NoP NESII: The "New Imperialism"

You're worried?

Perhaps a PM should be sent to germanicus?

I apologize for not sending orders in so far, I just do not have the time anymore. So go ahead and drop me from France and I will see about taking a smaller nation that requires 5 or less minutes to type up.

Again sorry for leaving France NPC'd again.

Boer Republics, United Kingdom- Sir George Pomeroy Colley Calls Have Been Answered
July 7th

The local conflict starting in northern Transvaal, which numbers on either side ranging only in the high hundreds on either side has reached a new level of activity in recent weeks as Sir Colley, the commander of British Forces in Cape Colony has gotten response of six new divisions coming under his command within the next two weeks. He has already started a more aggressive policy, being a bit more liberal with his current five divisions than might be safe. Similarly around Durban, Boer Forces are also acting aggressionate, pushing more and more on the defenders, considerably weakening them. While there is harsh conflict in the south-east, where five Boer Divisions are trying hard to take well entrenched British positions, in the northern section three Transvaal divisions are easily able to gain more ground in this currently under-defended area. One the home front, volunteers have exceeded the quotas, forming irregular divisions.

West Africa- Humanitarian Crisis as Futa Jalon Starts Wars with Futa Jalon
July 8th

Futa Jalon Soldiers Test New Rifles

Juta Jolon has become a hot spot of recent tribal warfare as Futa Jalon almost massacres traditional warlords, most notably Futa Toro, with modern Portuguese rifles. During this advance, there are reports of massive rapes of indigenous population, which was witnessed by a French Missionary in the region who described the events as “a hell on earth,” while the soldiers of Futa Jalon “resemble demons as one would see surrounding Satan, they have no respect for humanity or the sanctity of life.” Two missionaries were burnt to the ground, while others were looted by the irregulars. In the Capital City, which they reached in short order with little resistance, they took to the essential depopulation of it. Forced marches of thousands of people, mostly west into the Tukular Caliphate left hundreds dead. Domestic reaction has been good however, as these depopulated regions have been given to Futa Jalonian farmers.

Afghanistan, United Kingdom- Rioting Afghanistan
July 10th

In Afghanistan last week, 47 British Soldiers were killed in a massive riot in Kabul against the “Heathen Oppressors.” This comes during a rising time of instability in the region, where Russian Agents have been known to cause trouble here in the past. British Authorities have begun inflicting strike measures in this city, enforcing strict curfews as well as placing checkpoints to prevent the carrying of any sort of weaponry. This has cause a massive backlash from Minister Guru Sahbib, a prominent Sikh and advisor to Emir Abdur Rahman Khan. There has also been reports of restrictions of movement into the prominent Pul-e Khishti, a famous mosque in the city. Across the rest of the Emirate, there has been murmurs of further actions to come, prompting Britain to move in two more divisions from India.

Italy, Britain and Germany- Starting Colonial Empires Clash
July 27th

Recently Britain announced the formation of the “North Congo Trading Company,” a direct response to Italy's claim of the area. Italy responded with a large investment into it's own colony, prompting a surge of colonists, expanding up the Congo River, as well as the establishment of a port in the area for resupply. The United Kingdom landed their expedition with hoped of cutting off the Italian colonialists by over-reaching them and grabbing the river (very wei qi like), but were unable to compete with the Italians and their current possession of the Congo. At the same time Germany easily conquered the Benin Empire, starting their own colonial empire in Africa.

Russia- Tsar Announces Massive Project to “Connect East and West”

Earlier this week the Tsar unveiled a radical new project that will revolutionize the economy and infrastructure of Russia. The “Trans-Siberian Railway” was much talked about, but the scale of the project was unheard of, many thousands of miles longer than the Continental Railroad in the United States. Although the project requires much investment, which might be difficult for the strained Russian treasury, it's effects will undoubtedly and profoundly revolutionize Russia.

Chile, Peru, and Bolivia- War in the Pacific

August 4th

Although it went under-reported earlier in the year, Chile's surge in the War of the Pacific has been remarkable. They were able to land divisions at Ariquipa, as they have unquestioned control of the sea in that area. Bolivia has officially dropped out of war, signing away large concessions in the west, which have been used as a staging point for Chile to raid into Peru. Peru, despite this loosing position has little interest in peace, and continues, what many call, a suicidal war.

