MINIONS OF KURIZHEN (Mafia) VICTORY!

Congratulations to Visorslash/topsecret2, atheotes, and Kennigit!

I won and lost.

Mafia:

Spoiler :
Kurizhen's Minions (Mafia)

High Priest Kurizhen has appointed you to the task of killing all of the heretics. He has confided in you, as he has with all members of his priesthood, that this whole thing is a hoax. "God" hasn't commanded Kurizhen to do anything, as "God" doesn't exist. At least, not as the people of Kyltore believe him.... No, the priests draw their dark powers from demonic sources.

Kurizhen has provided you with an extremely deadly assassin to do the dirty work for you. You're here to lead the charge against this small group of blasphemers, appointed by Kurizhen. If all goes well, this will simply be the first step in Kurizhen's grand plan for the priesthood:

Complete and utter control of Kyltore.

QuickTopic: Minions of the Clergy

Team Ability: Your team leader, currently Visorslash, controls the assassin's actions and vote (PM me during the Day for his vote, which I will make in the thread).

For reference, here is the assassin at your disposal:

z4ckdabeast

Class: Warrior

Level: V
Experience: 600 / 600

Health: 10,000 / 10,000

Background Information: z4ckdabeast's background is mysterious and largely unknown. All that you know is that Kurizhen has magically bound him to your will, and that he is incredibly powerful.

Once his powers were exposed his parents were killed by the villagers while saving him. He has wandered the world learning his skills not staying anywhere long enough to call it home. He has his own sense of right and wrong, which may not sit well with others. He was respected but feared as well. The accident and consequent magical healing which caused his face to be hidden behind a mask and eyes to glow only added to the fear factor. It did mean he got his privacy and he was happy about it.

Buddhafish:

Spoiler :
Sir Robinson the Black

SQ6hb.png

Role: Sir Robinson the Black
Player: Buddhafish

Team: Serial Killer

Alignment: Neutral
Class: Warrior

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 250 / 250

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: Robinson Sparrow was a boy growing up in the House of Bird in Old England. He was brought up doing Knightly things in a Knightly way and was made a Knight in the House of Bird. He was invited by the Duke of the House, who lived some miles away, to his home immediately for the Knighting Ceremony. This was odd in their time, as Knightings usually took place at the House's Meeting Chambers once a month. Nevertheless, Robinson went to the House to be Knighted, and was Knighted as Sir Robinson Sparrow. He returned home to find that the Duke had wanted his family dead, and his home, with his entire family inside, was burned to the ground. He found his trusted horse in the mostly burned stable and rode off with his new sword, taking the name Sir Robinson the Black, denouncing his affiliation with the House of Bird. He has traveled the countryside for years ever since, doing whatever he feels like doing, somethings Knightly, others not. He strikes fear into the hearts of some, adoration into others, and his only quest is looking for the Duke who ordered the death of his beloved family.

ABILITIES:

Spoiler :
Just a Flesh Wound: If you would normally die during any phase, your health will instead be set to 1 HP (works every time unless your health is at 1).

ITEMS:

Spoiler :
Knightly Sword: Each night, you may attack another player (150 damage to Warlock, 125 damage to Scoundrel, 100 damage to Warrior).

Faction Objective 1: 50%. Personally kill, by whatever means (lynch included), at least six other players. (Failure to meet this threshold will result in a partial completion of this objective, depending on how many players you kill.)

Faction Objective 2: 21%. All of Kurizhen's minions, and any other malevolent forces, are dead when the game ends.

Personal Objective: 13%. Survive twice when you would otherwise not have due to your "Just a Flesh Wound" ability.

Survival: 16%. Survive to the end of the game.

choxorn:

Spoiler :
Hugh Mann

hPpU7.jpg

Role: Hugh Mann
Player: choxorn

Alignment: Neutral
Class: Warlock

Team: Innocent

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 250 / 250

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 70 health.

