***GAME ENDED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST***

Rhye's of Civilization Xpack Thread

The Blood Eagle was reportedly a method of torture and execution that is sometimes mentioned in old Icelandic Viking sagas. It was performed by cutting the ribs of the victim by the spine, and breaking the ribs so they resembled blood-stained wings, then the lungs were pulled out. Salt was reportedly sprinkled in the wounds.

(Thank you Wikipedia)

This is what we intend to do to the AI ;p

Rules

- Each player will dl the save, play for X number of turns (defined later), and then post it here with a detailed record of their actions.

- Please please please remember to tell us if you are unable to take your turn. You will be skipped over, but will be able to take your next turn as normal.

- All players have 24hrs from the time the file is posted to acknowledge dl and begin play. If you do not post by the end of that 24hr period, the next person in the rotation will take over for you for that set.

RevisedTurn Schedule

20 turns per set

I would have played the first turn (the boring one) but I have a track meet today and this is my last free period, so if we want to start today someone else will have to do it.

If you want me to change the rotation (which was established at a whim) just tell me.

I think I got everyone, but if I missed somebody... well, you know... just yell at me ;p

Oh, can I pick up my part on next Monday? That is, on the 20th... I would do it on that day and pass it on next day.
I try to figure it out when I am supposed to come in. If on Sunday, strictly, well, I might solve it in a way...

I think if I shifted it right you should now be playing monday. Game is loaded for Blas (Or whoever has time to start it) I set it up and saved, but I did not do anything, so totally up to him ;p

Also, if someone happens to be unable - with good excuse - to fulfull his (her?) part, can it be that when skipped over, the person can return to be in that 6-person phase, as soon as possible? So the played amount of turns would not lessen...

I thought about that, but it seems more complicated than just skipping and picking up as usual next time. Otherwise we have to constantly re-adjust. and somebody might not know that it is there turn or some such rubbish.

Re the gender thing: I am basically just using he/him unless I know for certain the actual gender of the person... I cant go around calling everyone it ;p

Yeah thats all I found who said yes on the RoX main thread... soo thats it really ;p

lurker's comment:
Be sure to post screen shots with your turn logs. This should be a fun game to watch and great advertisement for the x-pack. Be sure to link this thread to the x-pack web site!

Also, you may want to limit turn logs to 10 turns a piece after the first few players or the first round. 20 turns become a chore to handle as they become more involved, especially when you want quick turn arounds on the game.

Good luck!

I'd be happy to join. May I?

The best start for the Vikings is to build 3 warriors at the beginning. The first heads toward the hut on the southwest edge of Norway. The second heads toward the hut at St Petersburg. The third stays in Trondheim.

That was typed from memory. I play this mod too much. ;)

I will play tomorrow (as it's almost 2 AM here). [Any DGiT lurkers: the only reason I'm so quick to play here is that this is a first set of the game and so it will be a qucik set. And I have a day off tomorrow. =P]
About set lengths, I suggest:
20 turns per set for the first three sets.
15 turns per set for the rest of the first round.
10 turns per set until the end of the Middle Ages.
5 turns per set from the start of the Industrial age.
Minimum of three turns, maximum of five, per set from the start of Modern Times and on (players should be free to choose wether they take three, four, or five at this stage.)
Remember that turns tend to be very long when you're a huge, rich, communist empire that has firearms (and even more so if said empire has tanks and aircrafts), and since you will not dare to argue about becoming such an empire, it would be best to have sets get shorter with time. Especially since with the X-Pack, from the late middle ages and on the loading times between turns are long and we will have to sit through them.

Lurker notice: i'm really looking forward to watching this. :D :D :D

from reading a LOT of SGs, i'd strongly recommend you shorten turn lengths as the game goes on - it's faster to turn around, easier to read, and the decisions become bigger and more quickly, giving the team an opportunity to coordinate strategy.

i'd also strongly agree to post screenshots - it makes the game easier to follow, and can show off Rhye's team's great work. :)

edit: PS - might want to call this ROX1, since i hope there will be more SGs to follow :D

Agreed! :D

Just wanted to note that 3x20 + 4x15 = 120 > 1/4 of game iirc.

I did not think of this before when I was proposing the 20 turn rotation (which I will admit to scamming from the guide since this is my first SG ;p)

Anyway, I think I have made all the changes you guys requested. Anyone have a problem with posting .sav files for everyone to see?

Modesty or difficulty in upload are the only reasons I can think of to say no.
