I think I might have figured out a way to make LM Sea for those who would like to mark sea tiles that have a higher or lower movement rates. You know, trade winds, gulf streams, etc....

I am making the sea bottom with pits and crevices and raised areas.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Wow, this is a really good idea, I don't think anyone has toyed with LM Seas. :goodjob:

But can you actually change movement for LMs? I don't seem to remember...

Yes, you can. I made LM mountains to have 1000 MP cost. But it was fairly useless.

A LM terrain sea is a very good feature. LM terrain in my eyes at present is one of the most underestimated gifts of C3C.

The question is, if the outlook for that terrain is the best, fitted to a region in the sea with an accelerated movement (trade winds, gulf streams, etc.). May be a graphic that gives the impression of a streaming sea is better suited for this ?

And for regions with slower movements, may be some icehills could be nice.

This is a great idea! Maybe you could do multiple versions, one for undersea features and another for floating ice. And if possible for Rhyes terrain too :)

That's interesting idea, looks like "dangerous" waters. LM Sea is a nice feature though doesn't work as good as I thought when I first tried to used it (e.g. it overlaps with normal tiles, so a player can't really tell if it's LM Sea or normal Sea without clicking on each tile).

Regarding ice hills: hope you don't mind the little plug - I've attached a pcx I've made long time ago. It's not finished and uses PTW ice terrain sea... but someone could maybe use some bits and pieces to make something useful :mischief:

Thanks. Looks good. I might borrow some of those.:)

I guess if it doesn't work well because of the overlap, that won't stop me. My original intent was to add a few tiles of variety to the sea and ocean tiles by adding maybe a dolphin or shark here and there, some underwater landmarks (watermarks?), just to break up the monotony. I got around to thinking that it could be used as landmarks.

BTW, if you were to use them as landmark and use the goto function to get to the other side of the sea, would the game calculate the fasted route and therefore use the landmark tiles?

this is sweet. How did you get it to work? I tried making impassable ice flows before, but the graphic didn´t show up. Great job!

Sorry I now had a look in the dictionairy: A German "Eisberg" is an English "Iceberg". So this sounds somewhat international.

Interesting is the story of the overlapping Sea-LM-terrain. Could this be a first step for the solution of the riddle of the "Deepwater harbours" :

The overlapping I was referring to is strictly visual, that is, a sea tile near a LM sea tile may get the LM graphic.

I downloaded the Age of Piracy scenario, NB nice find, never seen it before. It seems that it was done with the MapTweaker, which has a map editor that allows placing of tiles disregarding Civ3 editor rules. I just tested it and it worked, though keep in mind you can't make any further map modifications to such map in the standard editor or it will 'fix' the invalid tiles (and it looks ugly sometimes).

The MapTweaker! ED, you are really a Civ 3 superstar. :worship:

How exactly does that work? And when you say you cant make any more modifications does that mean you have to have everything else done in the editor before making an "invalid" terrain modification?

Wait.. are all those canyons in the picture yours, or just the ones in teh circles? :)

Just the circles are what I am looking to add new.

The shelf between the sea and the ocean tiles is Crackedcrystal's mod, because it uses the same file as my reef mod, I have added Crackedcrystal's mod to my reef mod.

The reef with: continental shelf, sea/ocean shelf, fjords and ship wreck was added with the xtgc and wcso files.

Just click on reef in my signature below.

Sea currents won´t work very well in Civ. You see, currents have directions, they´re one-way, they don´t poit every way since they´re vectors.
