Deity Challenge 4 - The Huns. Arborea.

Turn 50:

Spoiler :
Used Tabarnak's Tradition opener, did manage to found a pantheon because I did a quest for Jerusalem, went Fertility Rites. Got Pyramids using Wargizmo's build order. Currently building an army so I can attack either Denmark or England.

Instead of a GOTM-style playthrough, I've been fiddling with this one to see what works and what doesn't.

Spoiler :
Rushing the Great Library definitely doesn't work – while the AI isn't building it until about turn 33-34, that's still about two turns faster than I can manage even with all this forest. Rushing the Pyramids does work, but I'm not sure whether it's really worth it. The extra workers seem more expensive than helpful at first, although they're quite useful after Liberty expansion. Built the Oracle and then ran into trouble with hitting my 7th policy before Medieval. Oops. Actually, pacing has been my major problem throughout here. I've just been starting to get the hang of the Tradition quad opening, and now I'm trying Liberty and feeling at sea. I'm not sure whether I should play this out or start over tall.

My second attempt gave me a Science victory turn 246

Went tradition, but did not go for an early wonder this time. Teched Mining -> Pottery -> Writing > calendar (from a rune) -> Trapping -> Wheel -> Masonry -> Philosophy

Built 4 horse archers early, which were really useful for hunting down barb camps and doing city state quests.

I did not hard build any settlers and took +1 food from camps for pantheon, I wanted to get my cap as large as possible.

Built Oracle before national college. Finished NC about turn 85 off 3 cities, settled 4th city the same turn NC finished.

I missed out on founding a religion, and so I knew I wouldn't have the happiness to support any warmongering, decided that science was probably the best option.

I hard built universities and used my gold on research agreements, I had RAs with Iroquois, Ethiopia, Arabia and Denmark the whole game, and towards the end with Egypt too.

My second tree was Patronage and I took Aesthetics, this helped me a lot with culture and happiness.

I missed out on Pisa but managed to hard build the Porcelain tower.

England was grumpy all game, and eventually started settling in my area. I teched up to flight and took over 3 English cities that were in my territory around turn 180 ish.

I settled only 3 great scientists and saved the rest. Rationalism finisher gave me Satellites and I hard built Hubble.

Last wave of research agreements hit around turn 230. I popped the 7 great scientists I had saved up; this got me almost all the way there but not quite, a faith bought great scientist came slightly too late and shaved about 4 turns off final tech.

Capital was a production powerhouse, the final spaceship part only took 3 turns to build.

Final policy was order opener but it was too late to be very useful, other that a bit of extra happiness which let me sell off a few more luxuries to rush buy a nuclear plant.

I tried a second time and rage quit when arabia planted a city in the eastern spot right in the first ring. We hadnt even met yet!

Turn 253 Domination Victory

Spoiler :

Settled on top of the marble for the immediate wonder construction boost.

Research: Pottery--> Archery--> The Wheel -->Mathematics-->Philosophy

Initial Build Order: Scout-scout-shine-granary-watermill-archer/horse archer - The hanging garden - Library -units- NC

SP: Tradition, wonder construction bonus early.

Two scouts help a lot exploring in this forested map and meet religious CSs first, so second to found a patheon to generate faith from unforested tundra.

Grow the capital a lot til pop 10 or 11 after hanging garden and NC, so the 3rd - 5th city were quite late. (I forgot if NC was after 2nd city or not, maybe bought a library in 2nd city)

Two military units were guarding the two entrance points as shown in this picture to block settler travelling from the mountains (they have to travel via water, so spare units were sent to block AI settlers or hunt them down). I also Dowed Arab early because the settlers were running naked, so free workers, yeah! Arab hated me any way because I stole a CS worker under his protection. The build order does not have spare hammer for a worker so I have to steal one asap.

After Education, beeline to military tradition and dymamite. use the last wave of lux cash to upgrade 6 horse archers and 4 battering rams. the free promotion was nice to have on both type of units.

England is quickly running away, she must be stopped. With 6 artilaries and 6 calvaries, I was able to take out the fringe cities of England and took London before air units and great war infantorys shown up. but I could not hold London so I made a peace treaty to give London back.

During the peace treaty, I got the Great Artist from hanging garden. The Golden Age increased my gpt greatly to 150+, so I borrowed more than 3000+ cash from AI. buy oils from AI, use GS to bulb Flight and buy triple-promoted great war bombers. After the peace treaty, I immediately took London, so England's only oil deposite was under my control.

After England was taken down, the rest AIs were not big threat.

Failded Oracle, but built HS to enhance. Religious beliefs still focus on active spread. In total, I bought 3 GS, 2 GE, 2 GP (8000+ faith).
1 GE used for Brandenburg Gate, 1 GE for Hubble. 2 GS goes to bulb Satelite after Plastics.

This game reminded me pre-patch. I settled 2 more cities after NC (turn 85) for a total count of 7. Didn't build any army, just 4 archers, one HA and a battering ram, which i got from ruin. They rested at the north - eastern border of my empire after the barb situation was taken care of. I tried being more diplomatic this time and managed to have good/mediocre relationships with all civs.

What is your general opening when you play liberty moriarte?
Also how do you get NC t85 with 5 cities, do you buy/chop the libraries, and do you get libraries before anything else?

Yes, i chopped 4 libraries and bought one with cash, i think. Also, i think i made a mistake of picking tradition opener. I recorded the game from turn 45 onwards, check it out if you like. Quality is bad though :(.
