There may have been a mis-understanding. I didn't want this to be a formal NES game, but I didn't want it to be a LOLZ thread either. The desired outcome is something realistic.

I will continue for now. Certain names and details will be changed though!

What's this madness? What was your old name? I swear, I didn't notice any similarity past starting in China. I just named mine the way I did because I got done watching Code Geass and man, the Tianzi is insanely cute.

@LightFang, yes nice pic :) but its not helped anyone take this thread seriously :(

And here I place the obligatory reminder about updating your other NES...

Noted :)

Fuschia said:
Also, make sure to have a host of NPC cultures, as the stats aren't very difficult to make. It would make the game infinitely more interesting. Infinitely. Like one divided by zero.

I don't intend to list any stats at all, beyond what tribes/kingdoms belong to what player. Everything needed will be on the map.

------> Starting update now. Please delay any culture-related postings until after era#1 is posted.

Strangely delayed crosspost.

Era 1: The Tribal Era

Map:
Spoiler MAP :

Earth-Blank-Northern-D2age1.png

(Darker areas are the most settled lands. Colours will appear on the map when centralised states emerge.)

Not much is known about the time from the end of the Ice-Age to the dawn of civilization. The biggest change was the appearance of a settled, farming lifestyle, which began to take hold in some key areas. This seems strange, considering that hunter-gathering was an easier and healthier way of life. But farming allowed more people to gather in smaller territories, and under the control of a hierarchical society, their combined strength could be harnessed for building monuments, or waging war...

So, there came to be four cradles of civilization, dependent on farming. In Central America, the Talikanan culture led the way. Early Talikanan peoples left behind mysterious stone monuments from this time. The Talikanan sometimes fought with the Oltaxl tribes of the Yucatan coast. Although far less 'civilized', the Oltaxl were already keen seafares, and are believed to have had contacts with the Carribean islands and beyond.

The fertile crescent of the middle-east was home to the Ummites and Pargians. The Pargians are believed to have invaded the upper Nile from somewhere in near Asia, and soon displaced or assimilated local cultures. The Pargians embraced farming, but they were also a warlike culture. With a need for greater manpower and organisation to wage their wars, their chiefdoms were slowly coming together to form larger and larger territories. By contrast, the Ummites were far less aggressive. Like the Agrians, they focused on farming and building towns, but unlike the Agrians they were spared any serious invasions from outsiders. It is believed the Ummite script was being invented at this time, probably as a means of keeping track of the tribute that the peasants had to their rulers.

In the Indus valley, the Agrian culture prospered for a time, and would have perhaps become the most sophisticated, if not for the invasions of the Kramtoban tribes. The Agrians had a larger population, thanks to the early appearance of farming in the lower Indus, but could not defeat a culture that was solely dedicated to war. After centuries of raiding and killing, some of the Kramtob tribes came to rule over the Agrian lands themselves, starting a mixed-culture dynasty. Kramtobans now held power over all of the Indus valley, but centuries of fighting had taken a toll on their own population, which never matched that of the southern Agrians.

In East Asia, the Yueren culture had the most sophisticated of the early scripts. Unlike the Ummite script, it had nothing to do with farming, which was not yet embraced as much as it was in the west. Instead, the script was believed to have been born from the need to keep track of time and plan religious festivals on certain days. Later, the symbols developed more complex mystical meanings. The Yueren had deep religious beliefs which influenced many surrounding tribes, far beyond the Yueren's own borders. The Yueren were later threatened by the nomadic Hsin-Yuan tribes who had migrated from the north-east. Further south, the Tianshi tribes were another strong presence. The Tianshi were just as warlike as they were mystical, their culture spread both by passive influence and by force.

Across the rest of the world, countless other tribes and cultures roamed. Sometimes they made use of farming, but never came to rely upon it. They remained strong and waited for their chance to make history...

Its now around 4000 BC.

Achievements:
The Yueren can claim the first and most sophisticated script, though it is not a true written language yet.

The Pargians can claim the best organised, most centralised style of leadership at this time, though again it has not yet led to a true centralised kingdom.

In Europe, the 'barbaric' Bohemian tribes had a strange fascination with certain stones. They may have been the first to make use of copper, although this metal had little use compared to the Bronze and Iron which would come later.

The boats of the Arlitans enabled them to spread their influence across the Agean and to parts of the Eastern Mediterranean, where their designs were eventually copied by the more 'civilized' peoples, especially the Smaran islanders, with the end result of encouraging much more coastal trade.

Cultures and Factions:
Washagon tribes: Bestshot9
Pargian chiefdoms: Neverwonagame3
Agrian farming peoples: Luckymoose
Yueren tribes: kkmo
Kramtob tribes: Ninja Dude
Kramto-Agrian nobles: Ninja Dude
Oltaxl tribes: BananaLee
Tianshi tribes: LightFang
Bohemian tribes: honzas_cz
Smarans: flyingchicken
Arlitans: Fuschia
Xanto: Nick014
Hsin Yuan: Charles Li
The rest: NPC.

It can be assumed that there are tribes all over the place. They will get names on the map as and when they become relevant.

