NEScz - North American Natives

@Sloaf
True you have 6 EPs!

@justokre
Yes, but there also was in history. In iroquoian Five Nations was tribe named "Seneca"...

@All

Yes, but there also was in history. In iroquoian Five Nations was tribe named "Seneca"...

lurker's comment: Only it's really spelled Osininka, and the tribe itself is actually called Onodowaga.

Dangit, I was planning on making a colony over there.

EDIT:
I also give thumbs DOWN to the names "Acadia" and "Singodia". Sounds like Romans named them. :sad:

Maybe your tribe did make a colony over here a long time ago and forgot about it. Build some canoes, swing on over, and lets have a family reunion. ;)

I just picked Acadia for the cultural group in Louisiana. "Cajun" would be more appropriate, but that sounded too corny for a tribe name. I know Acadians were actually French, but whatevah. Maybe the name originally came from Rome.

About the ep spending, how do you increase it?

Explained in the instructions (second post of this thread).
Industry – Generates EPs. One Industry point, one EP per Update. Industry can be improved for cost of the level of industry you’re going on. So if you have Industry on level 2 and going on level 3, you’ll pay 3 EPs. Warning! You can’t improve industry more than the settlement level can hold.

Thank you Sloaf :)

So Honzas, any reply to my questions about nomad tribes?

:nuke: Cheers, Thorgrimm :nuke:

If I dont get orders in by the deadline, go ahead and NPC me, sorry.

@Thorgrimm
I am still thinking about it, but some main things I have.
On the map: Tribe will be normally shown with settlements and area of influence, but there also will be arrow which will show which way is tribe moving.
Settlements: Your settlements would have special size ranking. Just about population, not size. You could have one-update encampments with low maximal industry, but could move every turn and also they have permanent militia defending the settlement. These will be populated with lower number of citizens. Also you could have larger settlements, which will have more industry, but they will have to wait more turns to move as they grow, this should significate that tribe settled down for a while. Those will be as an ordinary settlements. If you wish you could upgrade your one-update settlements to regular and settle down.
In total: Nomadic tribes will have less industry than regular tribes, but they will be much more efficient in combat and resistant to bad living conditions which could mean better confidence.
I will be thinking more about it... if you have some idea, feel free to tell me!

@lord_joakim
This is NES as it may be! It will never end!

@Update 4
I will make update tommorow or today, I'll see. Sorry for delay!

I like your ideas so far, but truthfully, the population should be the settlement. In OTL the reason the Sioux and all the other plains tribes were so hard to pin down was due to their mobility; they were not tied to a permanent place like the eastern tribes were. In point of fact, it was not until the Buffalo herds were decimated to the point of near extinction and the Oglala were on the point of starvation that they finally surrendered and moved to the reservations. The US Army never caught Crazy Horse and his people. They surrendered when they began to starve.

Even though they had no permanent settlements as the US and Europe would know them, they did have lands they claimed as their own and defended them fiercely. So I think if enough troops were committed they could be pinned down. But that would entail the risk of a Greasy Grass type of loss happening to the invaders if their columns would get seperated.

About industry, everything beyond items that could be made by the tribe Bows, arrows, clothes etc, etc. etc. had to be traded for since they had no industry what-so-ever. Everything was hand crafted.

These are just my thoughts on the matter. I know my tribe would eventually lose to a sedentary tribe eventually due to that tribe's usage of agriculture and subsequently larger population. But the idea of playing a nomadic tribe, free to roam the plains, is just something I wish to do. :D Call me an old sentimentalist, I think sometimes progress does not mean better if you have to give something up in return. :)

Just bank ep for me, ok? I cant do anything at the moment. My comp keeps restarting.

"Many tribes roaming the plains of North America are settling down -- researching new ways of living -- or they are still on move with everything they have. Lifestyle is changing through the continent. But something strange happened..."

Small village of Taaka was finally conquered by Mio Mio fighters and also it was burned a lot. Chief of Appan people written this to the Wise Eagle:

"Our tribe don't want you as a leader and never - I say NEVER! - be totally under your command. We will defend our independency to death. Remember this!"

Wise Eagle
sent three of five archer bands back to the capital onto the victory ceremonial. Commander Bloody Hawk was proclaimed general of whole army.
He also ordered to find brave boys around age of sixteen to be a part of army -- two axemen bands were trained.
As caravans from Mio Mitti are moving to Hiawwa, Wise Eagle opened trade caravan to their capital as well.

"On the coast - in the south - tribe of Acadians born. Naval-based tribe with old sea tradition."

As they settled down their fishing and naval skills become more valuable. They are constructing Fishers' hut which may start with old, experienced fishermans which will teach their skills to young boys whose will - one time - continue.
Also to hunt land animals for food, they started construction of Trappers' hut. Experienced hunters will teach younger to hunt and to trait nature with respect and harmony.
Chief also ordered to send canoes to look for other civilizations.

"Here we will found new colony. As gods predicted!"

Hittian shamans had vision of rich city on the coast. Chief send shamans with escorts over island to find that place. After six months of searching, they found it. They founded new colony of Godd.
Also their wise men are still thinking about usage of dirt and mud to harden and make something from them.
In small village of Takko, new bowyer built his hut to construct bows for whole Hittian lands.

