SCIENTISTS MAKE BOUNDS IN PHYSICS. Moscow, Russian Imperial Federation. Two independent national science efforts have resulted in new knowledge of physics for the scientific community. In both Canada and Russia, scientists have established new laws for this fledgling field of science. Theories abound that greater understanding in science could allow for new ideas in ballistics as well as possibly establishing new thought on heavier than air flight, long believed to be impossible.
ZEPPELIN CROSSES OCEAN. Boston, Republic of New England. Cheering crowds in Boston welcomed a brave crew of Portuguese who flew first to the Azores, then Bermuda, then Boston. This major success shows that not only is trans-Atlantic zeppelin flight possible, but potentially profitable. Portuguese and New Englanders have begun in investing in zeppelin ports across the Atlantic, in the hopes that this luxury air transport could soon be a frequent reality.
RED CROSS ESTABLISHES INTERNATIONAL HEADQUARTERS. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. Major funding from Denmark and Sweden encouraged two new options for the establishment of the international wing of the Red Cross. After debating Boston, Geneva, Copenhagen, and Stockholm, the Swedish capital was determined as the ideal location. The Red Cross has announced that they will not be getting involved in the fighting in China, as the atmosphere is not suitable for the deployment of humanitarian aid. Efforts are being made to send supplies into the war-torn regions of the British Islands and Mexico.

CANADA HOLDS FIRST ELECTIONS OUTSIDE OF NEW ENGLAND PROTECTORATE. Toronto, Canada. The Canadian government has at last been brought free of the New England Protectorate, after over fifty years within the empire. The new regime is being treated as a nation of equal status as demonstrated by the formation of the United Nation-States of America. This years elections were dominated by this radical new development, and the nations Conservative Party has managed to take the reigns, promising continued ties with New England, as well as the growth of the Canadian military to protect itself from outside threats. PENNSYLVANIA ELECTIONS. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Socialist Party has continued to retain its Congressional majority as well as the presidency. The Socialist government has relied on its successes during the Great War and in economic reform to continue its major popularity among the people. The Socialists have expressed some concern over the development of the United Nation-States of America, but have pledged to keep Pennsylvanian borders secure. (+1 Stability)
NEW FRANCE ELECTIONS. New Caen, Republic of New France. Under their new constitution, free of Mexican or French imperial influence, the Republic of New France has held their first elections. The Socialist Party has dominated the elections, seizing both the executive branch and Congress. The new government has pledged to assist the Mexican leftists, helping to suppress the remnants of the Mexican imperial regime. Military forces have been deployed to assist the leftists and natives in their struggle. They have furthermore declared full independence from the Mexican Imperial Protectorate, allying themselves instead with the leftists.
MEXICAN CIVIL WAR. Mexico City, Mexico. The Mexican Civil War continued to escalate this year, as more nations attempted to get involved in the continuing fighting. Chile attempted to purchase Easter Island as well as a few other Mexican Pacific possessions. The Mexican leftists were tipped off to this move, and used part of their fleet to secure the islands before the Chileans could take them. Beyond that, the Mexican leftist fleet met with disaster as the Swedish Royal Navy swept in from their bases in the West Pacific, clearing Mexican islands, and sweeping aside the much smaller task forces in their way. In some cases, the islands remained under Imperial control until overwhelming Swedish firepower forced them to surrender. All Mexicans from Palau to Midway now rest securely under Swedish control. The Swedes scored two more naval victories in rapid succession, taking both the Hawaiian island chain and forcing the surrender of Imperial Alaska to their massive force. Some minor fighting took place in Hawaii, where local naval bases at Pearl Harbor attempted to hold against the Swedes. Texas also attempted to exploit the situation by purchasing a large amount of territory from the Imperial Mexican government. In response the entire region has risen up against the Texans, fighting a vicious battle and proclaiming their support for the leftists. To the North, the Native Alliance has secured almost all of northern Mexico with the support of the leftists. This alliance has pushed to Mormon and Texan borders, bringing overwhelming numbers to the region. The heaviest fighting of the war has clearly taken place in southern California and southern Mexico. Haitian forces landed in the Yucatan, securing Merida and part of the peninsula from minor leftist forces. South of Mexico City, leftist and imperial forces engaged in a massive battle, where eventually overwhelming leftist numbers prevailed, though the front has devolved into trench warfare and stalemated fighting. The imperial forces managed to drive northwards using superior numbers until the arrival of New French and native reinforcements from the far northern parts of the state. They also managed to sneak a small force from then newly retaken city of Hermosillo to seize control of La Paz and part of Baja California.

