What's the largest city you grew?

I've looked at this thread and I've seen some pretty impressive stuff. So I've started a new game (Askia, Settler, Archapelago) with only one city to see how high I can grow it. I'll be posting a thread in the Stories forum about it in the next few days, we'll see how it goes!

i'm looking forward to this

You can have up to I think a 49-size city (IIRC) considering 35 workable tiles and a few more specialist slots. After that it's unemployed citizens.

I really think unemployed citizens should get boosted to +2 production. Adds more strategy - if one of your flatland cities needs some emergency production, pull a few guys off the TPs.

I just tried and it's 52 size city before unemployment.

Late game the unemployed do receive +2 production and if you go down rationalism policy route you can also get +2 Science from each unemployed citizen!

curently 78 and still growing :)

maybe will post a screenshot soon

That is awesome - Did you use a mod or builder of some sort?

Save_Ferris - I took a look at your thread, it's very interesting, but IMO unless you have an archipelago start position with fish you could have a food struggle on your hands!
You need fish and the colossos to be able to financially sustain being allied with all those proposed maritime city states. I personally don't think you could possibly have the finances with just one city.

Good Luck.

I thought this was good - obviously not!

Yeah, I probably should have changed some stuff. But spoiler alert- I'm at 1000 BC (turn 200) with 1 million people.

Darn it, made a mistake on my Completely Bananas run through. Naively thought bananas plantations on hills gave same food as plains - like the raw bananas - I only choose hills for aesthetics. This is going to cost me at least 20 citizens.

Anyone good enough to edit a save game to change it for me?

PS who needs maritime states.

i got 35 with paris, continents prince. The start was basically a two rivers crossing, i had in range both FPs and river Grassland, i had also sugar but unfortunately there were a few deserts and coast tiles
I was playing with TBC pre march patch, which basically had aqueduct, +1 food with granary etc.

Just got up to 43 playing a Huge map.... and I thought 43 was a lot hahha look at those above me. I have the urge to beat that now hehe.

Largest City: 49
Turn 2046

I'm one turn from building the Utopia Project. Have the last piece of my spaceship sitting in my capital and I've just won a Diplomatic Victory.

Quick, King, Standard, Earth.

Well the maximum (theoretically) is

Total Food from Tiles - Total # of worked tiles (because unemployed only take 1 food with Civil Society)

assuming all 36 tiles worked... and all Grassland/Floodplain that's 36*4-36=108
Then add the output of the city center
2
+2 Granary
+2 Watermill
+5 Hospital
+2 Landed Elite
=
13

for a total of 121 pop.
for Aztecs that's 144

and that's with no Maritimes or Special tiles (+1 for Fish, +2 Wheat, Banana)

So for mass Banana, Aztecs, and 10 CS (giving 4 food each)
6*36+40+13=269
+15%=309
-36=273

So 273 is the max in an unmodded civ. (the ability to reach that level by 2050 is something different)