Notes:
@Luckymoose, the Agrian people have no options for military or political stuff at this time, apart from trying to overthrow their masters.
@Ninja Dude, likewise Kramto-Agrian nobles have no options for cultural/technological stuff. But the northern Kramtob tribes are separate and you can give instructions for them also.
@Charles Li, horseback riding may be a long time way, we don't even have chariots yet :(
@All, yes some cultures didn't get any mention, and future eras may have even less detail. This isn't working out how I imagined (not anyone else's fault) but I will continue for now if there is still any interest.

Next Era:
Era 2 will be the Birth of Civilization. It will be possible for settled peoples to gather into cities and city-states. Some cultures may remain as strong nomadic tribes and make long migrations. Other cultures could be somewhere in-between. The domestication of horses may spread from the western steppe to the middle east and beyond, while copper and bronze-working could be discovered in any of the cradles of the Old World. Of course, there could also be written language, laws, and great monuments.

Please feel free to give any kind of input you want. Names of great cities and leaders could also be useful! I will accept PM's if need be, otherwise you can just post in the thread. It would be helpful if you could take a second to boldify the name of your tribe/chiefdom/people, so I know what you are talking about, and can easily find that post again...

Example: said:
Takalikan: in this era, will concentrate on stone carving, building great stone monuments, and a more organised system of monarchy, leading to the great kingdom of Kalikan

New Cultures:
These are still accepted (for new people only). It is possible to start in any of the light-grey areas of the map as a nomadic tribe, or the middle-grey as a more settled culture. The darkest grey is land that is occupied by another settled culture, but has no centralised states yet. Alternatively, any NPC's can be taken over.

Staring point:
Description: (a few words would do)
Priorities:

I intend to post Era #2 tomorrow, around the time I posted this post today.

And I forgot to say thanks for all the contributions to this so far. So, thanks :) And cultures are quite nicely spread across the world, too.

The priority of the Pargians will be the establishment of as large as possible an empire in NOMINAL size (only counting areas which pay at least lip service to it). It doesn't have to actually exist in practice.

EDIT:

Nation Names: Pargian Empire (for the state which nominally rules all Pargia), Hekroi, Teswain, Hanhein, Chakes, Lothwein

Person Names: Any nation name (including Pargian Empire) for a ruler of it (plus a number to designate their order), for non-rulers: Pichen, Hanhan, Jonsar, Mensar

Kramtob Tribes will continue to venture south along the river enslaving those they come across. If they get to the coast, expand along that too. Due to the violent nature of the Kramtob they will eventually start to splinter into different countries, each vying for control of slaves and land.

Some country names you can use: Krabot, Skilk, Skrork, Krilik. If any of these are actually real-life names, you may change them to make them acceptable.

I can't really think of any person names at the time, sorry.

If I can still join, I'd like to be a breakout and start in Madagascar.

Culture name: Zul
Staring point: Northern Madagascar
Description: A culture that found itself stuck in Madagascar, they are adept boat-builders and the water is like a second home for them. Often they have rumors of a very large land on the other side of the Western Sea.
Priorities: Boat-building (highest) fishing (pretty darn high) exploration (specifically of mainland Africa, about same priority as fishing) religion (not super high, about mid-important.)

Awww.. My name got changed. I figured being able to use ! and clicks in the language would make it more fun. ;)

So here we go, the Oltaxl will settle on the Yucatan Peninsula and develop a oligarchic political system. the Roboi has been displaced by a leading council of several "judges" who effectively rule in the city of Teoxihuitl.
These judges claim to represent the will of the gods of a religion based around the sea and coming of age rituals are created to include sailing to a faraway land.
The Oltaxl (a word now used to mean "people") conduct occasional raids for women and tools on the Takalikan.

Culture name: Amestris
Starting point: Modern-day St. Petersburg
Description: The Amestrians are a hardy people, hunter-gatherers through and through, with a solid leadership system composed of a single chief.
Priorities: Expand the tribes, develop culture.

Nice update ...

The Bohemians will still focus on mining and metal crafting. Also main point is to centralise power into hands of one leader. These should form small confederacies of mining-villages. -> So mainly start using farming and herding. Settle down at the river sides. Form simple cities.

Nation Names: Čechy (Bohemia), Morava (Moravia), Slezsko (Silesia)

Person Names: Jan, Jiři, Petr, František, Zikmund, Karel, Ludvík

the Xanto focus on bringing in more and more food from hunting the great buffalo herds across the North American Plains. Status in society is determined by success in the hunt. Small villages begin to form for protection from neighboring tribes.

Culture Name: Seshegi
Starting Point: East of the black sea
Description: Nomadic tribe, somehow numerous. Lives off taking tolls of nearby tribes. Some parts of the Seshegi culture are settling down in small villages (Mostly fishermen and some farmers), but only to be taxated by the Seshegi nomads themselves, as only the nomads have an effecient military. The common faith is ordinarily Pagan.
Priorities: The nomads aim to subjugate more tribes into their taxation system - as they are becoming much more numerous, they want more people to give them food. This is done through conquest. The settled farmers are attempting to build towns and develop them so that people can survive easier, although in the future they might want to be so developed that they can fight back the nomad taxators.

No! Horse back came first to the Normalic fighters. Read the book 'Soul of the Sword' an adult section book. It tells it all!

Culture Name: Yueren
Starting Point: China
Description: The Yueren focus on language and culture, though the ancient ways of limiting themselves to peaceful lives has been interrupted by local threats.
Priorities: Using their wide cultural influence, the Yueren have begun to utilize their culture for trading purposes, attempting to extract wealth from its neighbors that have adopted certain portions of Yueren's superior culture. In order to expand upon this trade, towns and small cities have been popping up. Bandits and other threats from the regions have also forced Yueren to protect these areas with walls and military might. The creation of an organized military was opposed by many of the druidic leaders at first, but as time went by and the attacks in the surrounding areas were seen as more threatening, the druidic councils began to agree that in order to protect their land and heritage, militaries would have to be formed. They justified this by believing that the mystical Earth deserves protection by those who would save and protect it, and not by those who would ravage it. The Yueren were able to organize a defensive military because of their organized language attempts and their advanced writing techniques. Their language continued to develop during this time, preserving a certain level of elegance and artistic merit.

Important Leaders of this Time

Council Member Jianyu ("Building the Universe"): This man is a genius religious leader of his time. The druidic practices of Yueren are akin to Taoist principles merged with ecological knowledge and horticulture know-how. This is what makes Yueren's farming abilities special. They focus on the land and attempt to extract as much from it as possible, while giving thanks and not doing damage, maintaining the land for further use that yields just as much, if not more. Council Member Jianyu of the Tongi village, a small village that created a great genius, was one of the first to lead Yueren's tribes in the creation of effective agriculture.

Council Member Shoushan ("Longevity Mountain"): This Council Member was the one who originally began to convince others of a need for a military and city walls after he had traveled extensively through the outlying regions, scouting them and mapping them out, placing them in scholarly records. He discovered the presence of less civilized still-nomadic peoples that had been robbing other villages. His reports of bandits and other villains sparked the debate in the druidic councils that led to an agreement that defense must be a priority.

Important Cities/Towns

Shandong: - Becoming the largest city in the region. A port city that specializes in fishing and trading.
Henan: - Becoming the second largest city in the region, inland but on the river, specializing in fishing and trading and becoming a military center.
Nanxun: - Becoming a regional town rich in culture.
Xingan: Becoming a regional town rich in culture.
Wuzhen: Becomnig a regional town rich in culture.

The Agrians will focus on continued farming, and working to improve this, including working with animals. If possible, with a proper population, we will rise up and fight our overlords.

The Hisn will split into 3 groups. One group will attach to the sea. Another will attack north, south, west. The third will spread all over Asia with their horses.

They, as always, are dilligant in everywork.

They, will start to work pieces of bronze. Especially the 2nd group.

They might land in koresa.

They will cultivate rice and use the terrance.

Tianshi: In this era (the rise of civilization), the Tianshi will focus on establishing a central place of sorts to report back successes to. Though not a city per se, they will form a moving "City of Tents" located in the rough middle of their conquests. The original riders will form an aristocracy of sorts (Xue Qi Shi, or Blood Riders). Meanwhile plenty of focus should be given on pillaging the lands and subjugation.

Great Cities
-Mucheng, the City of Tents. Located in the rough middle of their conquests, this is where the head of the tribes resides. It is mobile to some extent, being just a huge area where people have pitched their tents, although it is always near a noticeable landmark to make finding it easier. The old make their way here to serve as Elders. No blood can be spilled inside these borders.

-Xiqu, the Area of Rest. Sometimes, warriors would get tired of raping and pillaging. Some of the tribes apparently had picked up some odd thing called agriculture. Laying down their arms for the most part, some would just rest and cultivate rather than always riding on. Though looked down upon by those who knew of this place, eventually the idea would catch on, although the members still maintained a strict military presence to keep intruders off their land. They were tolerated because they kept areas under Tianshi control. Xiqu is the first such location with a name.

Leaders

-Head Bloodrider Yaochi, the Goblin's Tooth. Led the furious expansion up the river; quite possessed of his quest to subjugate the Earth for Father Sky. It was he that created the City of Tents to better control the lands under their control. Due to his intelligence, he also happened to make great strides in religion; the polytheism was refined, removing much of the importance from the gods who were not Father Sky or Mother Earth. The story was also refined; Mother Earth had rebelled against Father Sky and taken his children from him, driving them deep into the Earth. Her treachery had to be repaid with blood. Therefore, the Tianshi had to conquer the world in order to bring peace back to all. As long as there were bits of land that were free of Father Sky's control, there would be evil and discord in the world.

Bloodrider Kaifeng, the Triumphant Wind. He convinced a good minority of the less prestigious riders and some of the less physically apt bloodriders that a way of peace would do everyone some good. It was he who formed the first Area of Rest, Xiqu, and it was he that realized the value of some good diplomacy with the scattered tribes throughout. Through them he learned some valuable skills about settling down and taught them to the rest.
