The Ascent of Mankind

In terms of modeling galactic civilization I have utmost respect for David Brin and his Uplift series. I believe it when he says he gave humans the best possible realistic first contact situation with his Civilization of Five Galaxies. If the universe was a free for all the civilization with even a slight technological advantage would have no problem with preying upon everyone weaker until they too find someone more powerful then they. With a continuous civilization over the past 1 billion years there are rules and while war among the few dozen or so "clans" of aliens and their vassals do exist they are at least highly regulated by the institute of civilized warfare (and can be easier modeled in a civilization game I think).

Does anyone at all know the series I'm talking about?

AtOM is being developed for Civ 4, as far as I understand.

(Can't remember whether the deciding factor was better modibility, greater familiarity with the mod tools or just better base coding, but i'm fairly certain the decision stands.)

EDIT: and quintuple posts are horrible. :(

Hi Folks

If you're interested in this old project you might be interested in something new. Right now I'm trying to prototype a procedural technology web (non-linear) and wondered if you'd be interested in joining our open source gaming revolution.

It's going to be like Civ but much more procedural generation and it will start on Earth but expand into space. (Pretty much this mod.) It's all going to be browser based too!