"More warriors, more power."

Warriors of Hapalache are known for their fighting skill and bravery. Every young boy in age of six is taken from their parents to training camp far away from civilization and he is trained in fighting. Every year, new soldiers are trained.

"Canoes of Axocutal are of high quality wood. They are crafred by shipmasters with lots of experience aboard. These are capable of travelling much further than other ones."

Axocutal
canoes were sent further South, impressing more people to join. Their colonies are good growing, and research of better moving on sea is continuing.

"So, there we will be for hundreds of years. This is our land. This is land that will feed us. This is the nature we will be living in."

On the east coast in fertile lands - a new culture has born. This tribe is called Mitsukataniana. We know just a little about them, but as they may reach some better known ones, they will become more opened for us.

We are about to go back to central America to see Mio Mitti. Their economy is growing well, as the war with Appans ended.
Their warriors came back to capital and were proclaimed as 1st army.
They are thinking about extending trade routes - more goods, more income.

"Slavery is just punishment for unconfidence. If you are in way of Chuparu, you must accept our culture or you'll be enslaved... Well, no, it's not so serious."

In order of Renata Ren they started construction of Slave Farm. The Slave Farm is basically going to allow for a continued source of labour throughout Chuparu. We will gather a large amount of slaves and they will be put in an area where they can be self sufficient. They will have plenty of land to grow their own food which will not make them a burden on the people of Chuparu. When a Chuparunian citizen wishes to purchase a slave from this farm they may for a reasonable price. The slaves will be guarded by Chuparunian Archers but will have to freedom to do as they wish within their farm so long as it's not creating weapons or harming other slaves until they are sold. This should increase their happiness as they will have some control over their own lives and increase Chupa's Industry as it will have a constant supply of slaves.
As they have met Singodians and signed trade agreement, they sent merchants into Singod to gather their goods. Singodians were impressed by nice furs and gold that merchant from Chupa was carrying.

"We want nothing more than education. Our gods have said that the one, who won't be educated will be -- after his death -- thrown into large pit full of dark and he will be there forever. So everyone in there knows at least basics of nature and life. Even small children."

These strange Msaitians are still thinking about Alphabet. Their tries are in Library, but it's not as they may want. It's still in research time.
In Altumaca, they built Fishers' camp. Every fisher from their tribe is living there and whole fishing industry is situated here.

"Around lake on strange peninsula in the South new tribe has been born."

They are called Mayaimi tribe. Now they are building canals for their strange, but very good canoes to transport goods there. We may know more later... We just know that they are rather than land-based, naval-based tribe.
They have met Tencoatlians on their over-seas expedition. Mayaimian chief asked them to sell them their colony of Jacmio on great island. Tencoatlian chief responsed:

"We won't sell our people. We are not to give you Jacmio. If you want we may stop expansion on that island for reasonable price (1 EP)."

Tencoatlians have expanded lightly, but their economy grown a lot now. They have built shamans hut in capital of Tencoatl. He is now like first aid in capital.

"Sad message for people of Cheyenne... Our chief, Thunder Cloud, died. After speculations who will be new chief, we know that it's Swift Deer, who was assuming Thunder Clouds position when he was ill."

After that incident many people came on his burial. Confidence dropped down a bit, because of changing leaders.
Many people are rebellious and are leaving Cheyenne lands. Maybe Swift Deer could change it.
He ordered to start fishing industry on the river they're on.

"They are moving very fast as their soldiers are moving along river with their canoes. People are joining them, usually, with peace and respect."

Dixocoatlians have moved a lot and also founded new colony of Maya, basically it was military camp. Their leader also ordered to construct Blacksmiths hut, which may improve industry in their capital, as it will be first "mass" production.

"Aiken Drumn is still recovering from his wound. There is a lot of chaos in Singodia, someone should do something with it!"

That is true. After great barbarian invasion in Singodia there is lot of chaos. They have built defensive camps along their North border. Also they founded colony of Santigo behind this line to supply their camps with food and other goods.

To: The Hurons:
From: The Mitsukataniana:

As a nearby nation, we would like to set up trade with you.

OOC: How much ep do you gain from a trade?

@sp1023
Stop your diplomacy, you even don't have contact with anyone!
Trade is explained in Rules post:
Trade – Generates EPs. One Trade point, one EP per Update. Trade can be improved by Merchants, whose are going to a foreign town, so that they move on trade route which is possible. You must have Trade Agreement with the nation merchants are going and you could have only one trade route with one city of other nations. Warning! You can’t improve your trade more than the settlement level can hold.
Please post me name of your capital.

@Charles Li
Please, post me map with your starting position, capital name and army/navy you have now.

Another little rules add-on:
  • Settlement size surplus is based on level of Confidence (Rebellious to Resentful > +1; Tolerating to Admiring > +2; Loyal and Steadfast > +3).
  • Settlement size surplus could be more than +3 if you have buildings that improve it.
  • Settlement size surplus is added by Culture (Uncultured to Poor > +1; Basic to Infulential > +2; Great and Overhelming > +3).
  • You can also put EPs into size. 1 EP gives you +1 size in city.

EDIT: Oh, whoops. Scratch that.

@all: Good luck figuring out what the heck Charles Li is saying all the time! :goodjob:
