Not even I disagree on Math... well, if our economy can handle it. Which it can't.
Well, I obviously started this set with war on my mind. We are boxed in, our economy is FUBAR and we have a big army. The solution is obvious.
We set the axe on its road towards Nidaros, and find 3 turns later Nidaros is not hilled but already on 60%. The garrison is not very big but there are axes roaming around, so I thought I needed a bit more buildup (turned out to be a mistake of mine, the troops I started with would've been more than enough to take Nidaros). Research is set to Math but we don't have an economy to speak of. When I declared we even went negative at 0%.
Several turns later I notice
Ragnar is in WHEOOHRN! I doubt he would be gearing up to attack us (after all we are stronger on the powergraph) but I don't care who he's planning to attack so we can stab him in the back, we don't have that kind of time in our current situation. If he's in troop spam mode anyway I might as well declare war now and march on Nidaros. We're only going to face more Vikings whether we like it or not. I DoW Ragnar, We take several turns to Nidaros, and behold what we find there... Nidaros is blatantly underdefended with an axe, an archer and a chariot! We lose an axe and a sword to the 60% defense bonus but kill the rest of the troops; Nidaros is now ours. Bonus: The granary and lighthouse are still intact.
I press on towards Uppsala which is your typical awkwardly placed AI city - its too close to the coast for my liking. It's heavier defended, I lose several troops to defenders (of course he already built a wall there) but the tide turns against him after losing two axes. Or maybe just because Ragnar is both a literal and a figurative bonehead... I mean, whipping spearmen? We don't even have horses! Or tanks, for that matter :spearman:
I've saved to discuss whether we should take the city or simply burn it. Diamondeye can simply send in the last sword/axe this turn and either keep it or raze it. There's only Haithabu left after that; it's towards the north, near the French border. We also have a settler ready; I sent him towards Sugar City but settling was as of then too big of a risk. There are Vikings lurking around. Kyoto also has a library now (which, as Rolo saw correctly, has been whipped

).
I think we have enough to take out Ragnar and then rebuild our economy... yeah, I didn't do much there. I'm sorry, but when I'm at war every sane thought is blocked out by 'we here, others there, KILL THEM'. When I'm at war I go all the way.
I suggest we run scientists in Kyoto as soon as possible so we get a GS and bulb him. We really need some tradebait at this point to catch up in tech.
