OK, I've been in several succession games on Monarch that ended in Domination victories. I'm even in one on Emperor.

However, I'd like to try something different. I would like to try a culture win. I'm selecting Babylon, as they are both religious and scientific.

Conquests, Standard size, Random world. Raging barbs. I'll generate a few starts and let you all decide.

We cannot declare war on anyone. Of course if someone declares on us, whack 'em ;)

and here are the starts:

possible sign up.
what type of culture are you aiming for? 20k or 100k?
if teh goal is 100k, then ill sign up.
i really need some work on my culture wins. dom is just too easy these days.
i guess the level is monarch?

start 1 - i really dont like FPlains. nope.
start 2 - cold, but has a lake. possible.
start 3 - no fresh water, but 2 BG. possible.
start 4 - corner office, 3 BG and fresh water.
start 5 - desert FPlains, but near the sea. possible

my choice would be start4

Yes, it'll be Monarch. Probably 100K, but if there's a shot at a 20K city (though with these starts, I don't think so), we can take it.

I'll sign up, but can't play until Wednesday or on Friday through Sunday of this week. Just a warning. Usually my weeks are more normal.

I prefer Start 4. Corner of the map, nice land. I hate Floodplains because they're always a risk.

:bump: this to the top to try to get at least two more players.

@Dbear: I will sign in if we play 100K my way :ar15: :spank: :hammer: :whipped: :sniper: :spear:
That will simply mean they title of the thread will be somewhat ambigious. ;)

The fastest way to get 100K in conquests.
ToA build + same strategy one would use for fastest domination win, but you stop before reaching dom limit. Meanwhile placing as many cities as possible outside of your core.
In other words 100k is a game for warmongers not culture builders.
i suggest you play space race or Diplo if you really want to call it "put away your swords"

Don't be scared of my low post count, I've lurked here a while. ;)

Anywho, I need some work with culture wins as well, I usually end up winning my Regent/Monarch games with Space Race of Dom.

Though I honestly think there's a good chance we'll have to war at some point. While Monarch isn't a ridiculous start for the AI like Diety, We may get trapped and have to do something. Or at the least, we may have to do a small landgrab for a resource, for our own use or denial. But what do I know.

Also, start 4 is keen. Not a big fan of flood plains unless necessary, and all the BG and the river are enticing. That capital will be a nice 'versatile' city, able to produce whatever we need with good results. And the 'corner office' is nice too.

OK, we have 5 players, I'll get this going tonight. I'll still take one or two more though.

Warrior1 continues w, warrior2 n.

Turn order:

Good start. Ivory is nice, we can probably get some SoZ action going, but we may not have opponents around to use them on. Regardless, if we're on an island, we need to get to Map Making as fast as possible, for obvious reasons.

Even if we are isolated, we still need to expand and get as much territory as we can.

More Cities=More Culture

the log

preturn - lower sci to 70. myst still in 5 but no gpt loss

1-expolre north. worker moves.
2-mine bg.
4-volcano far to the west explodes. lower sci to 30 so i gain 3g.
5-myst in > decide on alpha for the curraghs. set @ 80 due in 27.
8-granary in. > settler. road mine. lower sci to 60 as i dont want to lose money.
12-settler out, heading for the tusks. start another settler.
15- should have stopped here, but mispressed enter.
16-up sci to 70 (alpha in 17, +0gpt)

summary, settler is set in place near tusks.
the warrior near home is there for MP duty-escorts.
i now believe we are on a peninsula, or a HUGE continent for ourselves.
dot map shows and tells all.
we need settlers asap.

lurker's comment: This looks like it's going to be a fun game. I have to question that dot map though. Those cities are WAAAAY too far apart. Unless you're going to plop one right in the middle between the three.