Background Information: Hugh Mann is absolutely and totally human, except for the fact that he's secretly a strange ancient being from another plane that somehow ended up at this particular location and time, and decided to take on the appearance of a human warlock.

Which is completely false, as Hugh Mann actually is a human warlock, he's just a little insane from running into strange ancient beings from different planes that somehow end up in the same time and place as him, and seems to think he is one of them now, and is currently taking on the appearance of one such being disguised as himself. Whether or not he was always named Hugh Mann is up for debate, and how exactly he managed to disguise as something else disguising as him is also unknown.

ABILITIES:

Spoiler :
Magical Infliction: Each night, you may attack another player (30 damage to Warrior, 20 damage to Scoundrel, 10 damage to Warlock; due to your alignment, you cannot deliver a killing blow).

ITEMS:

Spoiler :

Faction Objective 1: 37%. All of Kurizhen's minions are dead when the game ends.

Faction Objective 2: 30%. All other malevolent forces besides Kurizhen’s minions are dead when the game ends.

Personal Objective: 18%. Inflict a total of at least 150 damage on other players using your "Staff of Wizardry" item and/or your "Magical Infliction" ability.

Survival: 15%. Survive to the end of the game.

Team: Paladin

Alignment: Good
Class: Warlock

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 250 / 250

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: Vindictus Newton has seen his fair share of battle. While his warrior colleagues clashed against many a physical foe, Vindictus' wars have been fought on a mystical level. As a Warlock, Vindictus takes a pragmatic approach to his art. The One True Faith isn't just supremely moral; the very laws of physics are dependent on it.

And yet Vindictus does not take this for granted. He still invests his emotions in preserving his faith, lest his hubris carry him too far over the edge. Some would say, however, that his caution carries him into paranoia; his green ear muffs "pertect 'im frim the quarky gnats."

ABILITIES:

Spoiler :
Test of Faith: Each night, you may scan another player to discover if they are strong in their faith or weak (100% chance of successful, accurate scan).

Earthling:

Spoiler :
Presto the Audacious

29bg6j5.jpg

Role: Presto the Audacious
Player: Earthling

Team: Innocent

Alignment: Neutral
Class: Scoundrel

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 400 / 400

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: The archmage who calls himself Presto the Audacious is no archmage. In fact, while he might make use of an artifact or two to keep up appearances, he has no talent at magic of his own. The persona of the old, wisened man is merely a disguise for a sly younger rogue with a special penchant for dealing with magicians. He's become quite good at handling the people, if not their powers. The legend of Presto, if it even passes from city to city, is greater than the man.

Warlocks ultimately have the same motivations as more common people. They have disputes with rivals and plays for power and influence. Locked away in their towers are the ones who become most blinded to interpersonal dealings and they are the easiest of all to manipulate.

Never say a harsh word about their crafts and offer help in altogether mundane matters, and they might consider you one of their own without lifting a magical finger. Then, when it's time to move on, there's always the possibility of obtaining rare knowledge and artifacts, which, of course, can be sold for the grandest prices.

ABILITIES:

Spoiler :
(NONE)

ITEMS:

Orb of Truth: Each night, you may investigate another player to see if they are a Warlock (30% chance of "unclear" result, otherwise completely accurate). If they are indeed a Warlock, you may attempt to steal an item from them (30% chance of successful steal; 25% chance of discovering its effect every night in possession of it).

Faction Objective 1: 48%. All of Kurizhen's minions are dead when the game ends.

Faction Objective 2: 24%. All other malevolent forces besides Kurizhen’s minions are dead when the game ends.

Personal Objective: 15%. Determine another player is a Warlock, steal an item from them, determine the item's effect, then use the item.

Survival: 13%. Survive to the end of the game.

Jarrema:

Spoiler :
Euron

Role: Euron
Player: Jarrema

Team: Innocent

Alignment: Evil
Class: Scoundrel

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 250 / 250

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

When he was 12, his parents were murdered by a cabal of evil spellcasters. He barely escaped, and he spent next decade of his life struggling for survival at the streets of the city. Now, when he is almost fully grown-up, he wants to avenge his parents. He vowed to slay every magic-user he meets.

