for the record, the federation doesn't care for anythign of the above.
"Woof! Woof!"

"What's that, Sparky? The Federation of the Savanna doesn't care about genocide?"

"Woof! Woof!"

"You think it's because they're perpetrating it right now?!"

"Woof! Woof!"

"Well holy crap, we gotta get ON this!!"

It took me an hour to do this?! What?!

nice one Thorvald. but we don't care cause we really cant do anything about it. we are breaking our backs here trying to modernize the nation, and there still isn't much improvement.

anyway, there are other countries better able to deal with this.

and no, we aren't committing genocide. too expensive with no clear benefits.

...brilliant, Thorvald. I cracked up very hard. If not for it being metagaming, I'd award the Hetmanate 1 billion dollars.

Today, the Federation of Petrograd was shaken by three more explosions within their state. The first, in the city of Askrakhan', was placed in a police station in an impoverished majority-Kaetif area. Casualties are currently at 65 dead, although the breakdown of human/Kaetif tragedies is unknown. The second, again in the city of Petrograd, was detonated in the underground metro system. Casualties yet unknown. A third was detonated in a fuel station in the city of Perm'. About an hour before each blast, the Ministry of Interrogation received a telephone call from a group known as the Macau Independence Liberation Front. A forth bomb threat in the city of T'ver was found to be a hoax by investigating agents.

Speculation over the motives for each target has varied, although it looks as though the Astrakhan' blast was formulated to do further harm to the already strained relations Petrograd has with the Marian Federation. The Perm' explosion looked to be representative of rising tensions over oil prices - particularly after the destruction of many of Petrograd's oil-producing and refining regions.

The biggest question on the M.o.Itrr.'s list is just who is funding these rebels...

The logic still remains; why should we have to pay to protect authoritarian moral values?

In line with the doctrine of self-responsibility, prohibition should be paid for by prohibionists. Would it be right to ask the Prohibitionist nations to pay for our addicts' rehabilitation programs? (Not that there are many addicts, but still)
It is your duty as a trading member of the international community to prevent illegal trade from occurring between or through those in your nation towards any others.

Humans do enjoy a larger incarceration rate, but this is largely because the dire economic circumstances rather than any actual bias.

The most racist policy in our nation's history was the legalisation of human abortion. This has been changed so abortion's legality is based on financial need rather than race.
This is just a change from overt to covert racism. It still affects mostly humans in a way the Marians deem negative. In the first sentence, you admit that this would mostly affect humans.

Hong Kong hopes that the refugees are not causeing undue turmoil, and would be happy to have them returned if you are worried about them proving a potential threat. We are sure we could find some secure quarters for them...

Petrograd thanks the Premier of Hong Kong for his support, although the emigrants shall for the time being remain in Petrograd.

The Hetmanate will provide whatever intelligence services Petrograd requires in investigating this act of terrorism.
Petrograd thanks its close Hetmanate brothers for its support, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

for the record, the federation doesn't care for anythign of the above.

How very droll...

but we don't care cause we really cant do anything about it. we are breaking our backs here trying to modernize the nation, and there still isn't much improvement.
So your country cannot handle having an opinion on two things at once yet you can voice lack of interest in such issues due to not following them? Petrograd finds this hard to believe.

anyway, there are other countries better able to deal with this.
Support of words is still support.

How does the Marian Republic feel about the common man's (well, common being's in your case) right to bear arms?

If Macau's freedom fighters are so dense as to bomb Petrograd rather than Hong Kong, which is occupying the city, maybe Macau isn't worthy of independence...

We'd be wary of drug cartels. They are not happy with the legal businesses which they compete against. That we haven't seen any violence in our nation on the issue is a blessing, but we wouldn't be surprised if other states pondering legalisation faced aggression; legalisation would destroy drug rings' market share.

It is your duty as a trading member of the international community to prevent illegal trade from occurring between or through those in your nation towards any others.

Oh, drug smuggling rings are still busted and their members given appropriate sentences. We are merely not checking for drugs anymore at the border; it is wasteful to do it twice. Let those with the concern about drugs do the checking on their side.

This is just a change from overt to covert racism. It still affects mostly humans in a way the Marians deem negative. In the first sentence, you admit that this would mostly affect humans.

Indeed, which is why the welfare system needs an overhaul so as to enhance social mobility.

How does the Marian Republic feel about the common man's (well, common being's in your case) right to bear arms?

Small arms are legal in the Federation; semi-automatic policy is decided province by province. Automatics and military-grade weaponry in general are illegal.

While the right to bear arms is generally seen as a good one, many also dislike excessive technology, and so prefer weapons to stay in the hands of the military and police. There's a large social stigma towards weapon ownership amongst many Kaetif.

The Marathis make one final demand for Macedonia to call off its assault, or they will retaliate.

