Mesoamerican Galley

Does it use the galley or trireme animation?
It works fine with the Trireme animation... though I haven't tried it with the Galley animation.

Now we need some ancient African ships!

Wow these are great and are definitely going in the next version of my mod!!

You continue to be one of my favorite unit makers.

I have a Mesoamerican Caravel, Galleon and Ship of the Line almost finished, so if a mod sees this can they please change the thread title to Mesoamerican Ships?
I still can't understand why the thread starter can't rename his own thread... I think this is the only forum I've ever seen where the thread starter can't do this on his own... simply weird! :scan:

Chugg, are you contemplating African ancient ships, or not even on the radar?

The option is there to rename it, but it doesn't do anything after saving it. I suppose it's just one of those things nobody can be bothered to fix. :p

If you find some good African ship pictures I'll make them after the Meso and Asian ones, but the thing is I have no idea at the moment of how an African ship is supposed to look.

Neither do I!

Then again, I had no idea what a South American "fleet" looked like either!

I'll see what I can come up with though!

Well, the Africans didn't really have any indigenous ship designs (if we're talking about sub-Saharan Africa), but they did have a lot more ship traffic of foreign-designed ships than the South Americans prior to their eventual fall to European conquest.

I haven't done my search yet, but I'm perfectly fine with "what-if" African ships... heck, even some slight tweaks to the Meso ships with some "Africanization" of the ships would probably be just fine.

Like I said, I have yet to look though... there might be something "real" out there... I haven't checked yet.

Maybe in a uncolonized Africa some of the ships would've taken after egyptian ships.

Thanks for the pictures and ideas! :D I'll make one or two based on Geo's and Anubis' (the designs kind of look similar). The Egypt idea is good as well, because I plan on making Egyptian and Middle Eastern ships as well. I can use parts of the Egyptian ships to make more African ships. :p

Of course the Egyptian ones need to made first...

Chuggi, I went digging for Ancient African ships (ie: African excluding Carthage or Egypt) and I pretty-much drew a blank of anything beyond a canoe.

Of course Egypt is a different story, but I've always been of the thought process that Egypt doesn't really share much in common with Mali, Ethiopia or the Zulu, and Ancient Egyptian vessels aren't radically different from the default ancient ships (though certainly you could make them so, as there is definitely different ships you could model). The Mali, Ethiopians and Zulu on the other hand, I just don't see them in the default ships (and historically, they probably didn't have much beyond canoes either).

On a side note, there's a lot of decent info on ancient Minoan ships which (while more-or-less greek), and Phoenician ships, which might be pawned-off to another Mediterranean power or even african or something, just to get a different look.

This is just a preview... if you want more along these lines, I can dig up more if you want, but I'm basically saying for Mali, Ethiopians and Zulu I drew a blank. May need to borrow from another culture to get ships for them (maybe Phoenicia or Minoa), or just go totally creative and dream something up.

I just finished uploading the rest of the Mesoamerican ships that I've completed.

They are great, you seem to be missing a Frigate though ;)

EDIT: maybe this is your chance to squeeze in a catamaran :D
