Journey to Nowhere - Game Thread

Ninosca lets out a yell as the outskirts of the blast throws her to the ground. Despite the burns she quickly rolls onto her front and readies her ak47. She yells out a series of brief commands;
"Whoever has the big guns, up front. Wounded, snipers and pistolers, find some sort of cover!"

"Yes Ma'am!" shouted Terni, taking his position. He aimed and sniped one of the men. "That is for, um... trying to blow us up!"

Selena quickly seeks cover

How can we beat them when we don't even know how many they are?

OOC: If you don't know how many there are, you can try to find out in your orders. The only io you know is that it's a small squad of soldiers.

(OOC: Does Richard have a gun? If not, my first action is to toss my pistol over to him).

*Dickie grabs Dazzler, and quickly drags him into cover*

Stay, boy. Stay!

*Dickie loads his rifle, and takes aim at the cave exit.*

Jeremy fires three shots at the entrance to cover everyone else as they scramble for a defensive position. Following Ninosca's command he moves up to close cover, prepared to level any Vlats that try to enter the cave from close range. With a grimace he mutters to himself, cursing the government, his luck, and God for these horrible circumstances.

Journey to Nowhere – 0600 hrs, 28.05.00 (Update 8)

The scene in the entrance of the cave quickly became a battle between ten exhausted rebels and a small group of well-armed Vlatixan soldiers. Jeremy Bentham was the first to spring into action, discharging his shotgun 3 times to cover his comrades while they found a defensible position. Everyone else retreated deeper into the cave, in order to try to snipe off the enemy soldiers. However, the Vlatixans weren’t going to fall for it, and one of them shot a rocket straight into the caves, wounding Ninosca again, and killing Thomas Berube-Giguere.

The rebels needed a new battle plan, and fast. Ninosca was critically wounded, and without medical attention, she would surely die. However, Dr. Richard couldn’t get to Ninosca without some covering fire. So, Jeremy Bentham shot out the last 3 rounds of his clip, and Richard grabbed Ninosca, retreating into the caves. The shots from the shotgun also seemed to have killed the Vlatixan with the rocket launcher.

Then, Terni Hans started moving forwards to the mouth of the cave, switching his hunting rifle into full auto and firing wherever he thought there might be enemy soldiers. He managed to wound a few, but now that he was at the mouth of the cave, he could actually see where the enemy troops were, and start sniping. Dickie, Alen, and Jeremy, who also had weapons to shoot the enemies with, joined Terni. They could accurately determine that about 5 enemy soldiers were left.

From the cover of just inside the cave, the four armed rebels managed to snipe what they thought to be all of the soldiers. Then, out of nowhere, Terni Hans got shot in the chest by a Vlatixan soldier who jumped from nowhere. The others quickly shot him down, but Terni Hans was critically wounded from the bullets, and needed immediate medical attention.

After everyone had time to cool down from the battle, and Dr. Richard started tending to Terni and Ninosca’s wounds, more gunshots were heard in the distance. After a few minutes, they died away, and the figure of a man was seen on a hill to the south. He shouted that he was a friend, not one of the government hitmen, and that he knew the way out of the country.

The group allowed him to get closer, and he introduced himself as The Ronin. He said he’s part of a secret organization designed to get rebels and prisoners out of the Vlatixan Empire, and into neighboring Largonia. The organization uses railroads to achieve this, and the closest railroad used by the organization is a couple of days south.

It is now 0600 hrs, the 28th of Blooming, Year 00. The next turn will last at least 24 game hours (probably 48), and the deadline for orders is Wednesday March 18th at 11:59 PM GMT (7:59 PM EDT – Daylight Savings).

Status Report:

I’m going to stop giving food totals now, since they’re so varied. Everyone will be getting a PM shortly, listing their inventories.

To the south is a valley, and further south is where Ronin says the railroad is.

Also, you have some item distribution to take care of. First of all, Jeremy Bentham still has yet to give Dr. Richard his stuff, because no decision has been reached yet. Also, Thomas Berube-Giguere left behind the following items:
- 6 Days' Food
- Cleaver
- Pistol (5 Clips)
- Silenced Sniper (4 Clips)
- Tent and Sleeping Bag (Everyone but Benjamin and Selena has a tent and sleeping bag))
- Cooking Equipment (Pots, Pans, Spices, etc.)

These need to be distributed.

Terni Groaned, he looked up into a hazy face of the Good Docter.

"For Ricky" He gasped.

