What type of win should i go for with tis one?

Hi guys - ok so i'm in a pretty strong position in this game, actually i think it's time i moved on to noble - but it's only recently that i started winning regularly (after i've been reading up a lot on these forums ), so anyway maybe i will move on after a couple of games.

Onto the actual matter at hand - i have attached the save of the game as it stands, i need your advice on,

1) Which type of victory i should go for - i know given the position i am in i could take my pick but which would be quicker and the most obvious? I am undecided between space race & domination.

2) By looking at my cities any suggestions on areas where i should improve on / could be doing better?

BTW - i just finished a war with Gilmagesh (he has been eliminated from my continent)

Fastest way to win:

-Finish with that excuse of civ that awnsers by the name of Japan. Would be a piece of cake for you as it is and would make capping the other civs far faster.

-Tech Rocketry

-Tech Fission

-meanwhile mine one of the Uranium resources of your continent

-Build Manhattan project ( link the uranium before this, since manhattan is boosted by uranium )

-Change civics to Universal sufrage and set research and espionage to 0%

-$rushbuy + build 20 ICBM

-Drop 5 nukes in each civ

-Vassal everyone

-Win by conquest

Oh , and Saladin is gearing to attack Lincoln ...

Making the kremlin would help with the $rush, but it is not required

I recognise myself, it was not long ago i used to play with that rediciolous tech advantage. Just spend 12 turns researching tanks meanwhile produce a few transports and 1 destroyer/island you plan to invade (I have lost transports filled with tanks to the million galleons that the comps stack up, even the occasional battleship =P). Once you get tanks just switch to 100% waelth so you build an fortune in case you get into truble later. Then just pump tanks in all of your citys and start owninga all the AIs Longbowmans/muskets.

I like rolo's idea, even if that isn't the way I would do it.

I'd probably go for the domination/diplomatic victory.

First, why is Japan still here? Kill him now. Cannons, cavalry and rifles in very small numbers will suffice.

Second, set one of your coastal cities on a mission to build transports. One of the west coast ones can crank them out fairly quickly. You will need about 8 transports, but at least three right away to pick up your troops on the east coast after they take the two mainland Japanese cities to move them over to the two island ones.

3. Set Tiwanaku to build nothing but workers for 15 turns. You can even set them on automate if you would like.

4. Tech towards industrialism, because tanks will be your friends. Also, tech radio and then mass media.

5. Load up your transports with cavalry, tanks, and whatever infantry or marines you have available and set sail for Washington. Declare war. Capture Washington. Accept his capitulation.

6. Load up all the troops and head for Baghdad. Repeat process.

7. Somewhere on the homeland, build the United Nations. Remember to vote for yourself.

8. Load up all the troops and head for Paris. Repeat process.

9. If you haven't already won a domination victory, use the first UN vote to elect yourself world leader.

10. While you are waiting for the UN option, you can always pick up the troops from Paris and send them off to the last guy to capture his capital, which would earn you the conquest victory.

As I had some time to spend , I tried my idea. This is not the best you can acheive, because I lost two turns stupidly to anarchy ( was in a hurry or getting out of Theo and Rep ) and could had started stockpiling cash earlier, so this could had ended earlier atleast 3 turns, most likely more than 8 ( I could had timed better the war starts and the nuke launch as well ).

I think this is definitely the faster way of getting this , given that the OP is already 2 techs away from nukes and that nukes are far more effective bringing the enemy power down ( and putting your up in a world where most of the people is still sporting longbows ). I think I used 22 nukes to win this + 2300 modifieds hammers in wonders ( both were resource boosted ) and roughly 15 k beakers in techs ( i got democracy from a trade )

Any critiques on how my cities have been improved and what i am doing with my cities as it stands?

IU'v decided i'm definitely being too lazy so this gonna be my last warlords game. My next game will be JC on noble.

So any advice before i move on to noble would be very welcome.

Two strong hints:

1. Talk to Saladin and look at the "declare war" trade options. When you mouse over, you'll see why they're all red: "We have enough on our hands". Since he is not currently at war with anyone, he's likely planning a war.
2. Look at the glance screen (F4, one of the options on the bottom of the window). The column to the right with Saladin on top contains Saladin's ratings for the other civs. You can see that he is at -3 with three of them. However, if you mouseover, you'll see that he is only cautious toward the first two but annoyed toward Lincoln. So that is likely who he is targetting. Also he is still trading with the others. I think it's that the heresy is strongest in the Americans (he doesn't like the religions of almost everybody).

Nuclear explosions always look the same Why would you want 22 pics of them ?

