Its VERY hard to get one set up on huge maps xD

It's turn 365 and it still haven't been established so i'm seeking out the contacts on purpose so I can give it a spin. They need to bring back " contacts" in trade from civ 3 for huge maps <_< I have pretty much explored all of the oceans clean and now trying to get units inland for those land locked civs.

Its a friggin major undertaking.

13 major civs and 18 city states contacted so far.

The civs are the only ones that matter, not the city states. I thought city states counted, but in my first game I founded it, and then a few turns later I met Kiev.

Ahh thank you.. then i think I only have 3 major civs left to find.

I hadn't thought of this before. But, YIKES!, it sounds like a pain in the butt. Does it increase the amount of time it takes to get good trade routes going? I imagine that might be an issue too....

Ok I think I managed to figure out who the last civ is, it's probably the shoshone. How I gleaned this is from victory progression shows that hiawatha owns that unmet capital and Wakshakie i think that's a shoshone name. Launching my cavalry on a long trek to find them.

I just realized how hard it is on the huge maps to find everyone and I was using 13 Civs. However when I knew there was one to locate; it was the AI that announced that all the Civs were located and the WC would start in 45 turns and the finding Civ was the host.

I enjoy the large maps but it sure does affect the development of the WC.

I managed to track down the last major civ, i'm on the verge of meeting with shoshone.

one of my expeditionary cavalry forces just met Brussels and he spotted an wandering shoshone caravan. Finally found location of his city, its somewhere between Delhi/Venice. Going to be making contact super soon XD Then finallyworld congress will go up then I shall start pissing hiawatha off with resolutions.

I would think getting 2 scouts early and explore would be critical on huge maps.

Actually i have 3-5 scouts exploring early on, but it isn't always possible to explore all of main continent that you're on.

Reason?

Last but huge barbarian holdouts.

Wars with Civs.

Terrains blocking you.

And times where you need optics to continue exploring but cannot because the scouts is from when you was pre-optics, they need friendly territory to update. :p

Important news guys.

If world congress is formed so late in the game, it will last for just one turn before being formed into UN and you won't even get to have fun as host despite your hard work in finding contacts with all major civs. -.-

boo. boo.

Yes, but 2 scouts early and aggressive before you are closed off or blocked, and then build scouts/units later where you can send them off around and across. That also mean temporary open borders and no auto anything, I would think.

It was just simply one of those games where super early explore won't happen.

Not when I was taking over brazil with Hiawatha blocking everything else east. I dow'd hiawatha to stop his cancer from settling right next to my capital. Killed the unescorted settler and we stayed at war for next thousand years.

Which had teh side consequence of putting an damp on exploration towards the east!

Shoshone and his wartorn city was completely surrounded by iroquois so it took me LONG while to get cavalries mounted up and sent across the ocean and poked in and out until I found the shoshone's caravan.

And with it was a line to shoshone's last city.

Which brings me to a realization.

If someone really hates world congress/united nations they can dow someone and make sure he have one last city then trap him inside you forever while never granting him open borders and not granting anyone else open borders and you can basically prevent world congress from happening.. ever until late late late late into the game maybe with almost all the advances researched.

edit: Frankly u know what? I'm really tired of hiawatha, he showed up in last 10 games I had for civ5. I will remove him from my game and i'll have fun again. Tired of eternal wars against him and I see that he's generating 382 tourism is last straw :p

I was on my own continent until I researched Compass, sailed west to find one Civ who then unlocked World Congress. After talking to that Civ came the diplomacy screens for every other Civ in the game, without me being anywhere near their cities. I thought this was kind of cool. They were all waiting for me!

That does sound like an unfortunately geopolitical situation. I know what you mean about Iroquois, I was tempted a couple times to remove Greece but I do like the challenge. Instead, if I'm next to Greece, Aztecs or Babylon in a Deity game, that's a reroll (not that it matters much).
