Before I officially begin, there are a couple of points Id like to make.
1) I have never played on Demigod before. Ever. For someone who has only two Emperor level wins, this is quite a leap.
2) This Civil War is an always war game. Somewhere (though I forget where) I read that people usually play AW games two levels below their average difficulty. I am completely ignoring this good advice by playing two levels over my personal average.
Advice regarding my play will be welcomed. But enough talk, time to play

Chapter V: The Celtic Civil War
Part 2: Spam in the Form of Units
On March 8, 270 AD Arminius of the Loyalist Army marched a force of 6000 trained horsemen to Richborough, the capital of the Republican faction. The horsemen used by Arminius were trained by some of the same people who taught the soldiers of the Celtic Army.
To defend against this threat, the Republicans sent 3200 Heavy Infantry and 800 Musketmen to the front. Arminius led his personal 4000 man army from the center flanked by two other Military Cavalry Divisions. He quickly split the Republican center into three groups and slaughtered them, losing only 600 men.
On the flanks however, the Loyalists were faring much worse. The 5th Military Cavalry Division lost more than half its men; but ultimately was able to overwhelm the 800 Heavy Infantry that it faced. On the right flank, the 6th Military Cavalry had lost its commander early, and without leadership, lost 800 men. However, the son of Celtic Army general Vercingetorix was part of the 6th Divisions officer corps. Through tactics he was able to cut down a full division of Heavy Infantry. By the end of the day the Republicans had lost 4000 men to the Loyalists 2000 losses.
The son of Vercingetorix was given command of 4000 loyalist knights. Less than a week after receiving his command, he launched an attack on Richborough, killing 1600 Heavy Infantry while losing 800 knights. The assault was followed two days later by an attack that included 5000 knights, who lost 2200 but killed 2400. These were to be the last attacks on Richborough for several months because of the lack of Loyalist forces.
Elsewhere in Africa, the Loyalists besieged and captured the Traditionalist city of Eboracum, losing just 600 men.
In the east, the Loyalists marched 5000 Infantry and 8000 knights towards the Indian city of Verulaminium. But the main action besides Richborough was the 2000 man attack on Madras.
Madras was a strategically important city to the Loyalists and the other factions. It was the only route that was clear of Jungle to the Loyalist core, and could act as a funnel for Militarist, Japanese, and Indian armies. The 1st and 2nd Royal Cavalry Divisions charged straight at the 400 defending War Elephants. At first, the horses of the Loyalists feared the 11-foot tall elephant, but after several hours of fighting all 400 lay dead. The death toll for the Loyalists was also high, 1000 cavalry were killed by the stampeding elephants. But the Loyalists had succeeded as they occupied the city. To reinforce the relatively weak garrison, King Brennus ordered 5 divisions into the city.
IBT-
The Indians bombard my infantry on the mountain, causing minimal damage. This is followed by 6 War Elephants and 3 Longbows attacking my stack of 8 knights on the hill NW of Verulaminium, during which I get another leader!
Unfortunately, the Traditionalists join the party with 8 Gallic Axemen and the stack is obliterated, including my new leader. But the damage had been done, I no longer will have to fight my way through all those War Elephants.
In other news, the Militarists send a mercenary and a skirmisher to Madras. Oh yeah, the Republicans take Agedincum on the coast of the Mediterranean from the Feudalists.
And now back to our regularly scheduled Civil War!
********************
On July 24, 270 AD, the Loyalist armies returned to Richborough. Arminius charged his army straight at the city as the Republicans opened the city gates to let their troops out. In the battle that ensued, the Republicans lost 800 Heavy Infantry and 1800 Longbowmen. The only positive note for the Republicans was that their Senate escaped the city mostly intact.
Shortly after the victory, the 2nd Knight Division wiped out a group of 600 Longbowmen who were randomly sitting outside the city.
Outside of Madras a week later, another leader, the son of Orgetorix, arose. He was part of a largely failed mission that killed 2000 Militarists, but left 1800 Loyalist soldiers dead. After his victory, he was summoned by King Brennus and ordered to lead an army of 3000 Knights and 1000 Royal Cavalry.
Around the same time as Madras, 4000 Infantry attacked the Indian city of Verulaminium. The Indian Army was diverse in weapons, with 600 muskets, 250 War Elephants, and 600 Longbows. After 4 attacks, the Loyalists finally managed to secure the city and destroy the Indian fleet anchored in the city harbor. During the battle, a common soldier rose to become a great leader of the Loyalists and was, like the sons of Vercingetorix and Orgetorix, given control of an army.
Also, a light in the darkness of the Civil War, the time known as the Golden Age of the Loyalists began.
IBT- South of Madras, I lose the 18th Infantry and the 2nd Royal Cavalry. They kill one knight and do considerable damage to two others. Three Militarist skirmishers move into the tile SW of the city.
Meanwhile, off the coast of the city, my fleet of Light Frigates destroys two Militarist Light Frigates. The KBS Alesia and the KBS Lugdunum are damaged in the battle.
But during all of this, Verulaminium is being spammed with units. Six Arabian Cavalry, five War Elephants, a Traditionalist Gallic Axeman, and the fleets of the Arabs and Traditionalists arrive at the city. Oh joy
