2K Games Announces Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Warlords

I'm not saying I don't want the expansion.. but I want Civ4 to run properly before they 'expand'. So much for the Civ4 strategy of building up, not out.. seems they're doing the opposite of that here lol. I wish the effort was being put into the patch instead of the expansion. This is really making me think Firaxis is just milking this civ baby for all its worth.

Fix the game's problems, and then expand! They're seriously testing my loyalty here. Civ 5? Nahhh.. there's other quality games out there I've heard.

You seem to not realize that perhaps the patch may be released before the expansion. Its already been announced, and it should be here quite soon. That should let the game work on people's computors until the expnasion comes out. Hopefully it won't be too buggy.

The patch is in final testing. If Firaxis is waiting for 2K to allow them to distribute the patch, I'd much rather see them start work on the expansion than sit around twiddling their thumbs.

Aight.. but still. The reason you test is because you know you'll find bugs. It's called testing for a reason. I guess they're hoping no unfixable bugs will show up. Oh well. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The reason you test is to see if you find any bugs. After the final version of the patch with all the known bugs eliminated has been created, it's generally a good idea to make sure that there aren't any other ones that have snuck in.

Moderator Action: I've merged rmill27's "Patch, not expansion!" thread into this expansion pack announcement thread.

About the patch, it's certainly taking longer than expected, but I am sure it will come out well before the expansion pack and they are not going to make you pay for it.

The screenshot showing Augustus conducting diplomacy shows a Vassal State option that can be offered or accepted by either party. The question is, does such an option wrest ALL control from that player-or just the bulk of their decision making capabilities?? I also hope that this means we will see Barbarian States come into even greater prominence-as it would be good if we could encourage the barbarians to join us without having to beat them to the last man. Additionally, I hope that this might make Civil Wars (done properly-NOT in the mode of Civ2) a real possibility (actually, given that Trip has already produced a Rebellion mod, I would not be at ALL suprised if some form of Civil War/Rebellion system made its way into the first expansion).
Also, just so you know, the SDK/Patch is already done-according to Firaxis sources-and is currently in QA. I for one do trust that the Patch will be released soon, as Firaxis to date have given me no genuine cause for complaint as regards Civ4.

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

Does it seem to anyone else that the expansion pack for civ is coming out way to early. I feel like I JUST spent $50 on vanilla civ4. (I bought it the day it came out.) I would love to have some new leaders and units, but I don't want to spend $50 more so soon.

I didn't start playing the civ series until civ3 Conquests, so I am not sure what the timing of expansion was back then, to compare to.

The Civ3 expansions came out a year apart. This is a bit sooner than I'd have expected also, but I'll buy it right away (although you can wait if you want).

I know I can wait, but it is going to be so hard to resist the temptation to buy it immediatly! haha

Is anyone worried it'll just be a 'leader' type that is just one that improves military production or something?

I say worried because...well...we've already been given that through mods (and really well done)

Infact, I'm getting worried that anything new they might provide is, is something we, the community have either already part way done, or could do anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still be getting this expansion. But what would make it worth paying for? New scenarios? I can download them for free. New civs? Same.

New leaderhead animations? At rrp?

I know Take2 need money, but now I feel this more as them needing cash, rather than Firaxis wanting to do this. Since I thought they wanted US to enhance Civ 4, hence the SDK release.

We have a great Civ community. If you think that the modding community can offer anything that the developers can offer plus more then I wouldn't buy the expansion pak. Plain and simple as that. You're opinion of course.

Joining with barbs? Now that is a cool idea

10 extra leaders, including the new civs?

That means we not only know all the new leaders for old civs in the game (new egyptian guy, Churchill, Stalin, Augustus), but also that all the 1-leader civs get nothing new.

Not cool, giving extra leaders to Russia and England which already have 2 when so many civs are still stuck at one-leader and are still staying stuck there (Japan especially. Japan SHOULD have 2 leaders).

You couldn't be a little biased, could you? ;)

Personally, I really don't care. One leader is the same as any other. They will all have different trait combinations and act differently. The only thing which won't be different is the UU, the civ color and city names. In terms of actual content added, it's essentially the same... it's just that people want more 'flavor' in more civs, even if the differences between them are rather minute.
