Great Diplomat Mod

thank you! this is very interesting. and why have spies no slots in the ancient era?

I couldn't find any appropriate building. The first two buildings that grant Spy slots are the Town Watch (available at Monarchy) and the Courthouse (available at Code of Laws). Spy specialists and Spy units don't have to be connected, but they happen to appear at close places.

Maybe give the national courier system 1 spy slot or - if you can add a building - make something like a local "courier" building. Egypts (~1000 b.c.) also used spies to find more slaves from different tribes. The idea of the courier is the most obvious for espionage, which is neutral enough to be used worldwide and it has some good examples (Frumentarii, Agentes in rebus or the Greek intelligence community).

Ancient Egypt had writing by 1000 BC, so they were Classical, not Ancient. :)

For civ definition, yes :)
The thing is, you got the free specialist buildings but no spy slot who can use it. If you want to focus on great spies you can't do anything

I thing specialist stacker by platy should be marged also because in lower resolution new specialist great diplomat causes troubles in city screen.

Not necessary, I've already fixed this problem, it will be up in next revision, probably later today.

For me it is bad news I had hope that you will merge that stacker and make bug version of it because we want to have it in C2C. It will be a lot easier to merge it from and.

Wait, what? You want US to do the hard work of merging in the specialist stacker, so you can simply lift the code from us?

I understand sharing code and resources, but it's another thing entirely to shift the work to another project. Its not my job to fix C2C bugs.

I went looking through my mods collection and I found two artworks that we could use for the Envoy. The first is the Flagbearer from Fall from Heaven 2:

The second is the Master Tobacconist from Colonization, by way of the Tax Collector in Realism Invictus:

Which do you think would work better? I'm leaning towards the second one.

Vokarya, your new Envoy should replace both the old era and modern era ones? Because I've noticed only now that the modern era one has an ugly twisted arm. So, if you're going to use the one up above only for eras up to industrial, can you also fix that kind of broken arm of the modern era envoy? If not, replacing the envoy with the new artwork is ok to me.

Forgive Nimek, English is not his native tongue. I really don't think it come across how he meant. Or realized either.

I took a look, and usually weird art like that is a symptom of mismatched NIF and KFM files. I tried some other KFMs and I could not get anything to work. What I am going to do is use the new Envoy as general art, followed by creating the Ambassador unit to appear at Telegraph. It upgrades the Envoy and has no other requirements, so the Envoy will practically disappear at that point, meaning there is no need for a modern Envoy art.

what does the envoy do what a spy couldn`t do better? I think the envoy unit is useless.

Err... I think there are a few differences:
-envoy cannot be twarted like a spy
-envoy is always succesfull while spy may be not

I think :)

Sogroon is right. Also an envoy requires open borders but stealing plans costs money and not espionage points. I also plan to add a couple of other features, but we'll see.

ok. But the spy promotions allow a success rate of 100%. it's easy to level him up with small jobs like sabotage or spreading culture. thwarting chance is negligible, because the spy is cheap to produce.
The only advantage is the gold cost, if you have a low espionage outcome.
Under this viewpoint, additional features might be necessary ;). Right now, the envoy has only minor uses.
