Deity Challenge 4 - The Huns. Arborea.

LOL, this is just cruel.

True, true.. But if you win, you'll feel good about yourself ;)

Normally I would consider a Great Library rush with a woody start like this, but I don't know whether it's viable when all the AIs also have a woody start. Opinions?

You have a 99% chance if you can do it before turn 27. 5% chance if you do it after turn 30.

I was thinking pyramids. Chop, chop

What was i thinking? Nice idea..

Spoiler :
I am up to turn 100 btw, went 5 city liberty (NC @ turn 85), 2 more cities just planted to cut off 'my continent' from everyone else. So, yeah, culture gonna be a problem. Again :D.

I'm not gonna look at this anymore until I get started. I already know too much.

Just bought all the dlc I don't have. Won't go for a CV this time, have been thinking a little to make it a bit harder. I think I'll do OCC to make it fun :D will raze all the cities (except capitols, which i'll puppet) and try to get domination victory.

I'm not going to bother spending 5 bucks on Korea, but from now on can we keep it to just G&K and the regular game, not even GOTY?

Dunno, i really think the WOTAW adds a lot to the game. As they seem to be coming out very regularly, It might be good to have a mix so players with fewer add ons can play some, but those with all of them don't get annoyed that they're not playing all the game, and can just choose the full ones if they want.

Is that a gut feel estimate, or did somebody actually run numbers on this? Although I must say, the Pyramids do sound like an excellent idea for this.

Just a personal estimate. GL almost always gets finished around turn 30 in my Deity games.

I agree, the ancient wonders are cool, both in themselves and by taking pressure off other early wonders. I particularly like the Temple of Artemis. That said, if I post more Deity Challenges, I will be sure to include more no-DLC saves so that people have a variety to choose from.

As for Challenge 4, I'm thinking Liberty for expansion and more worker productivity, although Tradition for a tall capital with marble is tempting. So many valid choices! That's my favorite thing about the Deity Challenge series so far: While they've all been tricky in some way, they have all been wide open in terms of possibilities.

So I'm curious to hear other opinions on wide versus tall here. I'm thinking, with all the trees it's best to grab as much land as possible, maybe even ICS. Which suggests Liberty –> Collective Rule, although Liberty –> Citizenship –> Representation is also tempting. Maybe I'll go for a wide culture game. :D

Pyramids & four workers at turn 33... choppy chop chop.

Teched straight for Masonry, popped pottery with a rune and also got a culture rune. I unlocked liberty and took free worker. I borrowed money to rush buy a second worker. Improved the marble first and then chopped everything else.

Build order was scout - monument - granary - shrine - pyramids.

Sadly meeting two religious city states and getting the shrine wasn't enough to get me a pantheon and I'm caught in the usual deity situation of being 1-2 faith short just as another AI founds a pantheon. Probably won't be able to get religion this game so I'll maybe take monument to the gods and maybe go for more early wonders with the 30% bonus, Oracle will be a definite.... dunno what else I'll go for, it's probably too late for artemis and stonehenge.

Domination win at turn 258.

I thought of doing a cultural victory or such, but I got bored just sitting there. ;)

This was by far the easiest of the diety challanges so far. If you are immortal player and want to try your first diety, this is a nice map.

Peter, what is your favorite time to start the rampage?

Do you start around turn 60 with CB, or do you prefer Xmen, knights and such, or later armies? How many units do you accumulate (and of what type) before you DoW your first/second victim? Would be interesting to know.

Seeing sheer numbers of units AI has floating around i always seem to back away from fighting midgame and onwards, but i'd like to learn how it is done properly :). I know, practice is the key, but i'd appreciate some pointers.

Well done, your domination times are improving, btw.

I got owned this game. I took over all the AI cities who settled near me but could never take anything east of the mountains and ended up playing out a doomed science game which was stunted by early failed warmongering and constantly being declared on late game.

I guess the lesson is, if you're going to start wars early and you don't win, you're pretty much screwed as the AI will hate you and you'll be behind in science. I might try this one again, this time using the forests to chop out buildings and settlers rather than wonders.

Well, on this super defensive map, I did a clean 4 tradition boom start, with absolutly no military. I was so far away from the others, with mountains in between also.

So here I started fighting later, did as much science I could and started my first war with artillery. On a map with a lot of rough terrain I like the indirect fire from siege.

Early warfare is harder nowdays I think with the much improved AI. When I do, I do the bow line mostly.

I didnt have much luck with the pyramids either. I went Tradition, mining>masonry and got them but I think you have to go pottery first and take your chances. By about turn 80 or 90 I was going nowhere and the arabs were starting to settle 'my lands'.

You'll be happy for that wonder pack.

Old Peter - I am just curious, after you started to attack with artillery, how many turns before you won domination?

Finished with science victory on turn 254.

This game reminded me pre-patch. I settled 2 more cities after NC (turn 85) for a total count of 7. Didn't build any army, just 4 archers, one HA and a battering ram, which i got from ruin. They rested at the north - eastern border of my empire after the barb situation was taken care of. I tried being more diplomatic this time and managed to have good/mediocre relationships with all civs.

Took engineer from Liberty and rushed Leaning Tower. GS from leaning tower i settled. Also, i managed to hard build Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower, got beaten to Sistine Chapel though.

Cities grew slowly and i never rushed a single scietific building, everything was hard built. No RAs were signed. AI's were fighting fiercely between each other though, but no one became a true runaway. Elizabeth managed to take out Harun during last 20 turns of the game.

Didn't bother with religion much, so in the end i only managed to get one GE (Hubble) out of it.

All in all, peaceful builder game, something i didn't have on Deity for a long time. :)
