Why is Babylon a Top Tier nation?

Well first of all, I do use trebuchets and siege units in general to take cities. I don't see why anyone wouldn't use them. And I do think that the turtle ship is even stronger than England's ship of the line. Of course the fatal flaw is that it can't enter deep water. But I do agree that the UU and UB for Babylon are not that big of a deal.

I stopped using siege units alltogether until I got cannons. And even then, I mostly wait for Artillery. In my oppinion, they are to slow... The problem is, that a bunch of Comps / Xbows can do the same then a siege unit, without the problems (setup time).

Seige units can do good damage to cities when walls and castles no longer let crossbows and composites do good damage to cities.

Babylon would certainly give you an amazingly quick science victory if you built the Great Library & Oracle, then Garden & National Epic that would generate 4 Great Scientist Points per turn. Has anyone tried this?

I haven't tried that strategy but I knew that it existed. That strategy does seem that it will make you get a good science lead early.

I did it with the GL on Emperor (without Oracle though) and I was at least 16 techs ahead of every AI at the end of the game, except one.

But why Oracle?

A free policy can't be bad right?

When considering the fact that he's probably in the tech lead (probably at least 2-3 by that point), he has plenty of free time to wonder-whore as they unlock.

A couple of questions though,

1) What is the "latest patch" and what is the "overflow limit"?

2) I see that you're a mod...I'm brand new here, so could you please tell me how I can create a signature for my posts?

Thanks for the help

#1 Specially that was the late October 2014 patch. Steam will by default keep you up to date.
Overflow limit is higher of current tech being researched and 5 times your current science rate.

#2 Easiest way as My Account : Edit Signature

While Babylon is top tier for SV, they may play any style and will being first in science.

It's because of the fast scientists. If you tech universities early and put specialists in every science slot in every city for the duration of the game, you should easily be the first one to a tech of your choice in the late game. Being able to bulb scientists and be the first to bombers, nukes, stealth, or even arties if you want an earlier war means that you should quite easily dominate the map. Fighting rifles and triplanes with infantry and bombers is delicious.

I think the question we're all stepping around here is, if one wants to play a peaceful game, focusing almost entirely on Science and Economy, and then once the chance arrives, choose Autocracy and bowl over everyone else with nukes, XCOMs and GDRs while they're still leagues away from getting them, is Babylon the best choice? Or Korea? Or someone else?

Babylon, Korea and Poland would all do this handily. But then you'd find out that you could have juts bought your spaceship when choosing Freedom with 2 free policies and won ages ago.

Babylon is very good for the early science. You basically get double science than everyone else at start of the game, so you can basically do anything you want.

Babylon is also a very defensive Civ for early game, it stops other AIs or players rushing Babylon because of its ridiculous walls. The Bowmen for Babylon is probably the worst side for this civ, although it can give an extra defense if you know, Huns come along or something, the reason Bowmen isnt that great is because Babylon can obsolete it VERY quickly thanks to its technology.

Furthermore, not only does Babylon have the early science lead, it also has a late science lead because it can stack up Great Scientists with its 50% extra bonus it gets to producing Great Scientists. Meaning Babylon is going to get a TON. And at the end game they can bulb all of those scientists to get to tecnologies at very early turns. So hey, you have Infantry? Well lets give Babylon Stealth Bombers with its Great Scientist production.

Its why Babylon is very suited for Tradition. Its very capable and ALL their bonuses are good but mainly the free Great scientist at Writing and the 50% production of Great Scientists. It makes Babylon unbeatable in Science, which is really important.

Oh, of course, but this is about the journey, not the destination.

You have to be careful with spaceship parts during warfare because enemy units could easily capture them and destroy them if left outside your cities unprotected.

If you get a 3rd tier freedom social policy, you can speed up space ship part purchasesb by mmaking enough gold and ppaying enough gold because their parts are expensive.

Um, the only way you CAN buy space ship parts is with the 3rd tier Freedom Tenet. There's no "speeding up" about it.

IMO they are the #1 civ in the game. Let's see here. Double everyone's science at the start, archers that are practically composites and impenetrable walls.. Yeah, free win mode.
