Civ4 Beyond the Sword Patch v3.17 is out

I guess it depends on whether the requests to DoW come during your turn or the AI's turn. I know it looks like all requests happen during your turn, but does anyone know for sure? Do all AIs move, and then you get all AI requests? I play with moves not shown, so it's hard for me to tell. It does seem like I get all requests stacked at one time during my turn, though.

If they come during your turn, does that also mean that if you accept a tech trade from an AI, the AI won't get to take advantage of the tech during the turn they made the request?

When you play a normal game, the human player moves first. Then, when you press enter, all the other civs move in the order that they are in in the the world builder list of civs. After they have moved, then the next turn begins and you get to move. So in theory, the two civs that declared war on eachother can both send a message to you asking you to take part in the same turn.

If you play a scenario, you get to go when all the civs above you in the list of civs that you select your civ from whilst setting up the game have gone. So if you choose the civ at the bottom of the list, all the AIs get to move before you. When you start the game they will all have cities founded, but you don't.

Yes, but my question is, do the requests for trade and demands to DoW happen during your turn or during the AI's turn?

In the following sequence of events, when do the requests come in, the bold ones (3 and 5) or italicized ones (7 and 8)?

  1. Player's turn ends.
  2. Monty wants player to DoW Mansa; makes request.
  3. Player gets request from Monty, accepts
  4. Mansa wants player to DoW Monty; makes request.
  5. Player gets request from Mansa, declines
  6. Player's turn starts.
  7. Player gets request from Monty, accepts
  8. Player gets request from Mansa, declines
If the requests come in during the AI's turn, that means that the player would be at war with Mansa when Mansa decided to request a DoW from the player. However, given that the player just DoW'd Mansa, Mansa should refuse to talk and not make the request.

That people have seen two requests come in the same turn tells me that the requests are queued up to all happen during the player's turn. Thus, techs and other trades initiated by the AI should not take effect for the AI until the AI's next turn.

This is all waaaay off topic, though fun to discuss. :)

BTS was having problems downloading the patch so I did it manually. However, I am unsure of where to extract the files to to. Help, please.

Great, thanks.
Hmm, it says the file is corrupt and it doesn't complete the operation. Should I re-download the patch?
Edit- Nevermind, fixed.

So I edited global warming out of my game before 3.17. Will it be back now I've installed 3.17? I haven't played to that point yet....

Is this normal I clicked install and a progress bar didn't show up and so im still in front of the advanced menu and if I click anything it says "you may not proceed until the patching process is complete"?

seemingly...

I downloaded it, now how do I install it?

You can cancel the in-game update process (has not worked for many people) and download it from links in the first post to this thread.

After you download the patch, unzip the single EXE file inside, double-click it and following the instructions.

Hey, so this question may have been asked before but, after installing the patch, the game works, however, the units all become single animations and are gigantic. I haven't changed any settings and I made sure that single unit animation wasn't checked and that the resolution was the same. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Go into options and uncheck 'single unit graphics', and change any other options you want. When you install the patch a lot of the options are changed.

All mounted units apparently now cause serious collateral damage... is this a good idea?

Thanks for responding. I've made sure that it's unchecked. The problem is that the units don't even look like they would under "single unit graphics," rather, they as well as resources and tribal villages are larger, relative to the terrain, than they are normally. This has only happened since the installation of the latest patch.

Is there a Bug thread for this? I keep getting a "Civ4 will not run" message each time I load - but Civ runs fine.:crazyeye:

that sounds like the adventure mod settings from Fall from Heaven.
Take a look into your game.ini under game options you have to set the 24th or 25th digit to 0