"We should head south: the caves are either part of another, central rebel group or the Vlaxian Empire...*clears threat, sighs, then speaks again* we have to move out..." *faints*

By the way, I should mention that I added The13thRonin's character mainly because of taillesskangaru's unexpected departure, so I wanted to keep the population level.

Mister Ronin, you have no idea how good it is to see you. Finally it looks like we can have some sort of goal in mind, instead of just heading South. It's a shame about Mr. Berube-Giguere. We'll have to bury him. Or, if we're really pressed for time, I'll settle for hiding him under some rocks in the cave. But we have to pay our respects to the dead.

Personally, I don't think I could really use any of his stuff. I'm a carpenter, not a cook. Please, give the pistol and ammunition to people who can use it.

Alen slowly lowers his repeating crossbow as it becomes clear that the threat had passed. He ejects the empty clip and stores it on his belt for future use. He doesn't seem especially shook up. Of the five enemy soldiers that his small group had engaged, he was certain that his crossbow had killed at least one. These weren't the ideal circumstances for its use, and Alen hadn't had much of a chance to practice with it before fleeing the city, so he was pleased with that.

Seeing that the wounded are being taken care of, and after looking for a moment at the clearly dead body of Thomas, Alen advances towards the dead enemy soldiers, waving for anyone who's interested to follow him.

"Come on, let's see what we can salvage from their equipment."

Hello, I'm sure I've raised some interest with such an unorthodox entrance, allow me to explain myself.

When I was but a lad, I returned home after a most tedious chore, mending an important fence upon the edge of my family’s property. I found the house alight and from a distance I watched as both my parents were executed in cold blood. I escaped into the woods and they became my new home. I have since become a proficient sharpshooter. After years of fighting my own personal war against the government I was ‘selected’ by The Organisation for situations just like these.

I found these clumsy lads *jerks hand in the general direction of the deceased government troops* crashing through the brush, I shadowed them until I heard your gunshots. I was taking up position when I heard a deafening blast, thought you guys would be minced meat. I managed to bump a few wounded ones off in the confusion. I notice one of the recently departed carried a silenced sniper rifle. If you would be so kind I would like to disassemble this device and use its components to modify my existing weapon. I’ve never been able to procure myself a silencer and I damaged my scope in that last clash.

I don’t mind where you fellows decide to head, I’ll accompany you until we eventually get to the railroad. I don’t mean any offense but you guys are about as stealthy as a stick of dynamite so I’ll be making my own way through the forest, scouting ahead or off to the side of your group, always within earshot though. I think this is probably the best way for you guys to avoid getting ambushed again.

What do ya'll think? Is anyone opposed to me procuring the silenced sniper rifle? Where are we heading?

I find that particularly rude, considering I can steal in to the tightest Vlat strongholds.

You got cornered in a cave by RPG wielding soldiers... Please...

PS - If we're going to leave his pistol behind I'll take that too. I could use some close quarters firepower if the enemy ever makes it within 100 yards of me :D.

Because someone sold us out.

And let's face it, I was with... ten other people.

Exactly my point. You guys are strong as a group. But who's scouting ahead to make sure no-one's going to set tricky traps? You can't possibly move stealthy enough to avoid detection as a group. But isolated you are weak. If I move through the forest (which I well know) around you (especially with the silencer) I can attempt to disrupt or report any attack or trap before it is sprung. I could also provide cover if you get pinned down. I'll give you guys a shrill whistle if somethings going on.

Sorry, Richard, but I'll be needin' me pistol back. Ain't more than two clips left for old Delilah here.

*Dickie pats his rifle affectionately. Dazzler scowls at it, with jealousy in his eyes.*

Anyway, doc, I reckon as you've proved yourself worthy, so I'm sure whoever's holdin' your own weapon will turn it back to you now.

Terni lifted his eyes up, his eyes starting to turn red with fever.

"I have only about a 50% chance to survive with this wound...*points to the bullet puncturing the underside of a lung* I hope our leader survives."

"Dickie, you had always been a friend to me. If I die I leave my ammulition to you if you need it.

May you way stay clear."

We need to get movin' soon. And them dead Imperials ain't gonna loot 'emselves. But, before any of that, we still got a few decisions to make...

First, which way we gonna go? I say head south to this railroad. Anyone disagree?

Secondly, should we give Richard his stuff back? My vote is yes - we need everyone ready and able when the next moment of danger arrives.

Thirdly, should Ronin get the sniper rifle? Again, I say yes. It sounds like he'll put it to good use.

Finally, how are we gonna divide up the cook's equipment. Anyone runnin' low on food or ammo? And anyone reckon they can use the rest of his stuff?
