We publicly decry the Japanese as savages and mass murderers(then again, they've been this way a long time coming, and so we eagerly await the destruction of their leadership), and decommission enough nukes so we only have 5.

Riots have intensified in New England and the Soviet Union. Dissenters have led to the total shutdown of some cities.
Starting to feel the heat? You may be able to scavenge your world standing by signing a non-proliferation treaty.
Henceforth, players may now launch strategic strikes against hostile missiles directly.
Such an attack has a 25% chance of detonating the warhead and contaminating the host territory. Reputation is only impacted if fallout is triggered.

The German Republic has taken upon the project known as Atoms for Peace. The project aims to convert decommissioned nuclear materials into usable nuclear fuels for nuclear power plants.
The German Republic decommissions one nuke and converts it to nuclear fuel for it's power plants. Due to the complex nature of atomic weapons trading, we cannot accept any nuclear weapons for use in decommissionioning. However, we will aid other nations that show an interest in decommissioning there nuclear weapons into usable fuel for nuclear energy.
The German Republic hopes to see other nations take an interest in Atoms for Peace. Though signing a nuclear non-proliferation treaty is strongly recommended.

The USSR Dissolves!
With vast tracts of the country a nuclear wasteland, and the rest depopulated and rendered destitute by war, civil strife and famine, a multi-ethnic mob of all political affiliations stormed the Soviet Government buildings/bunkers in Islamabad, declaring the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics dissolved, then began killing each other.
The Soviet Government, in its last act, ordered the decommission of all nuclear missiles, but Soviet separatists ignored the order and seized the nuclear missile, vowing to destroy the capitalists who brought about the fall of the USSR. They ordered the rest of the missiles to be fired at Macedon. All the remaining nukes will be fired at Macedon each turn. Consider all nuclear strikes confirmed
The country has now broken up into many independent states, and civil conflict makes it likely that more states will rebelled and secede from them. The former Premier is now in hiding in a bomb shelter somewhere in Kashmir and reportedly became a Buddhist monk. His last message to the outside world calling for peace but predicting that the world will enter a new nuclear-induced Dark Age of chaos, poverty and barbarism.
Iskandar Mirza, the former leader of Kashmir SSR, declared himself King Iskandar I of the reestablished Kingdom of Kashmir. One of the more prosperous and stable of the successor states, it has declared complete neutrality in all conflicts and sealed its borders and saving what they can of Indian and Soviet cultural treasures. The King has ordered the construction of vaults around the country to stash these as well as food, weapons and provide shelter for the populace from the global radioactive fallout. Kashmir inherited a great deal of the Soviet arsenal and its population are armed to the teeth in case of any invasion.
From now on I'll only be playing as Kashmir. I'd still be checking in the thread but in case I don't here's the automated policies

We de-commission yet another nuke, and announce our goal of friendship and respect to all the Soviet successor states. The aggressive NEA and Japanese now stand alone; we hope the NEA will see reason and end the war, considering the bulk of their population has been vaporised or severely debilitated.

Since I don't even remember who I had been at war with, can I just be considered to be out of all wars? If so, I want more of Central America.
