Can you help with some clarification please?

If I station a land military unit in a city (i.e. garrison) it makes the city stronger.

1. Is this in both attack and defence?
2. Do the unit's promotions have any effect whilst it is garrisoned (e.g. cover)?
3. If the unit is a ranged type and it fires, is any benefit to the city lost that turn?

Thanks.

1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Depends on version, I believe with Vanilla civ (where you had a "garrison" button) it did terminate bonuses when ranged unit fired. Now it doesn't (not sure if this change was BNW or G&K, but I believe they did away with "garrison" button in G&K...)

#3 In Vanilla what you wanted to do was city bombard before waking up the ranged bombard to avoid the above loss. And in addition, the following turn, hit garison again on the unit; then city bombard, then again wake up the unit.
Thankfully, G&K eliminated that micro-management need.

Thanks Guys - that's what I thought but I wanted to check.