Well in the NCSA, guns are very common and the gun laws are very loose. However, for the sake of international good, we try and stop large arms traffiking from entering other countries. But if we wanted to save some money, the Marians would have no problem if some military grade weapons were found in the possesion of Marian citizens? If you're saving money by allowing illegal drugs into the NCSA, then we see no reason to waste money keeping weapons out of the hands of any underground anti-Marian militias certain arms dealers might happen to contact.

With Europe being a giant battlefield between humanity and abhorrents, firearm ownership is both common and encouraged. Simply put our military can't be everywhere at once and when were called away fighting nasties in a foreign land, it's up to local militias and mercenaries to defend the homes and families of or fighting men and women.

Given the similar economic situation of the continent, the Marian Federation proposes an economic union between all of Africa.

-Freedom of movement, to be decided by each member; the Federation votes for full open borders outward and also accepts all Kaetif immigrants out of hand

-Free trade; tariffs will be abolished.

-Free movement of capital and investments; nationalist property laws (a la the former Mexico's) will be abolished or weakened.

If you feel that drugs can cause anarchy yet widespread ownership of military armaments cannot, we're afraid there's nothing we can do. Drugs are the domain of the individual, whereas weapons are not always simply for personal use...

Meaning, if drugs get into the NCSA, some citizens merely are using their right to destroy their bodies that the moralistic government has seen fit to take away.

If weapons get into the Marian Federation, some citizens are violating the right to be free from fear of other citizens.

We could always just close our market to NCSA goods however... you're free to reciprocate, but given the heavy blue zone status of the Marian Republic vs. the heavy yellow zone status of the NCSA, we don't think it's hard to see the Marians have less to lose.

This, of course, doesn't even touch upon how indirectly giving aid and comfort to our enemies may... carry certain consequences.

Allowing weapons into the hands of terrorists endangers national security, allowing drugs into addicts' hands does not. If it does, it's only because the NCSA hasn't apparently though to liberalise the trade, thus making cartels not anywhere near as violent or profitable.

the Federation agrees to all three of the above, feeling that it will only help African nations, many of which are still impoverished.

African Trade Organisation

There was naturally applause in Kinshasa and Sava alike at the formation of the African Trade Organisation, or ATO.

As per the founding doctrine, the Savanna and Marians now enjoy:

-Open borders

-Abolition of property discrimination against ATO citizens

-Abolition of tariffs, with a single unifying tariff against non-ATO members.

It is hoped that one day, all of Africa will be part of the ATO; the wealthiest continent on Earth will become even wealthier.

Marian command reports the loss of Andalucia to the Abhorrent bastards. It is readily apparent that the grip on Iberia simply will not last.

This also means the Federation loses some clout, no longer being as potent with regards to the Straits of Gibraltar. However, the valuable island fortresses of the Atlantic will still be used as bases, thus enabling continued grip over the area.

Ships are attempting to relieve the Portuguese possession of Gibraltar, which is sure to be taken at some point in the near future. Right now, the Federation is concerning itself with evacuations of Iberia and Italy as a whole. It appears the island chains of the Atlantic will be prime real estate for Marian refugees.

The Federation of course, offers to evacuate Portugal's civilians as needed.

SDI reports successful test
Pacifistan is exuberant to report the first "proper" test of the Strategic Defence Initiative was a resounding success. The test missile was destroyed and its reactive elements rendered inert. While the system is still too fresh to be considered for global deployment, the government has green-lighted local use with the optimistic expectation that the project will become viable sooner rather than later. The Hetmanate is already planning for a second shipment of components.

Radiation-eating microbe?
On behalf of Malagasy researchers, the NLLP has presented the Storting Project with a genetically-engineered microbe that purportedly neutralizes radiation. While detoxifying organisms are not unknown, the Malagasy team claims their invention is capable of cleaning up pollution exponentially faster than current specimens known to science. If true, the discovery could herald the first steps toward the long-speculated "Environmental Restoration Initiative".

"Dude, Where's My WMD?"

With the Brazzaville dispute having been resolved, Monaco scrapped its delivery of a nuclear-armed missile to the city-state. But when the military prepared to take the warhead back into storage, they discovered it was missing.

Authorities confirmed earlier today that the whereabouts of the ICBM are unknown. Monegasque intelligence suspects the culprits to be affiliated with one of a number of anti-Marian terrorist cells.

In preparation for shipping, the warhead was disassembled and stored in a number of unmarked container crates. Dockworkers describe it would be "easy" in such a state to load the missile either onto a different ship, or to scatter the components via cargo trucks.

Currently, the most widely discussed question within Monaco and San Marino is how such a sensitive package could be stolen so cleanly in the first place.

We are willing to open borders as well! My our metal-backed currency appreciate!

The Zulu currency is the 'Zut'. Each Zut can be exchanged for an ounce total of a mixture of various metals from the useful, like copper or titanium, to the valuable, such as gold or platinum. The money is backed by the mineral richness itself where the Zulite miners have dug within reach of the mantle deep below the crust as well as a conventional vault in a capital supported by auxillary and various fallback vaults throughout the country. Many manufacturer simply exchange Zuts for Metals for raw materials.
