Secura
Chieftain
I have to say that I felt my personal goal was inane, to say the very least, and felt almost impossible to acquire without serious metagaming or some sort of change to the ability.
Being a one-use ability, I had to second-guess when the mafia were going to attack Padme... if I used the ability on a night she wasn't attacked then it was gone, same as if I wasted it on someone that wasn't Padme. That's pretty much what 'one-use' means, at least.
So I had to find Padme, which wasn't easy, as we weren't masonic like Han/Chewie, and as Captain Panaka (total niche role, alot of people I spoke to had to Wookieepedia him!) I wasn't trusted one jot (being a newbie probably added to this), which made things that much harder. Eventually, Romanic learned from RRRaskolnikov that TFA was Padme, whereby I sent him a PM about who I was and my goal... and received no response, so that closed that avenue for me, which was utterly frustrating.
It felt like the only way I could ensure I would know Padme was going to be attacked was to orchestrate that attack myself, either by asking a town role to attack her (but that would make me even more suspicious, no?) or setting a bounty on her, but by the time I was allowed to know who Padme was, the bounty hunters were all dead! So no luck there either.
So what would happen if I had successfully protected Padme from death? Yep, I'd die myself... while I think that this is a novel approach to the doctor role, I don't think it has it's proper place in a mafia game. Besides, if I die protected Padme one night, what happens to her the next? Logically, she would be attacked again (someone dies to save TFA, must mean TFA is important, right?), making my sacrifice utterly futile in the grand scheme of things. Factor in that RRRaskolnikov informed me Padme had alternative protection that wasn't expended like myself (likely a Jedi) and it just felt like an utterly futile venture and a largely unachievable personal goal.
While I struggled to integrate with the game at first, partly due to being a greenhorn, partly due to the role, I got into my stride somewhat at the end; I am by no means a lurker or selfish player (fellow Orgahs might say I'm too nice ¬_¬), and it was always going to be incredibly uncharacteristic of me to fulfill my own personal goal at the expense of the town losing a vote and me no longer being a part of the game... I'm a team-player first and foremost, and having spoken to several people about the role (both players of the game, hosts of other games and so on), I concluded that the cons for the ability and personal goal far, far outweighed the potential gains and opted agianst it.
Essentially, what I'm saying is that if you think some people had their role hard, then you ought to have played as Captain Panaka; some people might jump at the chance to sign up to a game and get themselves out of it within seconds of it starting (Jar Jar Binks, anyone?), but I'm not one of them.
Just thought I would put that point across as the only person to survive to end-game and still come out with nothing. :3
Queen's Guard: Once in the game, you may protect Padme Amidala. If she is attacked while you are protecting her, you will die in her place.