United States- Correction in US Market
August 6th

The United States market underwent a major correction yesterday as the national banks started to slow the volume of their loans, as well as debate started on a new bill that will tie a minimum wage requirement to all federal subsidies, a move that has turned many bulls bearish. A large dip occurred, but then stabilized.

Boer States, United Kingdom- War Turns in South Africa
August 10th

The recent surge of the troops in South Africa has started to tide the war against the Boer States. The six new divisions from the United Kingdom made the total in the region to 11, matching the 11 divisions of the Boer Republic. Although the Boer troops have experience in this terrain, the British tacticians and superior weaponry have been able to compensate. However the reinforcements were unable to save Durban in time, and the division held up there was captured by the Boer State. In the south, the British have entrenched themselves, while in the north they have taken on an aggressive policy, expecting little resistance, however three divisions meet them, making British gains minimal.

Persia, UK, Afghanistan - Persian Empire Lacks Control of Generals

August 23th

In an apparent independent action, a Persian General Manuchehr Khan, consorted with the Emir of Afghanistan for a coordinated strike against the British Forces, breaking numerious treaties between Afghanistan and the United Kingdom. The irregular afghan divisions were vastly expanded by former soldiers, and then struck against the British forces in the region. At the same time, a Persian Cavalry force lead by the renegade general struck into Afghanistan, capturing the historically Persian city of Herat, in northern Afghanistan. The British forces were all infantry, and were unable to contend with the mobile forces that Persia was utilizing.

Peru, Chile- Peruvian Resistance Crumbles

August 25th

Chile has pressed it's offensive and currently is only a couple of miles from Lima. The Peruvian Republic has been effectively disbanded, and sole control is rested with the President Andrés Avelino Cáceres. Although it the conquest of Peru seems inevitable, the President continues the campaign. Many worry about the possible union of Chile and Peru, which would be a significant power in the region. The Bolivia has tried to pressure Chile into excepting a more amicable peace treaty with Peru than the one Chile put forward which would effectively revoke Peruvian Sovereignty. Argentina has some angst, particularly due to worries about Chilean claims to Patagonia.

Serbia, Bulgaria- Economic Completion in Balkans
August 26th

A tight economic competion has begun between Serbia and Bulgaria, as both rush to complete railroad projects. Although Bulgaria's is more locally focused, a Serbian run network across the Balkan area will significantly reduce the economic effects of a local Bulgarian one. Meanwhile the Ottoman Empire had opened the Balkans up further to foreign investment, making the Serbian Plans to connect Athens to the network even easier.

Switzerland, Morocco- Recent Survey Finds Switzerland “Happiest Nation”, Followed by Morocco

Switzerland has continued massive reforms in of both their educational system as well as many welfare programs, prompting many “we love the prime minister” days. Educational reforms have also lead to the highest literacy rates in the world. In Morocco, comprehensive health care reforms have similarly improved conditions.

Russia- Rebellion in Central Asia as Russia tries to take Control

September 11th

A under-funded and under-maned military expedition to gain control of the remaining Central Asian Khanates prompted a massive negative response throughout Russian central Asia. The decisive victory of the Khanates gave hope to many rebel groups throughout the region, and Russia has lost control of most of the rural areas in the southern provinces. Fortunately these area are of little economic importance, and it is seen by Russian elites as more of an embarrassment than a threat.

Japan, Korea
- Confidence in Japan Surges as Emperor Meiji Heats up Rhetoric Against Japan
September 12th

Japanese Emperor Meiji has continued to give unsettling speeches to Japanese crowds, saying essentially that Korea no longer deserves to exist, and that they should pay large fines to Japan. The nation has increasingly backed Emperor Meiji who has recently sent a diplomat to Korea to demand the aforementioned fines, as well as inform Korea of Japan's mobilization. Korea has yet to respond, however they are unlikely to give in, believing that Japan has neither the military might, nor the will to face a bloody war in the Korean Peninsula.

