Tips for beginning stage

Hi,
I have recently started playing civilization 5.
I wonder, I play the game at the fastest pace setting so buildings and research take less turns. Yet I see people playing at normal pace and at around 166 turns they already have
+750 science and 230 gold per turn. I am at 125 turns, have 3 cities and I only have 179 science and around 42 gold per turn. How can you get such a strong economy. I am playing domination gamemode by the way.

First, for domination, it's always going to be lower than other more peaceful victory due to having to build more units and less infrastructures. Also you can only get more science by building science buildings, and growing your cities as population translate to more science.

The game balance is surprising fragile. New players playing anything other than standard size, standard pace, with the default number of AIs and CS are not likely to have an enjoyable game. If you want to compare your experiences, things also get tricky the more you deviate from standard default settings.