FLORIDIAN CIVIL WAR ENDS. St. Augustine, Florida. The military government of Florida recognized the Seminole Republic this year after Louisianan intervention. The Floridian regime has promised to allow full autonomy to the Seminoles, allowing them their own independent republic. They have also been forced to cede western Florida to the victorious Louisianans from Mobile to the border of Louisiana.
VIRGINIA HOLDS FIRST ELECTIONS. Richmond, Virginian Empire. The first elections of the Peoples House were held this year, opening up a new era of possible democracy for this North American nation. The moderate National Party has dominated the elections, pledging to support the king and nation in all of its endeavors. They have promised to give full backing to the Virginian military in both the Netherlands and the Middle East. However, in the wake of recent Dutch setbacks in the Middle East, the National Party has submitted to the king that perhaps a greater share of spoils in the region should fall to Virginia for the vast support and resources being provided. NEW ALLIANCE ESTABLISHED. Toronto, Canada. Diplomats from Canada, New England, and Virginia have announced the establishment of the United Nation-States of America. This alliance has been acknowledged as a way to maintain peace and stability in North America. The Gulf Alliance has expressed some concern towards this organization, believing it to be threatening to their interests in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.

SOCIALISTS SEIZE POWER IN LA PLATA. Urquizaville, La Plata Republic. In the wake of massive public demonstrations and unrest against the military government, Carlos Gomez has voluntarily stepped down from power. A socialist organization along the lines of Brazils government has been established in La Plata. Needless to say, this has significantly concerned the governments of Chile and Buenos Aires. Both governments have condemned the new socialist government and some politicians have even threatened military action.
ANARCHY AND CONFUSION IN BOLIVIA. Sucre, occupied Bolivia. With the apparent insanity of the standing leader of Bolivia; German, Chilean, and Paraguayan forces have moved in, smashing the Bolivian army with little difficulty. Overwhelming numbers destroyed Bolivian positions, and most Bolivians, tired of their nations ruler, simply surrendered. No one is quite sure what to do with the now occupied region, and German colonial authorities have demanded the withdrawal of Paraguays and Chiles armies.
FIRST INTERNATIONAL SOCIALIST MOVEMENT ESTABLISHED. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Brazilian government has completed the long anticipated Peoples Future program, opening up new unifying ties in other South American socialist nations. This organization promotes socialism and the unification of the socialist cause. The organization has met with massive success throughout South America. The management of the Peoples Future have suggested a possible international meeting of socialists and communist to discuss possible common cause and ideology.
UNIFICATION IN THE CARDS FOR BRAZIL? Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Several representatives of socialist nations along the eastern coast of South America discussed publicly this year of the possibility of a united socialist political union. Popular support has emerged for this move, and people have rallied in favor of this movement. This union would be a series of integrationist movements, particularly militarily and diplomatically. Many believe that this will heavily support stability in the region as well as assisting the growth of South America economically.
VENEZUELA MADE AN OFFER THEY COULDNT REFUSE. Caracas, Venezuela. With the Mexican Empire in chaos, Venezuela, considered the most stable nation in South America, found its happy tropical paradise interrupted. Aggressive negotiations between their leadership and the ambassador from New England has resulted in Venezuela joining the New England Imperial Protectorate. They were encouraged by the appearance of a New England naval squadron in Caracas harbor, and the Venezuelan congress voted in favor of joining the protectorate. Riots have broken out in Caracas and elsewhere against the new establishment. (-4 Stability)

RECESSION IN GREECE. Athens, Greece. A minor recession has begun in Greece, following a series of layoffs in the wake of last years socialist unrests. With the increase in the price of labor and the departure of several significant corporations, this recession has slightly damaged the overall Greek economy. Outside of Greece the recession has barely been noticed, and business more or less continues as usual. (-1 EP for Greece)
GREECE ELECTIONS. Athens, Greece. This years elections have been primarily dominated by the ongoing recession and various groups have begun to lobby for electoral victory, hoping to use the economic decline as a chance to bid for power. The Conservative Party, one of the main two political parties, has managed to use the recession to discredit the Liberal Party. They have promised to take a harder line on socialism within Greece and to get the factories and businesses open and running again. (-1 Stability)
RUSSIAN IMPERIAL ELECTIONS AND REFORM. St. Petersburg, Russian Imperial Federation. The Federalist Party won a major victory in this years elections, and have used this as their sign to past massive reform throughout the Russian Empire. Civil rights have been extended to all non-Slavs, bringing about greater equality than previously present. This includes the opening of schools to education outside of the Russian language and equal voting rights. Tsar Nicholas II has endorsed these reforms, even ceding some of the long standing monarchial powers to the Duma. Greater rights have been extended to the administrative regions of the empire, giving the locals opportunity to elect their own state leaders. Overall imperial continues to rest in St. Petersburg, where the Duma manages the affairs of the nation. As a final major announcement of the Federalist platform, they have announced a new Russian policy of isolationism from the worlds affairs, effectively ending the last remnants of the Entente. Some conservative resistance remains against the government and there has been rumors of unrest among the elite of the military. (-2 Stability)
ITALY ELECTIONS. Rome, Republic of Italy. This years elections have had low surprise for anyone involved in Italy. The government continues to be dominated by the Repubblicani Leali, who have capitalized on the success of the Great War to continue their dominance. They have also pledged to continue the development of the Italian military to be better able to compete on the global stage.
TENSIONS ON DUTCH-GERMAN BORDER. Arnhem, Empire of the Netherlands. Tensions have dramatically risen on the Dutch and German border. In response to duplicitous dealings by the Dutch and their refusal to support the war effort in Britain, the Germans have closed border trades between both powers and declared a national embargo on the Dutch Empire. In response to fears of invasion, the Dutch Royal Family is said to have left to Richmond, and Virginian military forces have been deployed to help secure the borders of the Netherlands. This has further heightened the tensions, and ambassadors and diplomats globally have called for peace between the two powers. (-1 EP for both Netherlands and Germany)
ANGLO-CELTIC WAR. Edinburgh, Celtic Union. Fighting has been definitively reduced on the front lines in this major conflict over the fate of the British Islands. Neither side launched a major offensive this year, instead slowly regrouping and rebuilding arms stockpiles. Fighting continued on the seas, as the English attempted to hunt down the Celtic navy with no luck. Instead the English and German blockades took a far more active approach, sailing in and destroying Irish harbors and ports in the hopes of cutting off trade. Some ships were sunk in the attacks on the ports, where coastal fortifications did their best to halt the attacks. Nonetheless, the Celts continue to build stockpiles in both regions even as some economic decline takes place as civilian trade is shattered. The Red Cross has condemned these actions by the English and has refused to send in further humanitarian supplies to English territory until the attacks on the ports of the Celts ceases.

