Fantasy Unit Conversions from Kohan II

I took a look at the units in the pack - Kohan 2 buildings are much higher quality... But still, some are quite good. I started drooling, even though they do not match SeZ quality ;)

Any chance to get golshai converted right after storm dragon? I have the exact place for it... with some colour changes it will be perfect for the unit I am adding in the next version of my mod.

But tutorial is a great idea. I might even try to convert a unit using it if I find time to take a break from coding.

P.S.
Any plans for the juggernaut? :mischief:

I've already started on it. I would like to make one of the strike animations a ice/fire/poison/whatever breath animation since the Storm Drake's Cast animation looks like it can be adapted - we'll see how that works out.

Another idea I had: once the Storm Drake animations are done I could try rigging the existing FFH2 dragons to this armature - a flying dragon that rains down fire from above could be pretty cool... :)

In general, the possibilities of adapting these units and/or combining them with some of the existing FFH2 content could be quite exciting.

That would be an excellent idea.

The Tech constructs are just reskins of the same unit which is a bit boring. If I wanted to make a varied set of elementals I would probably use the Ifrit for Fire, the Trow for Earth, the Jotun for Ice, and the Construct for Iron/Gold. Making a bluish, translucent version of Golshan with some nice additional effect could make a good Air elemental.

Yeah, I quite like the Snow Elks and the Snow Owl could be good also.

Hmm... I didn't particularly like the Trow, but yeah, I agree on the rest.

I like the Snow Owl, the Elk has a rather angular chest... But that can be lived with.

I've been thinking the same thing. The number of units that people want means that a collaborative approach would help get them done quicker. The conversion process is quite complex, but if I take a relatively simple unit and walk through the steps then other people should be able to follow it. A tutorial could also help with getting more people familiar with animating with Blender, editing existing animations, etc.

The first stage in my process does involve 'cleaning' the unit meshes and animations using 3DS Max 7 - but I can do this and post the cleansed files for those that don't have Max.

After I've converted the Storm Drake - I will pick a nice simple (non-flying) unit and post a detailed tutorial as I work through the conversion.

I personally still wouldn't be able to do much (My abilities were strained just duplicating an existing improvement, so I could have several of them on one tile), but I think it would be a great idea; Maybe the Juggernaut? Seems to be a simple one.

I would try to convert some, no idea whether I could or not though :P

Reskinning is a LOT easier, but I'm not the best at that.

Yeah, I'll help in any way I can if Deliverator makes his tutorial.

I'll try and do the tutorial at the weekend. People will need either 3DS Max or Blender as well as NifSkope to edit the animations. Editing the animations so that they work in Civ 4 is really the main part of the conversion.

I've run into some issues with the Storm Drake death animations, but I think I should be able to finish that at the weekend too hopefully.

I hope you get that Golshan unit out soon, unless you can just send me a nif for it, I plan on making her into a Priestess of Ba'al. Good work on this stuff though, it looks amazing. :goodjob:

Deliverator, you said at the very beginning of this thread."If people are looking for a particular kind of fantasy unit I can have a look through and see if there is anything of that kind."
So can I ask for some units too, indipendet if it excists or not and you'll creat them?

No, I'm fairly sure all that means is that you can ask if a unittype is in the game, and he'll try and provide it.

OK Valkironn.
Deliverator can you tell me what other Dragon Units, aside the Storm Drake, are there in Kohan II.

Well these Storm Drakes have been more work than I anticipated - mostly trying to get the death animations to behave. I'm finally getting somewhere now. A couple of work in progress shots...

Post #31 contains a link to all units (not just the not just the ones in the first post), so you can start working on the priestess :)