ABILITIES:

Revenge: Each night, you may investigate another player to determine if they are a Warlock (100% chance of successful, accurate scan). If they are in fact a Warlock, you will deliver 30 damage to them (each subsequent visit to the same Warlock delivers damage in increasing increments of 10).

Team: Innocent

Alignment: Good
Class: Warlock

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: “Blah blah blah, and that’s who Eoin Siarl is” –said the mage just before a brick fell onto his head from the top of the building behind him. In that instant, the man in charge of compiling this information wished that he had been more attentive to the now dead man, as now he knew about this character as much as he already knew before: nothing.

But having to find the background info of so many characters, he decided that if one was missing, nobody would notice, and departed for his next assignment.

Kennigit:

Spoiler :
Irene Freawaru

W5PDE.jpg

Role: Irene Freawaru
Player: Kennigit

Team: Kurizhen's Minions

Alignment: Evil
Class: Scoundrel

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 400 / 400

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: Irene Freawaru (two words that both have derivations meaning "peace") is not what she seems.

At first glance many men are infatuated with her gentle kind looks. And she knows it. She manipulates men in a deadly fashion.

When she was married away in a political marriage at the age of 15 to bring peace between two warring houses, she planned to become the sole ruler of that pathetic kingdom.

After three years of scheming + making the right alliances/impressions with the right people, she convinced the prince she was married off to--sole heir to the throne--to hire assassins and kill the king and queen to take the throne for himself (and making her the queen).

However, she also had been *flirting* with a senior ranking knight and told him that the Prince is mad for power, and that he [the knight] must warn the king and queen who never would believe their son would usurp the thrown in bloody murder. The knight was hesitant and didn't quite believe her concerns, but after he heard word the King and Queen were dead he rushed to Irene to ask what happened. Irene told him privately the Prince murdered his parents (rather than assassins), that he must kill the prince and, as a high ranking successful knight, become the effective King to restore stability.

The knight then did murder the Prince and tried to plead his case to become the new King himself, and explained everything he had been told earnestly. However, other members of the royal court had established that assassin's--not the Prince--had murdered the King and Queen. The King's aides and high ranking officials (with Irene's suggestions) thought the Knight had hired the assassins in the first place, and a distraught and crying Irene begged that the Knight's head must be brought for killing her husband and the royal family.

The elders of the royal court were wise to not immediately install Irene as queen, as some still knew her political marriage did not really bring any peace (and despite 3 years of her perfectly playing her part while scheming all of thus up). As they deliberated in the following week on how to succeed the royal line, Irene heard word that one of the assassins had been caught. She feared that the assassin could have info that could expose this plot as part of her and the Prince's bloodthirst, and she felt her word was not trusted enough--even though the royal court believed this was all the doing of the high ranking Knight, she did not know how solidly they believed in it.

She thus fled to whatever setting this game is in (EDITOR'S NOTE: Kyltore), presumably with 1-2.5 years passing. If that entails becoming involved in some other powerful faction, so be it.

NinjaCow64:

Spoiler :
Nikoli Carson Strogonovitch

Role: Nikoli Carson Strogonovitch
Player: NinjaCow64

Team: Innocent

Alignment: Good
Class: Scoundrel

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 400 / 400

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: Nikoli is from the Frozen Tundra, North of Kyltore. He was born in the tribal areas, but he was bored with the tribal life that his life offered him. He heard of tales from Mokov, the largest city North of Klytore. He heard of the corruption and oppression that happened within the city's wall. He heard of the Criminal Syndicates that actually ran the city. He thought is was a perfect opportunity to see the world and do some good. So he set out, with his hunter's gear and tried to fix all the problems that were in Mokov.