SWEDES OPEN FIRST LUXURY CRUISES. Oslo, Swedish Empire. Swedish entrepreneurs have announced the creation of Royal Swedish Cruise Lines, an organization dedicated to providing luxury transportation and gambling from Europe to the Caribbean and North America. The first cruises were launched this year from Oslo to the Bahamas. Future trips are planned to favored destinations along the North American Atlantic coast, particularly Boston and Norfolk. African/Middle Eastern News Report
SUEZ WAR. Ankara, Ottoman Empire. After the Dutchs refusal to turn over control of the Suez Canal to the new nation of Egypt, the Ottomans backed their ally and declared war on the Netherlands. An Egyptian attack into Dutch territory performed miserably, the Dutch well prepared in positions established last year. The ensuing counterattack across the Canal forced the Egyptians far back. The heartland of Egypt fell to the Dutch invaders, though they managed to retain some footholds in the barren lands west of the Nile. The lack of any reserve along the Suez allowed the Ottomans to advance to the Canal without meeting any real resistance. Shelling of the Canal has heavily damaged it, making it nearly unnavigable to all ships. Observers estimate itll take a considerable amount of time and money to repair it, and the Dutch economy has been hurt from the loss trade. Following this disaster, the Dutch and their newly arrived Virginian allies crushed the Egyptians completely, and that nation has been annexed into the Empire of the Netherlands, though the government has fled into exile in the Ottoman Empire. In the southern part of Ottoman territory, a new faction has emerged, declaring the united Arab Federation. Backed by Dutch soldiers and heavy equipment, the Arabs have overwhelmed localized Ottoman garrisons, and secured control of first Riyadh, then Mecca and Medina. Though small in number, their use of Dutch heavy artillery has enabled them to reduce several Ottoman forces to ruin. To compound Ottoman woes, the Persians have invaded from the east, taking Baghdad and other parts of Mesopotamia. The Ottoman reserves were brought in, halting the much smaller Persia force and forcing them back. Only Baghdad remains in the control of Persia, as well as some small parts of the rich land between the Tigris and Euphrates.

NEW EMPEROR OF CHINA. Zhengzhou, Chinese Empire. The Guangzhou Emperor died this year of an apparent heart attack. The heir has been proclaimed the Xuantong Emperor, and is now in charge of the nation under a collection of regents, dominated mostly by the Korean ambassador. The regents have pledged to keep up the fight against the upstart Republic of China and have continued to grow the nations military. (+1 Stability)
FIGHTING IN CHINA CONTINUES. Zhengzhou, Chinese Empire. Imperial Chinese forces, with limited Korean support, have managed to force back republican Chinese military forces. Meanwhile, the Korean army has won several successes in Jiangxi, driving back both the local warlord and republican advocates. The Jiangxi warlord has been offered to join the republican cause, but has so far refused those offers. In response his own military defected, resulting in an overall collapse of his regime, particularly in combination with the Korean capture of his capital. The Republicans, despite setbacks in the east, have managed to score several major victories over the army of Yunnan, driving further south into that province. Guangxi has maintained a stalemate, as fighting subsides in that region. The Western blockade of the region has existed in name only, as Korean supply ships continue to easily enter the continent, as too few ships exist in the region to prevent such massive operations.
