Turn Discussion Thread

Point of clarification -- I don't think Merlot are taking over Mav cities -- the people on Merlot are logging in and playing both civs.

So any economic assumptions we had before should still be the same.

If it's weighting in their budget and they 180ed it why is it worring? Unless they station it near Rigel for lurking purposes(what we can use later on as a diversion, for example).

Dave: What? I thought Mavs wore to be integrated into Merlot colors.

EDIT2: ash88 wants the overtake, not the splitting of the Merlot team.

Nope their logging in as you can see on the Civstats, Indiansmoke and Slaze have already logged in as the Merlot and Mavs.

New turn update:

Alpha Centauri is building a forge, and I moved the warrior from Canopus into AC to garrison and deal with unhappiness. Canopus has finished barracks and is building an archer (garrison), and then should probably build a few macemen.

HUSch has finished the silk plantation in AC. Suggestions for next build? The silk 1W of HUSch's current location should probably get a cottage, since that tile can be worked by AC or Canopus. So maybe plantation the silk tile 1N if we want silk resources to trade around when Astronomy is done, or build the cottage first? Or have him do something else? pindicator finished chopping on the plains hill 2E of Canopus, and should probably mine that hill:

On Bode, the galley will move 1SE + 1S to the city a site and disembark the settler. AlphaShard will move 1E and start to mine.

Turn 104 - 275 BC

  • Enterprise moved 1SE + 1S, and settler disembarked to the city A (Procyon) site.
  • AlphaShard began mining the grassland hill 1E of the copper, and hell hound moved to the same hill.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0317.jpg

  • The Mavericks work boat continued north. Our new caravel moved east along the south coast of Sol to guard our north/east flank.
  • Toch finished mining the grassland hill between Alpha Centauri and Sirius. AC's new citizen is now working that mine to speed up the forge.
  • HUSch moved 1W to cottage the silk tile shared by Canopus and AC.
  • pindicator began mining the plains hill 2E of Canopus.
  • Canopus is now building an archer for garrison duty.

Questions for the upcoming (present) turn:

1. What do we build next in Canopus? A maceman? We could build a galley and upgrade to an East Indiaman once we get Astronomy. We could use this to scout/harass the Mavericks home island.
2. What should the worker in Rigel do? Improve the stone makes the most sense.

Edit: Shoot. HUSch, I forgot your micro for Rigel so I didn't change the tile assignments. How is that going to impact your micro plan?

Good work Trystero!

I'm trying to think long term for these cities as well,

Canopus & AC: SHould build a lighthouse eventually, I think it needs to give up a FP tile to Canopus to insure that Canopus can work all of it's tiles, Canopus has a +4 surplus and those Plains Hills Mines would suck that right up. Lighthouse would be good for both cities.

Arcuturus: Are we going to build any cottages or just Farms and mines? We can just keep pumping Macemen out for now. Unless we want a WB for Rigel?

Vega: It may be a little soon but I think Vega could whipe the forge and use the overflow for an archer.

Rigel: I agree were going to need more hammers for that city and I think whipping the granary would be a good idea has Irgy suggested and the overflow will hopefully get us that WB in 1 turn. I would like to discuss as well saving the forests for not just health cap but also for lumber mills and perhaps a few river tiles for either Workshops or watermills (I prefer the WS). As for the worker I do think the Marbel would be good to do next.

Sirius: Do we want to grow this city yet? If not either a worker or settler for the Horse site. We can do a temple or unit for happy cap.

I think the overriding issue to keep in mind is that we are at war now, and that we should be transitioning to building up enough military to take over the Mavericks home island.

Rigel: I agree with whipping. A WB seems reasonable, maybe a (cheap) library eventually? If we cottage, the cities on Anjennida will have a ton of commerce and not much production. I agree we could build workshops, and with saving the forests for lumbermills, if we need more production. Rigel on it's own should be able to construct all the settlers and workers for our Anjennida cities.