When he arrived in Mokov, he came across something he didn't think of: apathy. The majority of the city didn't care about the cruelty and oppression that was happening in the city, as long as it didn't directly effect them. And it rarely did. With no support from any of the populace, Nikoli fell into a trap that many do in the city of Mokov: alcohol. His addiction to alcohol was legendary. He stole from many members of the Syndicate to gain money to pay for his addiction. One time he got so drunk that he punched the son of the head of the largest Syndicate in all of Mokov. The son was so furious, at Nikoli's violent outburst and his constant infringement on his business, that he exiled Nikoli. He promised that if Nikoli showed his face in any city controlled by the Syndicate he would be killed.

Nikoli gathered all his wilderness gear, and a large supply of alcohol, and used his skills and tools from years of tribal hunting to survive. He decided to travel south, to go to the one place he knew would be free from Syndicate influence: Kyltore. Now that he has arrived...he has found a new threat...a new evil to overcome.

Nikoli, even though he has had years of heavy drinking, is surprisingly fit and healthy. Some have theorised that the amount of alcohol has strengthened his liver into hard steel, but this probably just legend

Although Nikoli can be remarkably clear headed, even when drunk, it is rare when somebody pays much attention to a drunkard in a situation of life and death.

Apart from his remarkable stamina, he doesn't have any remarkable abilities. Nikoli believes that it is how you handle the tools that you have create that makes the measure of a man, not how you use the advantages that the gods have given you.

Player: Verarde

Team: Innocent

Alignment: Neutral
Class: Scoundrel

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 250 / 250

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: Xam Hokaanir's origins lie shrouded in mystery. At best, the tales that swirl around him point to a life of normalcy in the lands of Dagranir--before the Cheoth came. After that despicable blight upon the earth had passed, Xam was the only one of his family who had survived. Or so the most popular story goes. No one has been able to talk to Xam long enough to get more out of him. He carries twin daggers known as the Twin Dragons of Destiny. Where he received such powerful blades, no one knows--but they seem to grant him extraordinary senses and abilities. Probably one of the reasons he's been able to stay alive so long.

It's true that Xam has not made many friends. He's a mercenary. He'll work for anyone. Assassinations, sabotage, fighting, whatever. As long as it pays good. He's likely rich enough to go retire to some abandoned castle, but he hasn't. Why not is anyone's guess.

ABILITIES:

Faction Objective 2: 28%. All other malevolent forces besides Kurizhen’s minions are dead when the game ends.

Personal Objective: 18%. Successfully use your "Twin Dragons of Destiny" item to lose at least 50 less health than you would have otherwise.

Survival: 20%. Survive to the end of the game.

Visorslash:

Spoiler :
Valdur

su0Ei.png

Role: Valdur
Player: Visorslash

Team: Kurizhen's Minions

Alignment: Evil
Class: Warlock

Level: I
Experience: 0 / 100

Health: 400 / 400

Lynch Power: Your lynch/support vote is worth 50 health.

Background Information: A former magician of high power, Valdur is now a husk, a shadow of what he was. A veteran of a thousand psychic wars, he fought for Kyltore against the other neighbouring fiefdoms. Eventually, the wars took a toll on him, and in his final battle, he was broken, his armour destroyed, his weapons used up and he was left helpless. However, in the chaos, neither army noticed that he was not actually dead.

He awoke hours later, to blackness. He could see nothing, hear nothing and smell nothing. Instead he lay there, pondering his situation. He couldn’t continue like this, but neither could he just give up. He felt around himself for purchase and scrambled to his feet. He could see his vision returning slowly. Shambling along he walked in what he knew was the right direction, though he knew not why. He was not seen since.

Weeks passed, and his health returned. He would never be as powerful as he once was, but he was alive. As he recouped his strength, he began to wander, to visit the towns and villages. He was shocked to see that he was wanted for treason; apparently he had turned sides in the battle. Unable to take this injustice, he murdered the inhabitants of a small village and switched clothes with the local mage. He made it to the local town, and entered the tavern to order a drink. Unfortuantely for him, some people have long memories, and as he drank more and more he was unable to notice the men sneaking up on him, and knocking him out. He awoke in a cell with a message in his hand saying: “You are one of the 25 people who will be part of the duel. You will earn your just reward, traitor.”

