Gliese's Deity Game #2, Zara Yaqob

I've played another 11 turns and the medicine gambit turned out well, the army is costing a sh_tload of money to upgrade though 6-7 turns (2 more needed atm) of 100% gold slider with my second GA running!
I'm still in US & I adopted OR at start of the GA but I was thinking of switching to Police State and Theo at last turn of it. Mount Rushmore will also be built by then which would give me 0 WW in the coming wars and even faster military production which could be good in many of my cities (HE-city and IW-city already has massive prod).
Good news is that Joao and WK is intensifying war and seems to be about equal in power so huge grindfest there.

I'm assuming the goal will be to sabotage city production for HC as that costs around 800 something EPs before modifiers whereas sabotaging completed projects costs around 20k(!), am I right in this? How do I know where he's building spaceship parts, do I just gamble?

Dan: I don't have Combustion and it would take ages to sail to the other continent unfortunately even though I gave the half-dozen galleons I built earlier nav1. Going there would mean I probably would have no time to bring the army back again in case I needed to attack someone on my own continent. As of now HC is in the lead for space win but Joao's built 5 thrusters so he's a contender if HC is disrupted. Liz built the UN so a vote would be between me and HC which I'm guaranteed to lose unfortunately.

pau17: Sometimes an early rush can be good on deity, especially if you have an early UU that helps in this like the quechua, praetorian, war chariot, immortal or vulture. More often than not however from my limited experience on this level the AI just rexes to fast for a quick early strike. In this game the distance was far to great to contemplate a rush and furthermore nappy had copper in his bfc and I only had horses in any case.
 
Howmuch EP do you need to see city builds? I think a spy inside a city will let you see automatically, and you'll want turns spent in cities and a lead in EP for lowering espionage costs. Police sstate seems a good idea; with nationhood and theo you could pump out vast numbers of units with 2 promos.

Ha! Doesn't that make me look like a fool. I didn't know you couldn't capture projects.
 
Round 8, 1575 AD - 1680 AD (The end, 21 turns).

I will make this post short as this game also ended with my concession. I might have bested Nappy and Joao but HC is simply to far gone for me to stop him.

1575: I decided to start the round with the gamle of going for Medicine in order to trade it for both Artillery and Electricity.

1580: HC adopts HR, that's strange. The war between Joao and WK is having some effect, they both spawn GGs.

1585: ANother GG for WK.
UN BIDL (Liz). I vote for HC, temporarilly bumping him to friendly.

1600: Space Elevator BIDL (HC).
Apollo Program BIDL (Joao).

1605: Hollywood BIDL (HC). SS Thrusters BIDL (HC).

1610: Medicine -> Industrialism. My gambit is successful and I trade the tech around.

All in all a pretty high return.

1615: 3x Thrusters BIDL (Joao).
Mining Inc. FIDL (Liz).
A UN vote is held to stop the war between Joao and WK, I vote no.
A GM is born in Lalibela, I use him with my saved GE to start my second golden age.
I switch theocracy to organized religion and queue-build units in my military cities.

1620: The vote for peacekeeping is in and it fails. Joao captures an island from WK he has moved a big part of his troops off the continent. Joao completes his last two thrusters.
HC completes Stasis Chamber.

1630: WK captures a different island from Joao.

I've lost the rest of my notes but I'll put in a summary. There was a vote for global civic environmentalism that I defied. At the end of the GA I switched to Police State and Theocracy and declared war on Nappy (and thus Joao) as soon as I had upgraded my army to infantry and artillery.
My troops captured Tours but I was unable to take Paris after Joao reinforced Nappys troops there.

It was a bit desperate attacking before I had access to tanks and before I had gathered a sizable anti-tank force at the front but HC was 2 techs away from what he need for his space win.
Unfortunately Joao quickly mobilized despite his war with WK (I was hoping it would keep most of his forces occupied but he sent some horrific armies my way nevertheless).
I conceded after losing Marseilles to the onslaught after having a look at the victory screen.

HC had just gotten fusion here so he had no doubt started on engines and only needed to tech composites and build the casings to complete his launch.

So there it is, my second attempt and my second loss, at least I made it a bit longer this time before conceding. :crazyeye:
I'm not giving up though, sooner or later I'm bound to stumble my way to victory. :lol:

Great game G, I learn a lot from these play-along's. I dont comment much since my level is significantly lower, and I really feel that ANY comparison to Deity from other levels is Apples and Oranges.
