Chapter II: Wilderness
A history by Althorian Faunheed, scribe of Evermore
The first distinct period of Ljosalfar history in the New age was that of exploration of the new lands surrounding the elven tribes.
The elven heralds that had been sent forth at the founding of Evermore discovered much in the coming weeks. They found lush forests to the south and plains to the west. These lands were empty save for a few human villages, which were friendly, and gave gold and information on surrounding region.
Evermore, though a beautiful city, and majestic by any standard, was not well run. There was no real army, no effeicient way to cultivate food from surrounding lands, and few lived there, prefering the forests' solitude.
Tor'Annor
In past times, the Tower of Tor'Annor was a trading post for the Kraz-Ke-Zun, a tribe of dwarves. In the Age of Ice, it fell into ruin, and the dwarves left for more secluded areas, safe from Mulcarn's cold. The tower remained, a reminder of past glory. Viran Leafthorn, leader of one of the Scout bands, came upon this tower, only weeks after he left evermore.
He could see for miles on end. Packs of lions roamed the plains, and to the Northwest was a village of men. But it was not like other villages. It was large and proserous. Viran, determined to find the source of it's prosperity, traveled to it.
"The Village was the largest I had ever saw.The source of the population was soon discovered... Rows of corn and wheat were on the outskirts of the village. Humans cultivated them, and their harvest was plenty... The humans were kind, and were willing to share their ways with us...
- Viran Leafthorn, First Scout of the Ljosalfar
And so the secret of Agriculture was tought to the elves. The band of elves Thessa was having trained would use this secret to enrich Evermore's granary, and the Elves would be able to grow in numbers.
The South
While Viran Leafthorn explored the eastern plain of Tor'Annor, Hyll Westleaf searched the southern forests, dubbed Forest of Tears for the hardships encountered here.
The Forest of Tears was full of life. Wild grape vines and corn stalks were abundant.Deer and other animals roamed it's glades. But with such abundant food, came predators. Wolves, lions, and bears stalked the woods, but they were nothing compared to the beast of Esus, the Giant Spider.
Hyll Westleaf and his band of Heralds were slain and devoured by the beast of Esus, but not before discovering something that would forever change the realm of elfdom, the Amurites.
The Amurites
The Amurites were a tribe of humans, brought together by Kylorin in the Age of Ice. They were the ones who defeated Mulcarn and ended his cruel reign. For this we were in their debt.
The Amurites were lead by Dain the Caswallan, the chief of the Magi. The society was goverened by those with magical abilites.Dain was in every way the best among the Amurites, and an equal to Thessa and her sister in the Arcane. Though the Amurites were very close to Evermore, it was a fact that the two would benefit from each other.
It was soon after this that Varin, leader of the eastern heralds, was too devoured by animals.
Amelanchier and Devin
Amelanchier, the most warlike of the elves, was not interested in the arts, and preffered a good hunt to a beautiful song. He spent his time drawing up battle plans, and planning (in secret) invasion routes for the Amurites. He was a kindly man, but ruthless.
Devin was in every way his opposite. He was handsome, a pacifist and an artist above all. Every night he would sing to the Queen, and sing poems to those elves gathered in the forests.
It is odd that both of these men had so much to do with each other's success. A recent trade had been made with the Amurites in which maps were exchanged. To the south of Cevedes, the Amurite city, was a vast forest, in which the Pool of Tears was. This pool was where angels, particularly of Sirona, goddess of Wisdom, came to weep.
Devin was entranced by the idea of meeting an angel. He wished to lead an expedition of elves to learn what he could from the angels. Thessa, who was fond of the Aasimar, was unhappy with his departure, but allowed him to go. Less than a week later, he and a group of six elves traveled south.
Devin, while in Evermore had discouraged a full time army, as well as war with the Amurites. Amelanchier, with his opponent gone, struck. He approached the queen with eloquent words, asking to organize an ary. Thessa, distrought with the absence of her love, gave in.
Amelanchier would train four platoons to protect Evermore. After this, a group of elves would move south to settle a second city. The idea came into action.
With this the period of exploration ended for the Ljosalfar.
