Have you encountered everyone signing DPs due to the Apostolic Palace? If so, what's a way to break it so you can declare war?

I had it come up in my last game, but luckily one of the AIs, Boudica, declared war for some reason. We were all forced to declare war on her. Possibly bad AI programming. Perhaps she decided to DOW on the same turn the DP resolution was passed.

Try to get your target to declare on someone. Only works if you have good relations. Another choice would be bribing the rest of them to go to war, but that's significantly more expensive.

Everyone is in DP i.e. there is no target that isn't in the DP. Doesn't the AI combine power to determine if DOW is possible?

They do. They will still start the wars they began to plan before the DPs started, though.

You mean all the civs in the world have a DP? If that's the case, wait until one of them cancels their DP with one of the others (it will happen in most games). Right after that you do the same (otherwise they'll they you "Surely you must be joking") and bribe them to war. Or you could always wait until a stupid AI starts a war they were already planning and see all the DPs get cancelled.

I dont think the stupid AI's properly compute the effects of DP's.

In the last game i was playing, i was about third or so on the military power graphs but had DP's with three other civ's who were almost on tech parity, stupid Alex who was on another civ comes along and DoW's me just after i launched my spaceship.

What followed was hilarious, hew had 4 civs at war with him and all of us were way more advanced, his galleons were being anhilated by my destroyers as he could'nt land a single unit on my shores, at home Pacal's tanks were rolling in to take out his hapless Longbows, He finally lands an invading force in Hatty's lands to be taken out in one turn by Hatties and my combined tanks + marines + infantry.

To top it all off i nuke his capital and the fool just capitulates the turn before i win a space race.

In summary - he had no chance in hell but yet he DoW'ed. :D:goodjob:

Shafi: I'm not sure on the actual coding, but I get the feeling that some of the AI have a higher chance of DOW if you're about to win. Alexander had nothing really to lose by declaring war (he was going to lose in 10 or so turns anyway). If someone who actually knows coding could clarify this though?

I was in a situation last week where everyone had DP's with eachother because of the AP. It was a bit annoying since i wanted to get on with my wars. I tried to bribe Bismarck to attack someone (Mansa Musa i think) and to my surprise he accepted.
It wasn't the smartest thing i've seen a AI do. :)
