archers for protection, send some coverage down early, pre-road the phants, restrict the AIs, pillage their metals, win a 70% and 75% battle, lose one at 90% (oh well), easy peasy.

Then!!!!!

Round bloody 10!

But before I get to that ... what is this on Round 9? Yes, it just looks like a tri plus a galley to me too. Is that any problem and something that I should worry about? No. We have no sea based resources to worry about ... so, sure, go and travel, tour, knock yourself out.

queenmother-0125.jpg

And then, next round ... nothing. Just move two tiles and more site-seeing. Maybe they are surfing ... still not a problem. But wait, there is more ... stupic bloody game!

THIS!!

queenmother-0116.jpg

But wait, there is still more. bloody idiotic game ... see this! Round 9 again. My phant city site, workers chopping jungle, phant roaded, everything ready to go, settler 1 turns movement away and it will be able to settle on the 'city' tile next turn. Perfect!

queenmother-0126.jpg

So, turn 10 rocks around. I cannot believe what happened with the stupid quasi-empty galley. Still horsehockey over that. I send a chariot North to Moscow, change the build to a spear, send our Eastern sword protection over towards Moscow (had to stop and kill a barb, so not full health), horsehockey game. I can deal with this, I guess we'll lose the mine but we have 20k workers now so not a biggie. At least I get to found my phant city site.

AND THIS!!

queenmother-0124.jpg

Those swords should knock out that silly city, then it is phants, cats and trouble for the AIs.

No, it's not that crowded. It's a little bit more than that. When you see a lady pushing all the people in front of her further inside the train so she can go in, even if it means be kissing the door, you can just be glad that walk-mans are becoming smaller every day. :mischief:
And no, I don't work in Rio. Sao Paulo is about.... 500 Km from there and about... 4 times bigger. And believe me... In Rio things are not easier too.

So much for the international content here. The Aussie stories are funnier! ;)

Back to the lurker's pit.

I will be even gladder that (a) fragrance are more commonplace, (b) people bathe more often, and (c) if most of the commuters are ladies ;)

ohhh...san paulo ~ now that you mention that it's so big, i think i saw a special on that city on some cable channel...i think anyway...is it so big that they use air-taxis to get across it??

anyway, nice turns, ruff ~ the result is far less worse than I thought it would be; i was expecting the stack of doom to arrive. That city is a mere fly, an annoyance. cabledawg will take it out for us.

Roster:
1. Pholkhero >> on deck
2. Frankcor >>
3. Ozbenno >>
4. Ruff Hi >> just played
5. Zophos >>swapped
6. Cabledawg >> UP NOW

Preturn
Metalcasting is currently selected, but our finances are really bad. 59 in the bank and losing 3GPT at 0% research. I chose Calender over Currency as itll increase our happy cap and bring in money. Everything else looks fine, allthough there seems to be too many troops near Alex and i really need cats on his big city. Press Enter

65AD...I see a German Expansion crew going to work. They clocked in late, so i punished them.
Civ4ScreenShotA1.jpg

80AD...I took out Shakas invaders that had landed on the marble. Battle of Sparta begins. There wasnt 300 so it was pretty easy...no losses
Civ4ScreenShotA2.jpg

125AD...Sword lands near Masihero that I should have seen earlier...I que an Axe there.
Civ4ScreenShotA3.jpg

170AD...We get a GS and an Academy springs up in the capitol. Attack commences on Nongoma. Lose a cat cuz Im an idiot.....remember....incompitent. It autorazes.
Civ4ScreenShotA4.jpg

185AD...Founded Jumbo at the sign.
Civ4ScreenShotA5.jpg

200AD...Pillaging Shaka while troops heal at Jumbo
Civ4ScreenShotA6.jpg

215AD...Razed Thebes without losses. Thx for the 22G.
Civ4ScreenShotA7.jpg

We now have 158 in the bank losing 9GPT at 30%. Calender due in 12. Ive been roading some of our resources in advance. Ive been pillaging the germans to the stone age. We need to decide what we are going to do about the civs that arent close to us...do we need to send pillaging parties all the way across the map? Do we need to invent a teleportation device? Why do birds sing? Wheres the beef?

The save
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/97311/Queen_Mother_AD-0215.CivWarlordsSave

see, I cant even spell it.
 good turns, dawg~ I will survey the scene and adjust our troops accordingly. Even Zimbabwe looks do-able with only two archers, though the cultural def is high (50%) I imagine Athens to be in a similar situation defensively, so it looks like we pillage nearby, and raze secondary cities as we can w/low defenses and such to keep the AIs making settlers not bombs.

Now Im craving a Volkswagon
how odd, my wife told me today that we should get a VW!

