Mafia: Information, Announcements, and Discussion

Since Gangland Wars is close to finishing and the only people ready with large games aren't available to host right now, I can whip up an idea I have pretty quickly (or I could do some sort of re-run of the Chamber, if you so wish).

Anyone opposed to me starting a sign-up thread? I feel guilty about how I've been hosting so many games here recently, so if anyone else wants to go, be my guest.

Whoever's going next will be running the first Mafia game (not counting NotW) that I'll be playing in, I only discovered the forumgames section recently and I really like this idea :)

And then I have an idea of my own. This'll give me the expreience I need to run it :D

Count me in for when I get back, since I've suddenly died in two games all at once.

Welcome to Mafia!

btw, it's recommended to play a mafia game first before you run one, just to show you the logistics of the game.

I know; that's what I meant. :)

I would like to share my thoughts on some things concerning scumtells, particularly those I perceive to be vastly overrated as being "scummy" behavior.

Spoiler :
Null tells

I believe that these don't really indicate whether or not someone is scum or innocent.

  • Voting someone else to be lynched in order to save yourself
  • Vote-hopping
  • Pretty much anything done on Day 1
  • Posting from a cell phone, although I'm not sure if this was ever serious
  • Having the username Zack
  • Voting yourself
Very weak

  • WIFOM
  • Ellipses

Having the username Zack
Well, yes, I've scanned you as scum…

I think you're taking your lynching a tad too seriously. The point wasn't that you were looking like definite scum, just that slightly scummy behaviour made you a better target than a complete random. Vote hopping could be scummy in some circumstances, as can ever so slightly sus activity on day one. Posting from a cell phone isn't scummy activity, but coming up with needless excuses for things can be.

Hai Gais!

I got lynched on round "two" (really, one, since round one literally did not count) of Visions of the Animus while correctly voting, calling for a bandwagon, and nearly lynching the head scumbag. I was lynched based on things like:

  • I advocated a low-vote strategy, then changed my mind.
  • I used an OMGUS vote.
  • I voted for myself in frustration.
  • "I want a song too, ATPG"
  • "Your post hurts my eyes"

Frustrating and dumbfounding stuff happens on Day One all the time. Yet, as that game and several others show, day one activities can be useful if people apply themselves and not stereotype too much. Except maybe in jest.

I hope nobody takes this stuff too seriously. Day One is basically Fail One, unless someone gets very lucky.

If it was because of that lynch, I would have posted it right after I was lynched.