Valdur didn't know anything about the duel, but he did know that he would get his revenge on the royalty of Kyltore, that would be a just reward.

ABILITIES:

Spoiler :
Demonic Possession: Each night, you may summon demons to attempt and possess another player for you (25% chance of success). If successful, possession will begin the following phase. After the first phase you possess the player, there will be a 30% chance of losing the possession of that player (increases by 15% each phase the player is possessed).

Survival: 20%. Survive to the end of the game.

So who was the final Mafia?

Mobile phone. Spoilers. Nuff said. :p

Dude my screen name is Knight from monty python (silly Kennigit) and I still say Irene's picture wins so easily.

is there a nightlog of actions?

Also I just read through all the PMs and it seems like everything was really well done; some stories are quite good as well. There are some details that maybe seem a bit uneven at times (mainly johnhughthom seems to have a 0-1 lynch-2 ability-1 item point, but got an ability with 100% success rate that was pretty good IMO) but all is good. Except similar to joecoolyo in dinner party not sure I'm too huge a fan of a guy surviving a lynch inherently (though with this game it's not a surprise, as there may have been well one-time use abilities or items, etc), though some of the lower damage abilities seemed to not really be good for finishing off buddhafish (choxorn deal nonlethal damage, I think someone could damage only warlocks by a scan, etc).

Night log would reveal a lot. This is the type of game design that I'm the most fond of (items, HP, etc) but similar to Archetype mafia there is some oversight/just unluckiness that in retrospect makes me think % based abilities should be replaced with like "use three times on nonconsecutive nights" and such.

For example, classical hero died night 1 and had a 50-50% to survive or die.

I think a lot of my thoughts are on the mafia quicktopic mainly. Shame game ended a bit with inactivity, namely second to last lynch.

Still want to reiterate these game setups are my favourite set ups by far, so any nitpicking of smaller details isn't too major since it seems things were decently balanced and there wasn't too much a disparity between people putting points in X and getting comparable successful abilities.

Though +20 for a point in lynch power didn't seem to really warrant enough of a reward.

Also can you edit a link into OP or in the phase updates the 2 posts for the role PM?

Don't care about the individual updates so much for future use but would like to handily find the PM posts without digging up page 21.

Dude my screen name is Knight from monty python (silly Kennigit)

Is that how you pronounce that? Hmm, never thought of it that way before.

On Game Topic: I really enjoyed it Zack. Being a Serial Killer is fun, even if I only killed 1 person. And did you decide abilities and roles based on Background info, or was it all RNG?

I really enjoyed it Zack. Being a Serial Killer is fun, even if I only killed 1 person.
You kept targeting the wrong people, including CivCube twice (who simply healed the very same night you delivered mega damage to him).

And did you decide abilities and roles based on Background info, or was it all RNG?
I made the roles designed around the background info and stat distribution, then assigned the three mafia roles to the roles I felt best fit into a mafia team, then made you a serial killer (beefing up your stats past what they would have been if you were town), and made CivCube a serial killer (same).

Also can you edit a link into OP or in the phase updates the 2 posts for the role PM?
Done.

Woo! We (well I know it won;t count for stats, unfortunately but I did put in a lot of effort before I left) won!

Good job Kennigit. Thanks for the team. Apologies Zack for quitting and thanks to Topsecret for replacing, if only briefly.

I was attempting to thwart any kind of town network by infiltrating it, and being proactive in private comms to Earthling, Jarrema and Mat, as well as Ninja briefly. Seems I was doing well, until Buddhafish decided to knife my character. (bastard :p). If you wanted kills, you should've worked with us. :p

Thanks for hosting Zack, I will post more in detail comments later.