Arcturus: We have more than enough commerce elsewhere. I was thinking we go just mines and a couples of farms. It should make a good Ironworks city.

I think we can swap the FP cottage back and forth between Canopus and AC. I would like make Canopus into a production center for now.

The best plan for Rigel
This turn not whip and work marble, bananas and 2*forest (i 've changed there)
we 've then next turn
14/60 :hammers: and 15/28 :food:
Then whip and work marble and forest
14+75+6 :hammers: and 15/24 :food:
After turn
overlay 35/1,25= 28 :hammers: and 15/24 :food: with forest and bananas build we the wb to get then
:food: 20/24 :food:
and next turn with wb ready and working Bananas and clam 15/26 :food: after growing

In Sirius would I prefer a forge next turn
1. turn 0/120 to 28/120 :hammers:
2. turn 28/120 to 46/120 :hammers: with change from cottage to forest or mine (at Arc) and growing
3. turn 46/120 whip for 2 peoble without overlay (best by building a forge)

Arc have to build the guard for Vega, the mace must go there next turn

vote for worker
Toch at hill forest south of AC
cave at marble and build a quarry (I prefer) or NE at fp and build cottage. The western fp is for the new worker from Sirius.

I went with HUSch's micro suggestions for Rigel, delaying the whip:

Turn 105 - 250 BC

  • Procyon was founded at the city A site. It is working a grass hill and building a work boat for one of it's two clams.
  • Enterprise is returning to Sirius to pick up the worker for Rigel.
  • AlphaShard and hell hound are mining the grass hill shared by Arcturus and Procyon.
  • Lord Parkin finished mining the plains hill in Vega.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0326.jpg

  • On Bode, Canopus finished the archer, and is building a maceman.
  • Toch moved to forested plains hill south of Alpha Centauri.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0327.jpg

  • On Anjennida, caveman1917 moved to the marble to begin a quarry.
  • Our caravel is shadowing the Maverick work boat.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0328.jpg

No sign of any Maverick/Merlot units except a WB moving into the channel south of Bode.

Questions/issues:
What should Lord Parkin do next? Mine more hills in Arcturus? We'll need at least one more improved tile there soon.
Should we spend gold and upgrade Hebe to a maceman? Mavericks had chariots, so this would strengthen our southern defenses.
Should we move the maceman on the horse hill on Anjennida south to scout annd to try to block Maverick/Merlot troops from approaching Bode that way?
HUSch has suggested a forge next for Sirius. Any dissenting views? I was thinking another worker for Bode as one alternative.
I am also inclined to go with AlphaShard's suggestion and build a lighthouse in Canopus after the mace.
Longer term: What should we do after Astronomy?

Have LP build another mine, we don't need food yet so we can put that off for now.
Yeah I like upgrading units as well so I like that plan for Hebe.
I think it would be good to move the Maceman on the Horse hill south. I still want to keep the area fogbusted to make sure no barbs pop up until we can get out Horse city up. I think we should get our Horse city up, I know that's expanding quickly but we can take a break from settlers after that and focus on our army. We really need to get our Horses going.

Our new City Procyon really needs two workers on it to get rid of all that jungle. Isn't Sirius on a worker right now? I think we can take that worker to Procyon, I do agree with Husch we need a Forge in Sirius.

I feel like Sol is pretty well developed and Bode is coming along nicely.

I realize now that the Lighthouse will provide the extra food it needs to work those Plains hills and continue to grow.

I'd like to go for Guilds if were anywhere near that... +1 Hammer workshops and Knights, can't go wrong with that.

Next turn is up:

The worker finished in Sirius, and Enterprise is on it's way back to pick it up. HUSch thinks we need the extra worker at Rigel, and AlphaShard has suggested Procyon. Which will it be? We have one more turn to decide.

