UNITED STATES ELECTIONS. Washington D.C., United States of America. For the first time since the 1920s, the conservative Democratic Party has won the Presidential elections under President-elect Richard Nixon. With a split in policy between President Eisenhower of the Republican Party and Lyndon Johnson of the Progressive Party, neither of the moderate political parties were capable of winning the election. Furthermore, much of the liberal vote was stolen by the rise of the Socialist Party, playing on the Hispanic vote in many of the new states. Young Fidel Castro, an up and coming Socialist from Cuba, has unified both the old Socialist party and the multitude of smaller Hispanic ones. The new Unified Socialists of America have called for extensive welfare reforms along the lines of Scandinavia and closer ties with the Soviet Union.

SPECIAL: Great European War
BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC. With over forty assorted divisions and squadrons being deployed from South America to the fighting in Europe, elements of the Kriegsmarine and the South African Navy moved to intercept the convoys. The main engagement was fought at sea when scout planes from the Italian Navy spotted the South Africans moving to intercept. After brutal combat in the skies, the Italian planes, armed with air to air missiles, smashed the bombers and fighters of the South African task group. With their air forces destroyed, the South Africans quickly moved to withdraw, but limited Italian pursuit sunk a carrier and assorted cruisers. The surface fleet was not the only gauntlet the convoys needed to run. German and South African submarines, based out of the Canary Islands, struck at the convoys as they moved to enter the Strait of Gibraltar. Several transports were sunk, but overall the South American forces deployed made it to Europe intact. Foreign observers believe the freshly arrived forces will be deployed at some point in 1961.

FRENCH FRONT. Italian and Free French forces launched a major offensive into southern France after using a nuclear weapon to destroy the regional German headquarters at Marseilles. With the command in disarray, the Italian and French militaries broke German and Iberian lines, driving deep into southern France. The city of Vichy has fallen to the French, and European League forces have threatened to cut Iberia off from the Germans. Basque and Castilian military forces have held the French advance as their supply lines grow shorter, but many fear that with the arrival of fresh troops from the Americas, the front will soon collapse.

Castile: 3 Infantry Divisions
Euskadi: 2 Infantry Divisions
Norway: 1 Infantry Division
Italy: 1 Marine Division, 1 Armored Division
France: 5 Infantry Divisions
ALPS FRONT. A nuclear attack similar to the one on Marseilles was launched outside the ruins of Milan, where German forces also were believed to have established a headquarters. However, with fears of devastation like in France, the headquarters was moved merely hours before the attack. The Germans, Serbs, and Latvians on the Alps Front managed to repulse the Italian advances, and a stalemate has continued in the region.

Germany: 2 Infantry Divisions, 1 Mountain Division
Serbia: 1 Infantry Division

Italy: 2 Militia Divisions, 3 Infantry Divisions, 2 Mountain Divisions, 1 Motorized Division
AMERICAN INCURSION. The United States of America launched a major operation to remove the Pope from Rome to safety in the United States, the nation with the largest Catholic population in the world. Italy moved forces into the Vatican to hold back the American move, but the Swiss Guard managed to hold the city until American helicopters arrived from an off-coast carrier based out of Andalusia. Pope John XXIII has been evacuated to Washington D.C. in order to wait out the war before determining the next move of the Catholic Church, particularly considering the destruction of Rome.
AIRBORNE AND NUCLEAR WARFARE. In the skies war has continued to be a brutal struggle for supremacy. Though Italy maintained air superiority for most of the early part of the year, the development of air to air missiles within Germany has allowed for them to contest the superiority. With aid from their allies, the Luftwaffe have held their own against the Italians and even managed to strike at some of Italys more southern cities. Shortly after Operation Archangel, the removal of the Pope from Rome, the city was struck by a daring German raid which dropped a nuke and leveled the city. The raid had heavy casualties, but the Italian successor to Mussolini was killed in the blast, leaving the remains of the Italian nation in the control of General Alfredo Guzzoni, the head of the Italian military. Other German raids hit the cities of Naples and Palermo, striking across the Mediterranean Sea from Castile. The European League managed to hit the German city of Frankfurt, when a French partisan convoy was intercepted in the city. Rather than losing the bomb to German authorities the partisans detonated it, killing them and destroying the city. The bomb had a far greater yield than previous weapons and many believe this weapon to have been a hydrogen bomb. An Italian raid group managed to shatter Castilian air defenses and penetrate deep into northern Iberia. However, a navigation error and strong surface to air defenses resulted in the bomb being dropped on Saragossa rather than its target of Burgos. The King has vowed to fight on regardless of Italian terrorism.

@everyone, I have been given some questions regarding projects. I guess in an odd way, I have made a liar of myself. You can do projects, such as the 10-year plan currently ongoing in the Soviet Union or the Autobahn Project in the CSA. Just tell me what you want to do, and Ill tell you the cost and time.
@a_propagandist, 4 IC for 4 years should achieve most of your goals.
I have given the Tuareg Confederation Cretes color in order to allow the Free French forces to maintain their prewar color.
