The Ascent of Mankind

So there I was... Civilization 5 was on my screen and a newly built city had just come into virtual existence. Pressing the Windows button, I select FireTuner and add all the population and gold necessary to the new city to test the new AMM project the SDI. Little did the virtual people of this virtual town know about projects and could not build it nor could they buy it. I Windowed out again scavenging FireTuner for the SDI building in the city tab to give the city the project for testing but to no avail. Slightly ticked I mercifully and swiftly ended the poor virtual people's lives of that game and decided to trust Firaxis in their ability to make XML tags that they themselves have not used but have made. Maximizing ModBuddy I went into the Online Services and uploaded the new AMM version. Bored yet wanting to mod, I decided to crack open the Rom modmods subforum and found it completely deserted with a fine film of dust over it from it's abandonment in anticipation of the new Civ 5 game. Going back to ModBuddy, I closed the Advanced Missiles Mod project and clicked 'New Project' and typed in the words for the project name 'The Ascent of Mankind'.

This post from here on out is to the Civilization V reincarnation of a mod idea that never made it to Civilization IV however was intended for V in the first place. Even though this is in the Civ IV forum, the Civ V anticipation thread back on the main Rise of Mankind subforum is too. Here I will be marking my progress on the ATOM project until RoM gets its own Civ V subforum. After all, it will still be a Rom modmod.

Keep in mind this is a backburner project until AMM is closer to finishing along with some real technology outlines for the next RoM iteration. In addition to this I will be helping RoM achieve its need for custom models/art.

As far as 'Analyze Strings' vs 'String Analysis' goes, it's rather redundant. It could go either way and doesn't matter which way, I picked the former over the latter simply because it came to mind first and saw no reason why to think twice about it.

EDIT: Now that I've pondered on this for a little bit, I see where you're coming from.
 
A minuscule tidbit of info on progress that I thought would deserve a thread bump:
I have put in a few techs to the tree and successfully put the Spacepedia on the windows options in the drop down menu. Also, I renamed the Spacepedia to Astropedia, I thought the word Astropedia flowed off the tongue and sounded better. Now I have to add the rest of the techs and implement the actual Astropedia screen outline.
 
Will ATOM ever be available for CIV IV RoM?

I hope so.

I will never play CiV until it is released Steam Free.

Civ V will most likely just stay on steam the entire time. I personally haven't come across any problems with it, I see no reason why to boycott it. It's free and if you buy Civ V from your local game store, you won't have to pay steam a penny. Just sign up and register the product.
 
I think he may have issues with Steam.

I know a friend whose computer could never run steam properly due to an appaling internet connection.

He eventually got around it by installing it on another computer, but it was still a lot of extra hassle.
 
M'kay since Civ V has been nothing but disappointments in the way of Lua Callbacks/Hooks, AMM has come to a complete halt in its development. This means that I will now be turning all of my modding attention to getting this mod developed. I am currently trying to get the Astropedia (a.k.a. Spacepedia, I renamed it) to appear in game, I have the name in the screens list, I just need to work on getting the actual screen to appear. Reason for this is that Kael's guide on the new screens is a bit of a waste in the sense that his screen is only for his events. Every screen would require a few different things and in this sense I am restarting the XML part from scratch with the NotificationLogPopup.xml which is the same file that Kael used as a base to make his screen.

EDIT: Screen is working, now I just have to edit the layout... I'm thinking of refining the screen layout we had going. Instead of a list like in Civ IV, we'll have the drop down menus like in V.

Well to be honest, I really don't want to wrestle with python to get the screen to show. I wrote that out of haste and anger and actually do prefer to mod for Civ V but Civ V modding seems grim however lemmy101's recent discoveries about Civ V modding really clarifies quite a few things for me.

About ATOM and RoM in general in the way of techs, I have thought of a few things after reading this article. It shows a lot of scientific breakthroughs that have been suppressed from the public eye and due to peer pressure(overly simplified term) have been named faulty off of no evidence. One Civic/Policy that could be implemented would be Interest Groups gives the civ happiness/gold in exchange for a very common event that will postpone the discovery of any tech for 1-10 turns, this would also make opposite techs be almost impossible to achieve. Also I was thinking of implementing those breakthroughs as their own techs, not only because I can but why not? I thought that these extra techs would fit in nicely with Hydro's thought of different tech branches for failure/successes.
From this article I would add:

Cold Fusion vs. Hot Fusion (As I said from Interest Groups, the more beakers you put into one, the more impossible it is to research the other)

Relativity vs. Ether

General Relativity vs. Graviton Theory

Inherent Property vs. Dimensional Oscillation(This is from the Quantum Theory section of the article. I chose Inherent Property because the Quantum Theory merely points this out and either Inherent Property can be assumed or Dimensional Oscillation(used by neutrinos) which can allow for extra-dimensional mass be converted into inter-dimensional energy using E=MC²)

Thermodynamics(general name) vs. Semiconductor Energy Recycling (again, not available at the same time)

Special Relativity vs. Superluminal Signals

Then there's also:
Force Field (combines the 'Antigravity' with the Repulsive Force Beams)(also not to be confused with the term 'Force Field' that means a shield of force around a given object, the Force Field I'm proposing is a 3 dimensional field that forces matter(combined with Attometer Engineering, this could as well lead to Atomizing))


The reason why I hadn't put Force Field versus anything is because The fact that gravity may be able to be controlled doesn't mean you understand what it is. The field generated from a rotating superconductor may be able to act upon matter like gravity, but since gravity attracts matter between each other and doesn't repel it, it can be just about anything.
 
So now that we have decided to include AToM into Prehistoric NWA I guess the first step would be figuring out how many spaces over to the right the techs need to be moved to. I need to figure it out too since the firestorm and sports mods use techs. The nice part about having all 3 of these mods together is how we can interweave them if we need to. Such as how i proposed before the science mod crossover or maybe even a prehistoric space tech such as "Stargazing" could be one.