Italy, Tunisia, Ottoman Empire- Italy Calls in Loans from Tunisia by Force, Ottoman Empire Protests

September 15th

The Kingdom of Italy, recently gaining the “status” of empire, and continued it's colonial ambitions in Africa. Earlier this week, a formidable fleet of Italian Ships out maneuvered a Tunisian fleet outside of Tunis, and then started a bombardment of the city proper. At the same time, a Tunisian diplomat delivered a declaration of war, citing unpaid debt, which Tunisia claims doesn't exist. Immediately the word reached Istanbul, where the Sultan has given the Tunisian Bey his full support, and sending a telegram to Italy demanding that they cease their bombardment. However, the next day, Italian ships did not turn back, instead they landed approximately 80,000 troops inside the significantly weakened capital, easily able to overpower the 10,000 poorly armed and trained Tunisian soldiers in the city. Another 30,000 are coming in from the surrounding country.

Korea, Japan - Korean Navy Soundly Defeated at Battle of the Yellow Sea
September 21st

Japanese Bombard Seoul, Capital of Korea

Outside of Seoul, Korea, in the Yellow Sea, a massive armada of Japanese ships utterly crushed a patrolling Korean fleet of two squadrons. Right behind the Japanese spearhead were dozens of troop carriers, supported by capital ships, which began bombarding Seoul proper. After destroying the majority of the ancient forts and castles in the area, Japan started to land an unprecedented invasion force at Seoul. Hundreds of thousands of Korean and Japanese soldiers faced off outside of the city. Although the Japanese had superior training and armaments, Korea had enough time (as it took some time to supply the large Japanese force) to dig in massive earthworks around the city. Another Japanese force, much smaller in size, landed on the other side of the Peninsula. At the same time, Japanese Capital ships moved in closer to the city, a fatal mistake as Korean gun positions were set up inside the city ready for them. At the same time they started exchanging volley's, the Japanese begun their attack on the earthworks. The combined effect of this 2 pronged land attack, as well as naval pressure, was to much for the Korean Army, and they quickly crumbled under the pressure.

Ottoman Empire, Italy- Ottoman Empire attacks Italian Fleet in the Central Mediterranean

October 1st

Naval Engagement Outside of Tunis

The Bey of Tunisia, still a de facto part of the Ottoman Empire, has responded to the recent Italian Occupation of Tunis very unpredictably. He implored the Ottoman Empire for help, and the Ottoman Empire, keen to reestablish influence in Northern Africa was eager to help. After Italy declined their ultimatum, a massive Ottoman Fleet, consisting of 5 capital ships with associated squadrons, slammed into the harbor at Tunis, they started in the evening to minimize losses if the battle turned against them. The Italians, caught off-guard, were only able to respond a couple minutes later. The volley's continued into the night, until eventually it appeared all Italian ships were some how or other incapacitated, although with significant Ottoman losses. During the night, the Ottoman fleet didn't rest, fealing that they had the initiative, they sailed north to Sicily and the port city of Palermo, where they began a bombardment against the port facilities and the small naval contingent based there. The next morning, the Italian Fleet was able to regroup and force the Ottomans out of Palermo, but they still haven't regained control of the area around Tunisia, making any resupply/reinforcement of their new conquest unlikely.

Boer Republics, United Kingdom- Humanitarian Situation Develops as Orange Free State Struggling for Control

October 13th

As the tide begins to turn against the Boer Republics, a new policy employed by the British is raising many eyebrows, as well as some international attention. As British troops advance, they have adopted controversial targets, the civilian population. In a manor reflecting Sherman's March in Georgia, the British troops have been able to puncture deep into the Orange Free State, torching all they see, as well as killing as many men as they can find. Thousands of others have been pushed into concentration camps, leading to huge shortages of vital supplies. In the south, the Boers have had some success, but as the Orange Free State divisions have been falling back to protect their own homes, many worry about the prospects of further advances. In an act of cosmic karma, however, malaria and typhoid have become rampant in British camps, killing more men than on the battlefield. The Boer Army, due to it's decentralized organization, have avoided much of this wrath.

Afghanistan, UK, Persia- British Forces Strike back into Afghanistan, with Limited Success

November 2nd

With only an additional 6 British divisions, based out of India, British commanders tried to regain control of their former territory, with little success. The mountainous terrain allowed Persian cavalry divisions and Afghan irregulars to completely decimate the British advance. The Persian commander, still supposedly acting independently of the Persian high command, set up Persian control of Herat as well as helped Afghanistan set up a small regular force from some of the irregulars and militias. There is some rising tension however between the Sunni Afghans and the Shi'a Persians in the western regions.

U.S. Economy Surges Ahead Again, Confidence at All Time High
November 11th

President Hayes announced, in reaction to the recent economic downturn, another massive subsidy package, vastly expanding the successful subsidy plan. The most recent subsidies targeted the oil industry, the steel industry and the railroad companies. The plan, combined with some civil service reform, has again reinvigorated the economy. However many claim these subsidies are “merchantalistic” and there is growing resentment both from the large U.S. Importing market, as well as from Canada and other countries in North America.

Siam - Laos Surrenders
November 26th

As Siam continues to flood Laos with divisions, continually defeating the remaining Laos forces, many feudal lords (as was the social/economy organization of Laos at the time) have been separately signing treaties with Siam, as they were guaranteed to keep their positions in authority. Eventually these too factors weakened Loas so much that the Monarchy ran away to Vietnam. The remaining military leaders signed a cease fire with Laos, and then a treaty that involved the annexation of all of Laos to Siam.

Japan, Korea - Japanese Overrun Korean Forces throughout the Peninsula
November 27th

Japan has continued it's effective campaign against Korea, landing forces throughout the west coast. The Korean's have successfully held off the Japanese forces around the city of Pyongyang, forming a “last stand” which so far has been able to defeat waves of Japanese soldiers. Also, along the east coast, there is strong resistance in the mountainous terrain.

November 28th

In the streets of Beijing, the people been protesting the ineffectiveness of the Chinese government to protect a good ally of China, Korea. These two nation have strong economic, social and political ties, and the current war in Korea is having harsh effects on both the Chinese People's Confidence, as well as much effect on their economy. At the same time, many military leaders in Russia have warned that the growing Japanese power in the Pacific is blocking off their own trade in the region, as well as compromising their strategic position with China.

Update on Situation in West Africa
December 13th

Futa Jalon growing influence in West Africa is increasingly threatening the Tukular Caliphate to the north, so much so they have recently declared war. Fortunately for Futa Jalon, although unfortunately for anyone who values humanity, their neighbor to the north has mostly cavalry which is completely ineffective in the jungle conditions in the south, but is able to defend any sort of aggression. In the former Futa Toro, the crimes against humanity have not stopped, as the conflict has picked up some religious elements, because of the growing influence of missionaries in the region. This has attracted the attention of many foreign powers into this genocide, which the Futa Jalon has been having some difficulty reigning in.

Italy, Ottoman Empire, Tunisia – Italian Forces in Tunisia Surrender, Ottoman Fleet and Italian Fleets Disengage
December 26th

Ottoman Forces Storming Italian Positions

Seven Ottoman Divisions recently joined the battle against Italian Occupyed Tunis with much success. The Italians, cut off from resupply and reinforcements, had no choice but to surrender in short order. The Italian Parliament then decided to cut their losses and sign a cease fire with both the Ottoman Empire and Tunisia. In the cease fire, the majority of the approximately six surviving divisions were returned to Italy. Surprisingly, this short war went unnoticed by France, who had their own imperialistic agenda in the region, which the Ottoman Empire now seems to have crushingly defeated with their current occupation of Tunisia.

Great Update Comrade!

It must be Christmas cause I got just what I wanted ;)

...Also, I know it doesn't show up in the update but does some of the other stuff I write in my orders actually have an effect at all or is it just wasted space?

Of course it has an effect, as the more specific you are in your orders, the less I have bad things happen. For example, Italy was extremely general in their orders, so there was easily enough room for me to have the Ottoman Empire intervene against their behalf. Also, projects take less "turns" to complete with more specificity.

To Britain
From Germany

You remind us of the Huns, spitting babies on your bayonets. Britain will cease and desist, because the slaughter of Christians is really... stop. It's just disgusting, and we're seriously rethinking our neutrality.

OOC: I want to point out, I typed Hun here before I saw Communisto using it.

OOC: The only bone I have to pick was my attack was not "random or historically silly". Tunisia did owe huge debts to the Italians at this time, and the only reason the French ended up with colony was the inexperiance of Italian diplomats. I'll admit it was general orders, but I didn't think I needed them. I should have been able to crush the place checking stats. I also figured it was extremely unlikely in the real world for the Ottman Empire to react at all. In real life all they made was an informal protest.