I upgraded Hebe to a maceman. The new maceman finished in Arcturus is moving to garrison Vega. I set the next build in Arcturus as an archer as a placeholder. We can use it to garrison Procyon or Vega, eventually. The other option is to just build another maceman. I think maces are wasted as garrison units, so I think we need some archers (to upgrade to longbows later).

One thing to consider: Mavericks have elephants, and have been running police state for a while. We would be in big trouble if a stack of war elephants headed into Bode. I therefore think we should research Engineering (for Pikemen) after Astronomy.

I want to move LP to this hill to mine:

Civ4ScreenShot0329.jpg

Any objections?

It looks like barbs will take care of the maverick WB:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0330.jpg

I think I will move the southern maceman on Anjennida toward the south end of the arm. The mace in Rigel can handle any nearby barbs.

Also I will whip the granary in Rigel.

Maybe Rigel should build another worker itself and send the Worker on enterprise to Procyon. How many workers are on Bode now? It seemed like there were 2 or 3 so I wasn't certain. Procyon is surrounded by stagnating jungle, it can't grow until it gets more workers. Rigel is already pretty well grown and doesn't face any stagnation problems, it can build it's own worker much faster then Procyon can. We want Vega and Arcturus to build war units.

I agree the macemen should be for attacking but there is nothing wrong with building a stock of them now.

Also speaking of the Mavericks, should we considering building a fort at the apex of the spokes to prevent lands units from entering Bode or Andromeda spokes?

Now (too late :D) I see are 2 possibilities for Prokon.
1. Prokyon work the mine, build a wb and grow then with it
2. prokyon build granary and the wb build another town (Arc), when the granary is ready (too late, because we lost then the 2 :hammers: for wb)

In the moment I see no need for additional worker near Prokyon, but the worker has 2 turns before he can go onboard. I don't know, the forest (S of Sirius) is chopped 1 turn or not, the worker can chop there (If we chop in the 3. turn it's good, if not there are some lost) and then build a mine (or go on enterprise), to get 12 netto :hammers: => 21 for units with forge.
Enterprise can take the worker later to Rigel.

Prokyon work the mine, I 've changed the tile. now 7 turns for wb.
8/22 :food: with clam 4 turns for growing to pop 2.
I would like to go with LP over the road Hell build next turn to the pigs tile.
Hell goes SE or SW to road, both tiles have merits.

Don't forget to whip in Rigel and work at marble forest

As far as I can tell there is no mine in Procyon.

As far as I can tell there is no mine in Procyon.

It is the mine that was just completed by you and hell hound on the hill shared with Arcturus. :)

I just finished the turn, following the suggestions made: I whipped the granary in Rigel (working marble + forest), hell hound moved 1SE to start a road, LP is moving toward Procyon, the new worker in Sirius (T. Claudius) moved 1S to chop that hill, Toch started a chop 1S of AC. I will post the report in a few hours.

I am going to be busy this week. HUSch do you want to take a turn being the turnplayer? If not, I can continue until AlphaShard's computer is fixed.

Update will follow soon.

Turn 106 - 225 BC

  • The mine between Arcturus and Procyon is finished. hell hound moved 1SE to build a road to Procyon.
  • Lord Parkin is moving to the pigs jungle hill near Procyon.
  • Hebe has been upgraded to a maceman.
  • The new maceman (Metis) finished in Arcturus and is moving to garrison Vega.
  • The next build in Arcturus is an archer to garrison Vega or Procyon.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0334.jpg

  • The new worker (T. Claudius) in Sirius moved to the plains hill 1S to chop while waiting for Enterprise.
  • Toch started chopping the plains hill 1S of Alpha Centari.
  • The Archer garrisoning Canopus has been named Flora.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0332.jpg

  • We whipped the granary in Rigel. Overflow hammers will go to a work boat.
  • The maceman on the horse hill (Juno) moved 1SW to start scouting.
  • A barb galley appeared north of the Mavericks work boat. Our second caravel wil let in dispense with the Mavericks work boat.