Interestingly, the nukes weren't much faster than the way I went about it. I had already taken Sally and Lincoln as vassals by about 15 turns before your victory. At that point I would have loaded up the ships again (combination of tanks, infantry and a few paratroopers) and sailed for Paris. Because it was , each war only lasted one turn. I had also just been elected the head of the UN and was waiting to see if I was going to win the diplomatic victory on the first try.


As far as advice on moving up to noble, I'll throw a few out for you:

1. MORE WORKERS. LOTS more workers. Workers are one of the most powerful units in the game. Do not underestimate them. I set Tiwanaku to auto-build workers (since it could generate one per turn) and had it make a total of 15. I just set them on Automate (which you should not do) because there was just so much land still left to improve. I think there were unimproved grassland tiles around your capital. Advice for Noble: Don't do that. Always try to either have your citizens working improved tiles, or make sure you pull them off the unimproved tiles and make them specialists.

2. Don't forget to take advantage of whatever it is your civilization is good at. For example, as an industrious civilization, it takes half as many hammers to build a forge as it does for other civs. However, you had a few cities without a forge. (Forges are very useful buildings. Not only do they multiply the amount of hammers your city generates, but they also increase the happy faces when you have gold, silver and gems.) If you are industrious, half price forges are a big advantage for you, and you should not only build them in all your cities, but also seriously consider attempting to get Metal Casting from the Oracle wonder really early in the game.

Similarly, if you are an organized civilization next time, don't forget that you get half price courthouses, which will allow you to expand faster early in the game. Many people will try to get Code of Laws from the Oracle in order to take full advantage of the organized trait.

3. Try to focus at least one city on building your military units, and a second coastal city on building a navy. Even if you were planning on being peaceful, you were in a position to build a powerful army and navy by really only using two or three cities.

4. Try to keep your civics more in line with what your empire is doing. With all of those towns and all of that commerce, it made a lot more sense for you to be in Free Religion, Free Speech, Free Market, Emancipation, and Universal Suffrage.

5. You left a LOT of land between city sites. All summed you had probably 20 perfectly good grassland tiles in betwee cities that could had gone easily to filler cities. You also had a perfectly good patch of jungle unused to the west....

I think I could had shaved out atleast 8 turns of the win. I lost 2 turns to anarchy that were avoidable and could had timed better the wonders and the techs ( I think the best to do here was Fission->communism->Rocketry to start manhattan ASAP ) . I also overbuilt for the war with Japan ( planes pwn classical units ) and could had started in wealth grabbing far earlier as well. I also mistimed some of the wars and used one nuke too much on Mehmed.

But the bottom line is that my result is easily improvable. Better call TTMIT for the job

I agree with #5. Lots of good land unused.

I still think nukes were fastest, but conventional went surprisingly quickly. (Also, probably better practice for what is needed for the next level.). I didn't mess around with Toku. Issued the DoW with five cannons, five rifles and four cavalry (and MANY more in the queues.)

I also amused myself by building Guerrilla III rifles as my city raiders for a little while. I forget which city it was that had the settled Great Generals, but it was a very nice military city. I would normally give my 11 XP rifles Combat II and Pinch, but with no gunpowder units on the map, it didn't feel right to do something like combat II and cover or shock (is cover even available to rifles?) So, 50% withdrawal chance it was. Speaking of Great Generals:

6. You probably should have used one of your generals to create a super-medic unit. The basic idea is build a mounted unit (because you want it to have two movement points) with at least 5 XP to give it the Combat I and Medic 1 promotions. Then attach the general at give it the Medic II and Medic III promotions. It is remarkable how much of a difference this makes when you bring this guy along with your city busting stacks. Note that a lot of people prefer to use a very weak unit (like a chariot or even a scout) for this unit. The reason for that is because it will almost never defend counter attacks against your stack, and therefore is unlikely to get killed.

Personally at this point I'd hit menu, quit to main menu, single player, custom game... and start a new one I can never be bothered to mop up!

1) Was i that short of workers??? Wow - I was actually not finding much work for them and was begining to automate most of them. I think it was more of an oversight with some of the tiles not being improved and i definitely tighten that aspect of my game. But were'nt there enough workers around to take care of that.

Actually i think thats one of the problems i have - once i get to the later stages of the game i dont spend too much time / or dont like to spend time on managing my workers.

Was there actually that much stuff left for my workers to do?

2) Noted. Was only putting them in the cities i was using for production + i was worried about health. But yeah it's only -1 health and it makes sense so thanks.

3) I think i got that - my capital was focussed on the military + two of my coastal cities had drydocks. I usually dont focus enough on my navy though and need to improve on that. Also using my capital for military is it bad?

@ Mike - i know it does become a bore at this point, in fact i got bored too and started my first game on noble as JC. but i'm still gonna finish this game off ....
