The what? We need pics.

Yes, I know - but at Deity I feel like I have to have armies. I'm facing 73 infanteries atm and I'd like to have some armies so I can practice the Funnel of Doom. :)

I know something. You don't need so many armies. If you place a vet Infantry + Artillery into a fortress (no need for a barricade) the AI will not attack those with their Infantries, Cavs, or lower. Should help with a funnel of doom a great deal as that solution is much cheaper than an army (not to mention the opportunity cost). And ... you might not even have to fight them. Just lure or herd them into a corner and coop them up.

Saves a lot of hassle. ETA: Oh, I now see that in the menu it says "Rifleman", but that is just the name of the unit. It is an Infantry.

Takhisis: Funnel of Doom, or FOD, is described here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=81424&page=6 and it's a way of trapping huge amounts of enemy units between your armies and then attack their cities with more military. After you've conquered their last city, their military of 500-800 units will just disappear. Or, you can also take their military out by loading cannons and artillery in your army and bombard a lot, but that will surely take some time...

Lord Emsworth: Hey, nice idea... So you bring a worker along as well to build the fortress? And then you just attack their units with that one vet infantery? Doesn't that take a lot of time or can you drop more units into that fortress as well? Hmm. Very nice.

EDIT: They didn't come with Infantery, my bad. Anyhow, I'd like to lure their units into a trap set up with my armies. But now I see I can try Lord Emsworth's idea.

No, you don't attack anything with them. They just block tiles. And putting more units into that fortress would be missing the point.

ETA: One worker is a little bit light. Fortresses take several turn to build. But in the IA that shouldn't be a big problem.

Just did, nice one. It can't be used after rails though, but I'll try it out for sure when fighting before that!

Thanks! Another newbie question: Essential wonders for space? Pyramids, happiness wonders and all industrial? Which ones did you build in your 650AD regent finish?

For space as in 'space victory'?

Thanks! Another newbie question: Essential wonders for space? Pyramids, happiness wonders and all industrial?

Happiness wonders are not so important. And for nearly all of them you have to take a detour over non-optional techs. Hanging Gardens come with Monarchy (and stop working with Steam Power - it's tragic), JSBach's needs Music Theory (maybe an AI coughs that up, sometime in the late IA maybe?), Shakespeare's is totally off track. The only interesting one is MoM. But that is because you need some sort of GA trigger when you play the Russians and their UU is not an option.

Wonders that increase science in a single city are more alluring, but absolutely not essential. The Collossus (the other half of the Russian GA trigger), Cope's, Newton's, and much later SETI are all kinda nice but nothing more, except you manage to get an SSC. The Internet is more important than any of those. A reasearch lab everywhere helps a lot with Modern Age techs.

The Pyramids are super-important too, but you really need an early SGL to get the most of it.

But in the end the only wonder that comes close to must-have is ToE. Make sure that you get something good from it.

Which ones did you build in your 650AD regent finish?

Pyramids (Moscow); SGL
MoM (Moscow); SGL
Collossus; (Moscow); handbuilt
Cope's (Moscow); handbuilt
Newton's (Moscow); SGL
ToE (St Peterburg); handbuilt
Internet (Rostov); handbuilt
SETI (Moscow); SGL

Focus on getting production boosts, the Hoover Dam always helps with that.

Shift+E gets you the panel where you select which civs you want to perform diplo/spy missions on, you can't do any dipomatic missions in countries you're at war with -including the building of an embassy itself- but you can still do spy ops.

Today I was noticing that every time I built a Solar Plant or a Coal Plant, I would get gold out of nowhere. 40+ for a Solar Plant, and 80+ for a Coal Plant. Why is this?

Wait, I just answered my own question. I was also wondering why it seemed that I kept building Solar and Coal Plants when I realized, "They cannot coexist!" So I would get the gold from selling them. Am I correct?

Later, as I thought about it more, it would be an interesting way of getting gold. I was running at a -20 deficit (had 3000+), so I didn't really care, as the game is wrapping up anyway. Anyway, build one, then build the other, get gold, build the other, get gold, if you have enough cities, you could pull it off.

Not sure, if you come out ahead that way or not. If you built nothing the shields would be converted to gold and added to the income. How much depends on your form of governent iirc.

If you took 16 turns at 20 shields each and if it converts to 5 gold for 20 shields, you lost money.

Well, when you put it that way....I'm currently using Monarchy. Does that help? Anyway, just seemed confusing why I was gaining gold.