Ive got it, but can't play until tomorrow night so feel free to suggest away ~

Okay, I've got an am ready to go. Do a bit of MM; only thing was to grow Moscow a bit faster since the cat was done. Press Enter.

Turn 182/660 (215 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:42:15]
Moscow finishes: Catapult

IBT:

Turn 183/660 (230 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:43:57]
our cat is done @ moscow; so I start another. I send this one towards Athens. All but one of the cats I build goes towards Athens (the leftover is heading towards St Petersberg, which, I must insist, we rename Petrograd when we take it.

Here's our pillage-teams for now. One in Germany to our SW:
230germanpillagersax3.jpg

And the other in Zululand:
230zimbabwepillagersdr8.jpg

I also move to eliminate one of the Separtists archers: While attacking in Russian territory near Novgorod, Swordsman defeats (5.16/6): Russian Archer (Prob Victory: 98.1%)
230russianarcherlg3.jpg

IBT:

Turn 184/660 (245 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:47:20]
Novgorod builds another cat, and heads for a war elephant (though I MM it to grow a bit first). Novgorod begins: War Elephant (15 turns)

An English archer gets a bit too close for comfort While attacking in Russian territory at Jumbo, 4th Swordsman of Moscow (Swordsman) defeats (1.50/6): English Archer (Prob Victory: 93.9%)
245romanarcherji4.jpg

IBT:

Turn 185/660 (260 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:50:29]
Pillage, pillage, pillage
A Hamlet near Berlin was destroyed by Russian Chariot
A Mine near Ulundi was destroyed by Russian 2nd ex-Borg Chariot (Chariot)

IBT:

Turn 186/660 (275 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:52:13]
Pillage: A Cottage near Berlin was destroyed by Russian Chariot

IBT:
Civics Change: Ragnar(Vikings) from 'Despotism' to 'Hereditary Rule' Looks like Ragnar's got Monarchy; perhaps headed for Feudalism? That wouldn't be good, eh? Most likely they're going to start trading techs soon, too!

Turn 187/660 (290 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:53:15]
I move in on a Zulu chariot hanging outside the city. I promote the Axe first with Formation: While attacking in Zulu territory at Ulundi, 1st Axeman of Moscow (Axeman) defeats (2.75/5): Zulu Chariot (Prob Victory: 96.6%)
290zuluchariottf1.jpg

IBT:

Turn 188/660 (305 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:54:52]
Masihero gives us a Cat, goes Sword next. I also spent some time attacking:

While attacking in German territory near Berlin, Axeman defeats (5.00/5): German Archer (Prob Victory: 98.1%)
305germanarcheby3.jpg

While attacking in German territory near Berlin, Chariot defeats (1.60/4): German Archer (Prob Victory: 94.1%)
305germanarcherzr4.jpg

While attacking in the wild near Athens, Chariot defeats (3.52/4): Barbarian Warrior (Prob Victory: 99.9%)
305barbwarriorzf0.jpg

William the Conqueror (Great General) born in Moscow Bill the Conqueror wsa born just in time to sack Athens. In reality, i think merging him to Masi is best
305biillconquerormasihelg5.jpg

And a bit of pillage: A Farm near Ulundi was destroyed by Russian 2nd ex-Borg Chariot (Chariot)

IBT: D'oh! Bismarck strikes back! While defending in German territory at Berlin, Chariot loses to: German Archer (2.37/3) (Prob Victory: 5.6%)
305ibtgermanarcher2hm7.jpg

Turn 189/660 (320 AD) [14-Apr-2007 20:58:22]
Another cat at moscow; goes for elephant next.

IBT:

Turn 190/660 (335 AD) [14-Apr-2007 21:00:27]
I spy a Carthaginian stack NW of Zimbabwe (probably at our borders at the end of the next set):
335carthagestackpo8.jpg

I also spot a more worrisome Roman stack:
335romanstackmd3.jpg

In better news, we have 1 million people:
335millionde7.jpg

I stack on an Axeman at Masihero for protection. We'll need it.

IBT:

Turn 191/660 (350 AD) [14-Apr-2007 21:02:20]
Okay, on my last turn, I whipped 2 units: the axe at Masi for 1, the ele @ Moscow for 2.

The roman ministack is caught us a bit unprepared.
350romanstackpv8.jpg

We'll survive, I think, but w/too many losses ~ unless we can get more back up there soon.

However, on the eastern front, our Schlieffen Plan to take St Pete by way of Athens is working perfectly:
350athensgn9.jpg

We could start the attack next turn, or wait 2 to suicide a cat or two (and that chariot there in the stack; that's why I gave him w/draw).
